Sweat flowed down Lily's forehead as she shoved chunks of firewood in the stove. Feeling the heat of the fire in her cheeks, she slammed the stove door shut. She then carefully adjusted the vents to regulate the air intake, ensuring that the fire burned at an adequate strength.

With the help of fellow chemists, Philip filled the round pot with crude alcohol and carefully placed it on top of the stove. And then, he carefully positioned the condenser tower on the table next to the stove, pouring water in it to cool down the coiled copper tube. He secured an onion shaped cap to the pot's lid, sealing it, and connected the tube that comes from the cap's head to the ones that goes to the condenser.
