"Well, Mrs. Beck will show you around the mansion if you're not too tired," Jared explained calmly.
He needed to get Skai away, to deal with this unexpected development.
Sensing his unease, Skai frowned. "And you?" she pressed, her lips pursed in a hesitant line.
A playful glint entered Jared's eyes as he offered a small smile. "I'll be with you as soon as I finish up some tasks that require my immediate attention."
Skai felt a pang of disappointment, but she nodded in understanding. "Alright," she conceded.
"Stephen, please lead Ms. Skai back to the mansion."
"Yes sir," Stephen replied and bowed curtly before gesturing towards the path that led back to the mansion with a gloved hand.
As Skai followed Stephen away, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss. Jared's sudden need for privacy, the hushed conversation with Stephen – it all felt shrouded in secrecy.
