Chapter 16 - The Chaos Brigade (4)

The eastern section of the city was sent into a panic

Out of the rest of the areas on Carisvile, this one was considered to be the safest next to the Vatican Castle. The reason was that it was the spot in which most of the soldier barracks as well as the knight headquarters were stationed. And every criminal around these parts would know better than to commit a crime in a place where knights could catch them in mere seconds

But they should understand that they're only able to enforce such order in this city due to one thing

Power...

Be it in numerical advantage, or combat experience, the knights were only able to keep peace around these areas, as well as other parts of the cities because they wielded the biggest stick. But what would happen if a threat far greater and deadlier than they were would suddenly appear?

The answer...is not so pretty...

Something that Captain Morgan, a knight of the holy order, saw firsthand as he quickly ran through the empty hallways of the barracks. The sounds of explosions, magic spells being cast, as well as the screams of his own men, began to assault his ears which made him click his tongue

"Shit! Shit! Shit! What the hell is even going on?! What is with tonight?! Everything is just a big lump of mess!"

This whole situation that was happening was just hectic. First there was a massive explosion that came out of nowhere, and before they knew it, there were psychos that began to emerge from the shadows and cause mayhem

And based on the limited information that the higher-ups have gathered so far, it seems that they had it the roughest...

"Gyahahaa! I need to see more blood!"

As he turned to the corner of the hallway, he came across a bald man with a massive tattoo on his head. His eyes were constantly twitching, and the knife that he had on hand was drenched in blood. Once he saw Morgan, he quickly pounced toward him like a wild animal

"Gyahahaha! Blood! Lemme see your blood, big man!"

Morgan quickly took out his sword which was already imbued with magic and sliced the man in two. He then spat on the fallen corpse before continuing to run...

"Shit..."

His gaze wandered to the window at his side. What he could see now was absolute anarchy. There were hundreds or even thousands of criminals and bandits that were kept captive around these parts, and now...they're somehow released into the wild and began to ravage everything they come in contact with

He and his comrades may have the advantage in experience, but they were drastically outnumbered. And considering the other problems that were happening on the other sides of the city, most of the forces that were being sent to help them were growing thin...

Once he saw a familiar face who was being overwhelmed by a bunch of criminals ganging up on him, he quickly jumped through the window and sliced down the savages who were around him.

"Hehe, you're getting sloppy there, old friend"

"Argh shut up...Thanks for that though, you saved my ass back there. Gaaah, bloody hell there's just too many of them"

"Yeah, I could tell. How the hell did these guys even walk out of their cages in the first place? Isn't the prisons here equipped with the fanciest magical encryption thingy that seals these fuckers in place?"

"Yeah, and apparently someone was able to disable those things simultaneously. Don't know how, but I'm grinding those bastards on watch when we're finished with this"

"You and me both. So what do we do now? Are there any new orders from the higher-ups?"

"There is, but it isn't good. They're basically telling us we're on our own until further notice"

"What?! Can't they see the situation here?! Even if this is the head HQ for the knights, if we get pinned down here without any help coming then we're screwed"

"That's precisely why they left us to bite the dust. Apparently, since there was more manpower on our side, they could try to fix the other problems going on in the city while we hold them off here. Gotta say though, I wanna give them a piece of my mind for basically ordering us to die"

"You got that right..."

Both of them continued to casually talk while cutting down hordes of angry mobs. But even if they make it look easy, the fact that there were still so many of them despite them creating a mountain of corpses, was quickly making them exhausted...

"Annoying little bastards...Gaaaah, and there I was, finally trying to make be a good father and attend my daughter's recital. Only for us to be met with this shit"

Morgan annoyingly muttered as he cast a spell and swung his sword which cut through dozens of bodies as if they were nothing more than butter...

"Speaking of Charlotte, where is she by the way? Is she safe?"

"Unlike me, my wife was actually blessed with a brain so they're probably safe in some shelter right now. Though with something like this on our hands, I'm having trouble resting easy. Take this!"

"Gugh..." The prisoner dropped dead to the ground once his heart was stabbed...

"Oh come on, stop acting so negative. We'll probably survive this just like we always do, and you'll continue to drink yourself to sleep and make your child fatherless despite actually having a father. Hahaha!"

"I swear to the gods, if your head isn't chopped off by the time this is over, I'll do the honors myself"

Both of them continued to argue while killing every prisoner they met. Though there were in a tough spot, both of these men were hardened veterans that have walked the battlefield at every moment of their lives. And they have learned how to laugh even in the face of death itself...

Or at least, that's what they thought so. Until they actually saw death itself...

It was at the form of a gigantic figure that was clad in ebony armor. Even from afar, they could tell that his equipment was top-class, and normally they'd consider people who equip themselves with such equipment were nothing but pansies who were trying to look cool

But this man, he was the real deal

He was cutting through every knight and mage that would cross paths with him. With the use of a gigantic black longsword that was the size of a human body...No...It couldn't even be described as a sword, it would be too much of an understatement. It was more of a massive sharp lump of steel that he would just swing around with the use of a hand

He had just waltzed into the battlefield, but he has already caught the attention of everyone who was fighting. With each corpse that he creates with his blade, everyone would stop what they were doing to look at the man as he continued to kill like clockwork...

