It felt like a big slap to Damien when Skai mentioned his feelings.
Damien blinked. Thinking back now, he could not tell when and how he had confessed his feelings to her. Instead, he had been hell-bent on claiming her as his mate.
'Mate.'
The scared word and person he had always wanted but when he didn't get her, he resigned his fate to not having one.
Who would have thought the reason was because his frail human mate wasn't born yet?
"Damien." Skai's soft voice was carried to his ears by the little breeze blowing in the hallway. "Tell me or don't you have feelings for me? Are you only chasing me because of the matebond?"
He blinked and shook his head. "No. That's not true. I am not after you just because of that."
Even though he said so, Skai found it hard to believe. "It seems that way."
At this point, Damien knew he had to correct things, beginning from this wrong notion.
