CHAPTER 63
The way Jared's eyes twinkled, Skai knew he was having fun at her expense but before she could speak, the sound of footsteps approaching the hallway broke the intimate tension surrounding them.
Mrs. Beck reappeared with a small basket clutched in her hands.
"My apologies for the delay, Ms. Skai," she said, her eyes flitting between Skai and Jared. "I believe I have everything you need now."
Skai cleared her throat, forcing her gaze away from Jared. "Thank you, Mrs. Beck," she managed, hoping Mrs. Beck wouldn't catch on to the hint of breathlessness in her voice.
"Then perhaps," Jared interjected, his voice smooth as silk, "I should leave you two ladies to your… bathtime preparations."
He winked at Skai, a gesture that sent a blush creeping up her neck. With a final lingering look, he turned and strode out of the room, leaving Skai feeling both flustered and strangely exhilarated.