It was if as time had stopped itself, and the only people who were moving were the armored man and his prey which was about to be slaughtered. And even as they prayed to their gods to not match them with this behemoth of a man, it seemed to be headed in their direction

"Morgan...be ready, this guy is gonna be a tough one"

"Yeah no need to tell me...So how do we deal with this fella? Do we do the old switcheroo or what?"

"No, I don't think something like that will work on him. What the about the one-two trick that we used to do back at that one campaign?..."

"Really? You think that'll work?"

"Probably not, but it's either that or we die"

"Well, I know what choice I'm picking!"

Morgan let out a war cry as he charged toward the armored man. He would mainly do it to intimidate his opponents, but right now he's only doing it to psych himself up and erase all signs of fear in his body...

He began to take a deep breath and activate his magic before jumping up high and bringing his sword down to the man. He didn't even seem fazed, and merely blocked it before adjusting his stance for a counterattack

Though he felt a bit humiliated, this was exactly how he envisioned things would go. So he activated the spell that he was building up in his mouth and spit out a thick fog that spread out to their surroundings

"...Interesting..."

Morgan heard a muffled voice which he assumed came from the armored man. It was as deep as the abyss and sent shivers down his spine. But he quickly placed his fears aside while he carefully observed his surroundings...

After a while, he finally noticed his partner who was moving on the smog and was closing in on him from behind. Morgan followed suit and launched his attack head-on. It was an attack from two directions, and each should be deadly enough to take someone like him down...

His comrade imbued a spell on his sword known as [Steel cutter], a level six spell that could enhance any sword to the point that it could slice through armor as if they were butter. And Morgan was using a spell known as [Flame blade]. It was also a level six spell that could manifest a raging inferno on their weapon that could easily melt flesh and bone...

But even in the face of this, the armored man doesn't seem fazed. And the moment both of them were finally in his striking range, he merely prepared his sword and met their attacks without any hesitation

He nimbly dodged both of their attacks with such astounding reflexes that both of them can't help but be admired. And once he began to direct his magical energy down on his sword, they knew that he was about to unleash a big one

And that was exactly what he did...

His sword began to glow an ebony shade and was manifesting an intense amount of mana. Once he swung his sword once, this energy spread out on an arc and absolutely demolished everything and anything that it contacted...

His comrade was disintegrated in the face of such power, and the part of the building that was standing behind him was sliced in half as if it was nothing. Morgan gritted his teeth and began to shout out a flurry of curses as he fell back

He was tightly holding his stomach as he knelt down on the ground. The attack had only grazed him, yet he had suffered such a lethal wound. Morgan looked at the armored man with contempt as he slowly walked towards him...

"Unfortunately, such paltry tricks are not enough to defeat me"

"Who..W-Who the hell are you?...Why are you doing this?!"

The armored man didn't respond. Instead, he kicked Morgan's sword who was lying beneath his feet towards him...

"I am not obligated to tell you that. If you want to know the answers you seek, then you're gonna have to prove yourself to me and earn them. Now stand up, and fight!"

"Grraaaaagh! You bastard!"

Morgan took his blade and charged at him wildly. He knew that it was pointless. He knew that he was no match for someone as powerful as him. Yet he still pushed himself forward, even if it was just a slim chance...

One in a hundred...

No, one in one thousand...

Then he would still take it

And as the gigantic sword of the armored man cleaved his body his half, he could only remember the innocent face of his daughter with a smile. His body then fell to the ground with a thud...

"He was a fine warrior"

The armored man muttered to himself as he looked at his surroundings. Most of them were still fazed at the sight that he just made, but soon all of them began to continue killing each other like wild animals...

"Well, I'm glad to see that you're enjoying yourself, good ser"

A woman muttered as she jumped down from a nearby building and slowly walked towards him. The first things he noticed were her long pointy ears and her blonde hair that was as bright as the sun. But this was a direct contrast to the black gothic clothes that she was wearing which made her look like a mourning widow

"Though I can't say I enjoy watching such petty theatrics from afar. Good grief, look at these animals running on themselves like a bunch of savages. I can't bear to watch it. But, If it's good for business then it's alright I suppose"

The armored man merely ignored her taunting as he picked up Morgan's sword from the ground

"How are things inside?"

"All done and accounted for. There are still a few persistent bugs who are resisting, but it's only a matter of time until their little HQ would completely collapse. And we could ransack this old relic of a city for what it's worth"

"Good...Continue to proceed as we've planned. I'm sure I need not remind you that failure on our part would cause the displeasure of our lord"

"You don't need to worry about that. No way in hell would I disappoint my most beloved business partner"

The woman chuckled as both of them continued to mow down rows of knights and mages that went after them...
