CHAPTER 6

When they arrived at the restaurant like she wanted, Skai bid Ethan goodbye. Once his car had driven off, she took a deep breath as she approached the entrance of the elegant restaurant.

The day had begun in a not-so-good manner, and right now she looked forward to a pleasant evening, hoping to escape the painful memories that still lingered in her heart with a good meal and sleep.

But fate seemed determined to test her resilience.

As the grand doors swung open, they revealed her ex-boyfriend, Craig, and his girlfriend, Zoe—the very nemesis who had caused her so much pain.

Craig's eyes widened in surprise, but as soon as it happened, a glimmer of smug satisfaction shone in them as his lips curled upward, a wicked smirk adorning them.

Darting his eyes briefly to his girlfriend, he uttered calmly, "Look whom the wicked east wind blew in."

Craig's eyes narrowed as he looked Skai up and down. "Well, well, if it isn't Skai. Still trying to find someone to fill the void I left? You were always so desperate for attention."

Zoe smirked and chimed in with a mocking tone. "Oh, don't mind her, Craig. Skai always had a flair for the dramatic. Remember that time she made a fool of herself at Steve's party?" he bobbed his head up and down. "Yeah, she's desperate for attention, as always."

Skai felt a surge of anger rising within her, but she refused to let it consume her. She rolled her eyes at the duo and took a step forward when Craig's voice rang out.

"You know, for a girl who claimed to be pure, you sure were whoring yourself out last night on the dance floor."

She halted, clenched her fist and turned her head to the side to face them.

"Who were you dancing with last night? Some desperate man who took pity on you because it is the anniversary of our well-deserved end to a boring relationship?"

"I wouldn't be surprised" Zoe chuckled with less enthusiasm. "Skai was a true attention seeker," Zoe chimed in, her voice dripping with disdain.

She turned fully to face Skai, her smug smile spilling into her eyes. "No wonder he dumped you. You're nothing but a lowly whore. I am glad he saw it early and came to me."

Skai's heart clenched, anger and humiliation warring within her. But she refused to be belittled any longer.

"If he hadn't had his head buried between your whorish ghetto, he would have realized it was my birthday. But no, how can a heartless jerk recall that when he specifically broke up on his girlfriend's birthday? What an ass."

She stood tall, her eyes blazing with fiery determination and her voice calm yet filled with conviction.

"You're just jealous," Zoe snapped and folded her arms.

Skai scoffed, shaking her head in disbelief. "I can't believe this. I'm going in."

The black limousine slowly idled through the bustling city streets; its owner, a powerful man, was dressed in a black tuxedo, complete with a crisp white shirt and a black silk bow tie.

His long, lean frame was relaxed in the plush leather seats of the black limousine, one arm casually draped over the back of the seat.

His eyes were fixed on his work schedule on his iPad running his finger gently over the smooth and sleek surface as though it were an extension of his own hand.

To his side, his personal assistant eagerly relayed the details of his upcoming business meeting, but it was as though he wasn't even there.

"Sir, Mrs. Beck asked that I remind you to take your medicines. It is already time for your meds."

Sluggishly he peeled his gaze from the screen of his iPad and looked at his chauffeur through the mirror. "She knows how to worry as hell," the chauffeur commented. "I believe she does an excellent job."

A small scoff resounded from beside the man whose piercing blue eyes were now fixed on the world outside, but he seemed uninterested in the passing scenes.

His long, sleek silver hair fell in delicate waves around his face, framing his chiselled features.

Despite his obvious wealth and sophistication, there was an air of danger about him, a subtle hint that he was not to be trifled with.

As the limousine glided through the streets, he remained motionless, watching the world drift by with an expression of dispassionate indifference until something caught his eye.

His head turned sharply towards the window, his eyes narrowing slightly as the bright cityscape passed by in a blur.

Suddenly his eyes turned red and then reverted as a strong pull tugged at his heart.

But most importantly, the thudding of a human heart beating as fast as a mere in a race caught track of his super hearing.

The colour of his eyes turned once more. He gazed in the direction as his vision turned red.

"Stop the car."

At the same time, Skai who had wanted to ignore them and get into the store to get her meal, was prevented by the two scums.

"Ah! You pushed me," Zoe cried out, clutching her stomach.

Skai's brows lifted quizzically and then pursed as she placed a hand on her waist. "Your acting skills are poor. I didn't even come close to you."

"Liar! You got jealous of me and pushed me on your way in," Zoe proclaimed in a much louder voice.

"Yeah like hell that would make sense given you two were here waiting for what?" Skai snapped.

She was tired of them harassing her life but just as she thought they'd have a bit of sense, Craig spoke up, "Apologize you lying bitch or I will make you."

A dark glint flashed in Skai's eyes as something stirred inside her. Earlier on she had wanted to ignore them since they were not worth the bubbling adrenaline but now, Zoe was asking for it.

"You see, it is amusing how you both seem to revel in my shortcomings. But let's not forget, Craig, it was your betrayal and lack of integrity that led to our breakup. And Zoe," she scoffed, pointing at her, "your malicious comments only reflect your own insecurities."

Craig's face flushed with anger and when he spoke, his voice was laced with venom. "You were never enough for me, Skai. I found someone who knew how to satisfy my needs, unlike you."
