Chapter 17 - The First Practice Class

Elijah no longer avoided Damian, and their ordinary lives returned after that. So far, the academy had only taught Elijah the concept of magic and had not allowed anyone to try their magic. Elijah didn't protest much because the concept of magic made him understand more about his magic. But for those who had understood the basic of magic since they were little, the few days of indoor lessons were boring for them.

Special class students were mostly students who loved magic more than anything else. So after a week of indoor lessons, the special class finally started to protest massively and ended up getting their first practical lesson.

In the same arena where the previous one-on-one test was held, all the first-year special-class mages were gathered in one place. Coincidentally, first-year practice magic lessons coincided with the third-year special class students. So, a brilliant idea came up, which made the first-year students practice with the third-year students.

"Alright! The third-year homeroom teacher can't make it today. So I, the first-year homeroom teacher, will supervise you completely. This class will be a practice class. In other words, you will fight each other in this arena."

"The first-year students are in charge of reflecting the third-year students' attacks, while the third-year students are in charge of attacking the first-year students with your magic. Please keep in mind that third-year students can only use one type of magic in this lesson. Your opponent is a first-year student, so I consider this a leniency for the first-year student."

Anya said in front of everyone with excitement and got cheers from the third-year students. They probably thought this battle would be a one-sided victory for those who studied longer than the first-year students, even though they were only allowed to use one type of magic. But for Elijah, who could see their level and even peer at their strength with his eyes, the third-year students' magic ability was actually not much different from the first-year students.

Third-year students may be at levels 41 to 50 on average. But in the first year, they have Sofia, who is now at level 40. Sofia's magic abilities are also more diverse because she has unlimited access to magic books whose unit prices are so expensive. So, in terms of strength, the girl should not be far behind the third-year students.

Of course, most first-year special class students were probably only in the range of level 21 to 30. Even so, for Elijah, who was used to fighting someone stronger than himself, the task of just bouncing their attacks was not difficult, especially since their homeroom teacher had also emphasized that third-year students could only use one type of magic.

"But before fighting, I want the first-year students who don't know Magic Shield to approach me first. I realize that some first-year mages have not mastered the Magic shield, which is the main defense magic of mages. Therefore, I have asked the magic book section to provide some Magic Shield books, so that everyone can fight fairly."

This time, it was the first-year students' turn to get excited because of Anya's words. The Academy of Sword and Sorcery did have a special division whose job was to reproduce magic books with their abilities. But as a new student, Elijah did not expect them to be so generous as to give them magic books for free.

"This is a plus for the special class because you will be doing many dangerous missions in the future. Alright, get in line so I can share them with you one by one. Don't try to fool me, okay? I'm sure you already know that magic books don't disappear if someone already knows the magic in the book."

The first-year students queued up in an orderly manner, including Elijah, who didn't have Magic Shield yet. The book immediately disappeared when Elijah finished absorbing the knowledge in it. It's true. Since ordinary mages are not as agile as Elijah, who is an expert in physical skills, Magic Shield seems to be a must-have magic for mages.

Elijah had seen Damian use a magic shield before. But clearly, the Magic Shield will reflect any skill that is weaker than the level of the Magic Shield itself. Its function is almost similar to the Block skill in physical skills. However, Magic Shield had the advantage of being able to reflect magic attacks, while Block could only absorb some magic attacks.

"Alright. Now that everyone has a Magic Shield, I want the first-year students to pair up with the third-year students. The third-year students will attack using attack magic. Meanwhile, the first-year students will practice reflecting it using the Magic Shield."

"Teacher! Isn't the power of the third-year students' attack magic definitely stronger than the Magic shield of some of the first-year students? How can we break that magic if some of us have only just learned Magic Shield today?"

Someone from the first-year special class asked, but Anya just smiled to answer that question. Most first-year students might not be familiar with the nature of their homeroom teacher. But for those who already knew the woman, almost everyone admit that Anya was a sadistic magic teacher who would not hesitate to let her students get hurt if it was to make them stronger.

"Of course, they're stronger. Do you think I would let my students fight someone weaker, huh?"

Anya said it with a smile, but there wasn't any warmth in her words. The student who had previously asked immediately shut his mouth tightly. From the moment one agreed to enter the special class, one should have known that it would be filled with various dangers intentionally given based on helping the students become stronger than before.

"Alright! Then, you can pair up and practice from now on!"

Anya stepped back to let the third-year students take over while she sat on one of the benches in the arena. The woman observed the chaos below calmly. As long as no one was seriously injured from this exercise, then she would not move from that place until the practice learning time was finally over.
