Chapter 4 - Adventurer's Guild

"In that case, how about you enroll in the Adventurer's Guild first? The Adventurer's Guild in Arlo City offers free lodging for its members. Well, you have to pay for it with guild points, but it's kind of free since you'll get those points every time you do a mission. Then, they also offer many missions that can be done in exchange for money. The cost of living in this city is quite expensive. So, joining them can definitely help you in many ways."

"Ah, please don't think I'm patronizing you by offering all this! In addition to the things I mentioned, the Adventurer's Guild is the best place to train when the academy is on vacation. Most of the academy's students are also members of the Adventurer's Guild. Even I am a part of the guild."

Elijah was listening to the catgirl's explanation when a mission information suddenly appeared before him.

"...I don't think the system will give me any rewards," Elijah muttered in a small voice.

[The rewards that System displays are rewards that User will definitely get if the mission is successful. For uncertain rewards, System will not display them, so the User will get a surprise once in a while.]

Elijah ignored the system's explanation and thanked the cat girl for suggesting him to enter the Adventurer's Guild. The girl generously gave Elijah instructions on how to reach the Adventurer's Guild in Arlo City. And thanks to that clue, it didn't take long for Elijah to find the Adventurer's Guild that the girl was referring to.

Elijah stopped in front of a large building with a sign of swords, arrows, and magic books on the front, then opened the wooden door and entered the place the cat girl was referring to.

As soon as Elijah entered the place, the smell of alcohol and the sound of people talking to each other filled the spacious place. Just like outside, Elijah could see that the Adventurer's Guild was also filled with people of various races. Men and women, all united and relaxing in the place.

When Elijah turned his head towards the left, he could see a bulletin board near the stairs filled with mission requests and surrounded by several adventurers. While if Elijah turned his head to the right, he could see a bar counter that provided food and drinks for the adventurers.

Elijah took a straight path to approach the counter room with a large 'Help Center' written on it. A woman with glasses was busy writing something in her book when Elijah approached her. Only when Elijah was close enough did the woman finally raise her head to look at Elijah and show a friendly smile.

"Welcome to the Adventurer's Guild. Is there anything I can help you with?"

"I would like to apply to become a member of the Adventurer's Guild."

"Very well. Please fill out this form first, Sir."

The form was almost the same as the form he had to fill out to enroll in the Sword and Sorcery Academy, where Elijah had to list his skills and his preferred method of attack. Elijah had written down magic for the academy because he thought learning magic would be more effective in an official place like the academy. But for the Adventurer's Guild, Elijah wrote down sword calmly because he believed he should master both different fields equally.

"You are a swordsman, is that correct?"

"That is correct."

The woman with glasses nodded, then stamped the form Elijah had previously filled out.

"Then, let me say it one more time. Welcome to the Adventurer's Guild, Mr. Elijah. This guild provides dormitory rooms, food, and drinks that can be paid for using guild points. Earning guild points can be done by doing various missions available in the guild. Where the more difficult the mission, the greater the guild points earned. Of course, each adventurer will still get monetary rewards according to the amount listed in each mission. However, for A-class missions and above, only S-class adventurers can access them in the Adventurer's Guild Leader's room."

The woman was confident that Elijah understood her explanation, then continued her task of making Elijah his identification.

"Mr. Elijah, please check for any errors in the spelling of your name or other information."

The woman returned with a small necklace with a plate in the center, where the plate contained brief information regarding Elijah's name, race, and adventurer rank for the time being. New adventurers all started from rank F. The more Elijah completed missions in the Adventurer's Guild, the faster his chances of ranking up would be.

Elijah closed the notification that the system gave him, then returned to talking to the woman with glasses in front of him.

"...There's nothing wrong. But if I may know, how many points does it take to get a room in the Adventurer's Guild?"

Elijah wanted to save as much money as possible, especially when he had not yet been officially accepted into the Academy of Sword and Sorcery. It would be best if he could live in the Adventurer's Guild dormitory as soon as possible if the points he needed to live there were reasons for him to pursue.

"One guild point will be used for one night spent in a dormitory belonging to the Adventurer's Guild. But if you want to stay for a week, the Adventurer's Guild gives a special discount, so you only need to exchange five guild points for it."

"I understand, thank you."

Elijah thanked the woman, then rushed to the task bulletin to look for tasks that could earn him guild points. Simple tasks like delivering goods or finding lost items were only rewarded with at most two guild points and a few silver coins. Elijah thought for a long time before taking on the mission of killing the wolves that disturbed the garden for ten gold coins.

Whereas previously, Elijah had determined not to fight enemies stronger than him to prevent him from dying in vain. But to become strong quickly and secure his room in the Adventurer's Guild, Elijah had no other choice but to take such a dangerous risk.
