Chapter 19 - Mindless Reprisal

The Chaotic Monster Leader sensed the old man approaching in its direction. It proceeded to sense the latter's presence, then acknowledged after determining that the old man approaching its direction was the strongest one among everyone present. When the Chaotic Monster saw the repressed anger on the old man's face, it revealed a twisted grin with its white, jagged row of scary teeth on full display, looking like a monster straight out of a horror story.

As soon as the dignified and furious old man stood 3 meters away from the Chaotic Monster Leader, he poised himself to initiate his assault. Meanwhile, the Chaotic Monster Leader sneered and casually tossed the body of the impaled Silvia at him, causing the dignified old man to grit his teeth in exasperation, as he had no choice but to evade her body if he wants to initiate his attack properly.

Using the forward force he had built up in his legs, the dignified and furious old man finished conjuring a cone-shaped lance made out of earth and catapulted it directly at the head of the sinister Chaotic Monster Leader, which was a few meters away from him. Afterward, he kicked off the ground, leaving a foot-sized indentation mark in his wake, and he immediately shrunk the distance between him and the giant Chaotic Monster Leader. He held another cone-shaped lance, which was aimed precisely at the side of the giant Chaotic Monster Leader that looked twice his size.

Boom!

Just like that, an explosive battle abruptly began with that deadly attack from the dignified and furious old man.

At the same time.

Thud!

A figure flew threw the air and landed on the ground, making a loud dull sound.

"Ah…"

Cyril watched as Silvia's limp body slumped on the ground not far from him with a listless expression. In disbelief, he approached her and closely examined her condition. Her body was still oozing blood, staining the ground in red blood mixed with some black blood due to the poisonous energy that invaded her body from the Chaotic Monster Leader's claw.

Cyril gently picked up and held Silvia closely in his arms and watched her dying body, which was right in front of him, still in disbelief. However, the unnerving stench of blood wafting through his nostrils made him feel completely numb, and at the same time, it made him realize that the scene before him might actually be reality and not a dream as he had thought.

Unknowingly, warm tears started bubbling in his eyes, falling down his cheeks like a broken fountain. As the tears clouded his vision, he tried to stop it by wiping it with his free hand, but he realized that he could not stop the tears from falling down his face.

He couldn't hold back the sudden anguish he felt in his heart as he was overwhelmed by intense emotions that caused him to unable to stop his tears from pouring down from his eyes. He abruptly roar out loudly in his hoarse voice, causing his wrinkled face to contort. However, despite his loud, hoarse crying voice, no one could hear him, as his voice was drowned out by the screaming and shrilling voices of people who were mercilessly massacred by the group of Chaotic Wolves.

After crying for some period of time, he suddenly stopped crying and once again looked at the bloody appearance of Silvia, who was still in his arms bleeding out despite putting pressure on her chest. Gradually, he felt an endless rage boiling inside him. He felt something crumble inside of him, and that something slowly gave rise to an unstoppable intent to kill.

No matter whether the current scene before him was a nightmare or not, it didn't matter to him anymore. Right now, all he wanted to do was to kill the nightmare before him with his own hands! He wanted to kill the monster that had the audacity to not only hurt Silvia but also treat her body as though it was a piece of trash right in front of him! He wanted to mercilessly kill it and ruthlessly devour it for revenge!

Meanwhile.

On the other side.

The old man engaged the giant Chaotic Monster Leader the moment he evaded Silvia's body, which had been tossed at him by it. He and the Chaotic Monster Leader were both of the same strength, but he wasn't confident he could kill it within a short time. After all, the Chaotic Monsters were creatures that not only had monstrous bodies but also had higher vitality than humans. Furthermore, they were very violent and chaotic, hence their name.

Given that, it would take an exceedingly long time for him to kill the giant Chaotic Monster Leader by himself. There was also the possibility that he would be killed by it when he ran out of stamina during their battle.

However, he had to hang on for a while longer to buy time for reinforcements to arrive from South Stronghold's Main city. As soon as the spatial portal opened in the Edge City, although it was an unforeseen circumstance, the detection team at the Main City should have been alerted by it and most likely making their way to their location for the rescue.

With that prediction in mind, the dignified old man decided to stall for time with all his strength. If he could somehow defeat the Chaotic Monster Leader before the reinforcements arrived, that would be an optimum and conducive outcome that would guarantee the safety of most civilians.

If not, he could only make sure that the Chaotic Monster Leader doesn't divert its attention and join its minions to slaughter the civilians. In the event that were to happen, the consequences would be catastrophic because at that point, more people would die as he wouldn't be able to protect them all by himself.

At the back.

Cyril's expression suddenly turned crazy, as though he was in a trance of madness or a primal instinctual state, his face turning savage as time passed. He kept muttering incoherent words under his breath. At this point, he had placed Silvia's body on the edge of the placed and started moving by instinct, wobbling around the scene of horror filled with the dead bodies of unfortunate participants and spectators.

His expression was unusually serene and seemed devoid of life as he navigated his way through the dead bodies that littered the awakening venue. He subconsciously ignored the dead bodies of the humans and approached one of the dead bodies of the Chaotic Wolves that was slain by the dignified old man earlier.

As soon as he stood over the dead Chaotic Wolf, which was more than half his height, he outstretched his right hand, and then a swirling vortex, reminiscent of the eye of a tornado, appeared in the middle of his palm. Then, a mighty suction force came from the vortex that manifested on his palm, and the Chaotic Wolf's corpse was instantly sucked into his hand and disappeared.

Immediately after, cracking and disturbing sounds of bones snapping reverberated from his body and echoed all around him, blue veins bulging in and out of existence on the surface of his wrinkled skin, making him appear terrifying within those instances.

Moments later, Cyril, whose appearance had stabilized, continued to stride around the awakening venue. His movement speed had slightly increased. Somehow as he sucked in dead bodies of the Chaotic Wolf, his complexion, which was paler before, seemed to have gained some vitality. As a result, he picked up the pace and kept absorbing the slain corpses of the Chaotic Wolves on the battlefield one after another in his trance-like state.

Each time he sucked a Chaotic Wolf into his palm's vortex, his body's strength increased to a certain extent, allowing him to increase the pace of his movement around the corpse-ridden awakening venue. After he finished absorbing the corpses of the dead Chaotic Wolves within the vicinity of the awakening venue, as if that was not enough for him, he turned to the ones that were still alive within close proximity.

Without hesitation or fluctuation in his expression, Cyril leaped in the direction of one stray Chaotic Wolf and aimed his right arm, clenched into a fist, at its throat. The attack connected, but his forearm bones broke from the impact, and it was even sticking out gorily.

Even with such a painful injury, Cyril didn't stop his assault on the Chaotic Wolf. He didn't seem to feel any pain despite his broken bone, as he was expressionless and still in a trance-like state. Instead, he used his protruded forearm bone to relentlessly stab into the neck of the Chaotic Wolf, causing dark red blood to splash all over his frenzied but otherwise expressionless face from the hole on the Chaotic Wolf's neck.
