Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Blended World

The Amalgamation, that's what it's commonly known as, the day everything changed, when fantasy bled into reality, and the history of worlds once separated collided. That day was just like any other at first. Clear skies and a gentle breeze blowing through the summer day, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. That is, until the ground suddenly started to rumble and the blue sky became dyed in crimson light. When the sky was covered in red, disasters sprung up and covered the globe. Typhoons, earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, they all appeared at the same time. It was truly frightening for those of the time, not knowing what was going on. What was even more perplexing, was the fact that all of these disasters only lasted for 20 minutes. However, this was not the end of the changes to come in the world.

All those disasters that were felt were just a precursor to the real change that was to occur. Onlookers near the areas saw it, the rise of new continents in the world. No, perhaps rise is not an accurate way to explain it. On that day, the Earth had doubled in size, not in a figurative sense, but in a literal sense. The expansion of the Earth seemed like it was meant to accommodate the appearance of two new continents on the planet. Funny enough though, this change did not affect the rest of the universe or the natural functions of the world like one would think, however the way of life for everyone did change. How could it not? After all, the nightmare really began after the natural disasters had subsided.

Coming along with the continents was a flood of monsters. Black gates appeared in the skies all around the world, swirling like a vortex. These gates allowed the monsters to come forth, with the vanguard being monsters that looked like giant red wolves. These wolves stood at around 2 metres tall in height and had fur that seemed as sharp as knives. Most of humanity didn't stand a chance, they were just food for the beasts to tear apart.

The influx of wolf monsters was followed by larger beasts such as those that resembled the dinosaurs and smaller monsters such as goblins and gnomes. Within the span of half a day, the population of the original inhabitants of Earth were cut in half, the African continent was sunk to the bottom of the sea, and monsters now roamed all corners of the globe.

However, this despair did not last forever, as hope came in the form of a gift to humanity. This gift was the power of magic. Humans were able to harness magic by awakening to it and drawing power from within. With this newly discovered ability, the people fought back against the monsters to reclaim their planet. Luckily, the inhabitants of Earth were not alone in this endeavour, as there were those that came with the merging of worlds that stood beside them, beings that were once thought to only be found in the pages of fiction. The elves and beastmen were especially helpful in subduing the threats and aided in securing the safety of the common folk. After years of fighting, eventually the threat was pushed back to a manageable point and society could begin to rebuild in the aftermath.

When the world changed, so did the structure of society and the way of life. Just because the initial campaign to drive off the monsters was successful, does not mean that they were gone for good. The gates that they appeared from still existed all over the world and more kept appearing, necessitating the establishment of groups that would stand against such dangers. This led to a new superpower known as guilds. At first, these were guilds in name only, as they had no regulations, they were simply a gathering point for thugs and other like minded individuals to gather and trample on the weak. They were too powerful for governments to do anything about, leading them to go ignored despite all the trouble they caused with the abuse of their abilities. As such, the disparity between those gifted with new powers and those that were not grew.

As the years passed by, individuals tired of living under the thumb of those abusing the powers they were gifted with rallied together to fight for their freedom. Following the skirmishes all around the world, these lawless guilds were driven underground and in their place, proper guilds that would work with the governments of the world were formed.

In the years that followed, society was able to stabilize and adjust to the new world order. Everything was almost like it was before the world had changed. There were still a few differences to the way the world once was. For starters, people now had the ability to wield powers that were once locked away in the world of imagination and it had become part of everyday life. Beings once found only in legends were now walking the streets as if it were normal. New technology that was thought to be centuries in the future and seen only in stories were now integrated into the lives of common folk. Guilds were now recognized by and worked with governments. They also served as places where individuals could gather and become adventurers. Seeing as how the world had changed so much, and now housed things once thought to be impossible anywhere other than in fiction, the government chose to name those who worked in guilds as "adventurers," as a reference to the fantasy stories that told of how individuals would travel to other worlds and join guilds before setting off. These adventurers would be issued an ID by the government as well. Society would come to worship those with these fantastical abilities and strove to become recognized as first class adventurers.

Of course, the future recruits for these guilds would require education and support if they were to achieve their dreams. Those that were lucky enough to awaken abilities were able to hone their skills at various schools around the world. These schools guided students in various fields of study, from magic and training in utilizing weapons, to understanding the history of how the new world came to be and everything in between. The most famous of these schools, was one that was established by the combined efforts of all governments and guilds in the world, built on an artificial island the size of a small city, was known as….

Standing in front of the 3 metre tall gates that led into the main academy building was 19 year old Kaito Kobayashi, a 178 centimetre tall young man with short black hair. He was in an unzipped black hoodie, with a plain white T-Shirt, black pants, and running shoes. Adorning his neck, a necklace in the shape of a silver arrowhead, lined with gold flame like accents, and embedded at its core was an emerald green jewel.
