Chapter 47 - Combining Skills 1/4

I tapped Cythistia's shoulder, garnering her attention.

"Hmm? What is it?" She asked.

I then wrote, 'I'm going to be testing some skill combinations, just wanted to make sure everyone knew what I was doing, just in case one of them was frightened by them.'

She nodded, understanding what I meant and then said to everyone, "Just to let everyone know, Traytora's going to test some skills now so don't be alarmed okay."

"Yes, Lady Cythistia!" The rangers shouted in unison.

With that, I think I'm all clear to try out some skill combos. Next question is which ones to I try out together?

I think if I do this methodically, I'll be able to go through all of these quickly and without repeating any combinations. So, if I want more bloodline skills, I'll start by trying out combining them with some of the other skills.

Combining [Bloodline Suppression] with anything doesn't seem like it'll even give me anything so I'll just move straight onto [Bloodline Aura], that's a good place to start.

Let's see, uhh... Ah fuck it, I'll just go in order from top to bottom.

[Devour] might actually be useful with both [Bloodline Suppression] and [Bloodline Aura] but I don't exactly have anyone to use it on, and even if I did, it wouldn't be very effective. [Dash] also wouldn't result in anything either. Now [Claw Slash] on the other hand sounds like it would work nicely. Let's give it a go.

I summon a portion of my aura and activate [Claw Slash], imbuing the skill with my aura. Several red crescented blade like slashes appeared and immediately and flew into the air.

*Woosh*

The sound of air being cut could be heard as the slash tore through the air, letting of a small breeze. I saw a few of the rangers look my way with an inquisitive gaze but they soon looked away.

[Ding!]

[You have learned [Aura Slash]. Due to no suitable location being available, this skill shall be temporarily hidden in the [Status Menu]. This skill can still be used.]

'Huh? No suitable location? What does that mean?' I looked back at my skill section to see why it said 'no suitable location' and I have to say, I kind of agree. It wouldn't really fit in as a [Bloodline] skill as it requires a [Physical] to perform, but it's also not really a physical attack either. I'm sure it'll become visible in the future.

Next skill is [Poison Bite]? How will that work? Will it just be a bite made up of my aura and lose the poison? Based on the previous test, it seems to lose certain properties when combining it with my aura. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

'Hmm… Wait… My aura itself doesn't seem to have any specific element infused with it, so maybe if I combine it with one of the elements that I have an affinity with, it will gain elemental properties.'

'But, how exactly do I go about actually doing that? Do I just release my aura and focus on an element? Is that how it works? Whatever, let's just give it a try.'

I summon my aura once again, and this time I concentrate on the element of earth. I didn't want to try using the other elements which I have a stronger affinity with in case something goes wrong.

I channel the power of earth and try infusing it with my aura. It seems to be going well until it fails and the fusion collapses, giving me a backlash.

I flinch backwards and nearly fell off of Cythistia but was able to grab hold of her, stabilising myself.

"You okay back there?" She asked worriedly.

"Mhmm." I hummed positively in response before going back to attempting to combine my Aura and the elements that I wield.

'Why did they fail to combine in the first place?' I pondered the possible reasons this was the case.

'Was it because I tried to do it too quickly? Or was I too forceful?' Many theories on why that happened raced through my mind.

Doing nothing but thinking won't get me anywhere, so I might as well just keep on testing. Starting with trying to combine elements and auras together again.

I decided that I should use my affinity for water instead as I believe there should be less of a violent backlash in the event that it fails. Activating my aura once more I focus on my [Water] affinity, and slowly infuse it into my Aura.

It took a few minutes and I had to stop for a few seconds and steady my breathing a few times, just in case, and I managed to make it work.

I waited for a while, but nothing came up to tell me I'd made a new skill. 'Maybe I need to do this with at least two or three elements then? If so, which element do I choose next? So, what if the [Earth] element failed because I didn't have a high enough affinity with it? If that's the case, then maybe trying with something like my [Fire] affinity might be easier? But I don't want to endanger anyone when I do it though.'

"Something wrong?" I heard Cythistia ask, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I replied in flaming runes, 'Yeah, just thinking about something.'

"Well, it seemed like you were worried about something, you can talk to me about it you know?" She said in an uplifting and cheery tone with a smile on her face.

'Maybe... Maybe I should try love again?' I thought as her genuine love and care slowly started to chip away at my walls. I smiled slightly and explained to her about what exactly I was doing and what I wanted to do next, which was create multiple elemental auras.

She understood what I was trying to do and said that I could try what I wanted to do later when we either stopped for lunch or at dusk when we set up camp for the night. I was fine with either one as it didn't matter, so long as I could achieve my goal, which was primarily just filling up my [Bloodline] skills. It just felt so empty and I wanted it to be not that.

Moving away from making some sort of elemental aura type of skill, I looked back at the [Poisonous Bite] skill and decide to skip it. All of the physical skill after that didn't seem like they would work well with my aura so I'll skip those also.

'Which means that it's time to move onto magical abilities.' I was actually kind of excited to test these ones out as I've always been fascinated with magic since I was a child.

Though... Now that I'm looking at them, what spells would even be affected by the power of an aura? What would they even gain? This... Might be more disappointing than I thought.
