Chapter 2 - Chapter 1. Chanced upon

She starts her day by appreciating her skin in the mirror. No breakouts in nine months now, awesome.

She went ahead and got ready for the day. She will be flying to Beverly hills for a charity event for cancer patients. It is named as a charity event but it is more of a show off event for the high society.

She had her breakfast, which consisted of fruits and vermicelli upma, one of her favourites. Soon she was in her car, on the way to the airport.

After sleeping through the entire flight and the entire ride to the hotel, she was in her suite. She had four more hours before the event where she had to be listening to all those dumb people gossip about dumb topics.

The makeup team would be there soon, so she went ahead and took a bath.

After her bath, she was relaxing sipping on her mint mojito in her robe, when the bell of her hotel suit rang. The makeup team came in and soon they started working their magic on her.

After three hours, she was ready from head to toe, and now was the time to take her photos. The arrangements were already done by her team.

'How tiring!' she thought.

At the start of her career, these events, expensive dresses, ornaments, luxury cars made her feel on top of the world, but now they all seem annoying and tiring to her.

After taking some awesome pictures which will be posted on instagram by her team, she went in her limo to the destination.

She was fashionably late.

The later she goes, the much less time she has to spend in the event.

This has been her tactics since past two years.

She stepped out of the car and every camera started clicking in her direction. She made her way inside after posing for several minutes.

Everybody was mingling with each other. Seeing so many people she let out a tired sigh, knowing she will not be having a single moment to herself. She prepared herself to smile and talk to everyone and stepped further in. There she met a group of elderly women.

This was her favourite group, most of them were very warm and kind, she gave them a big real smile and hugged almost everyone except a few she wasn't close to. That was because they were snobby, and unmannered and she didn't like them one bit. They were sweet, actually overly sweet to you if you have money in millions and millions. And if you were a billionaire, well then you were the most precious thing ever.

But after every attempt to get into your good books go in vain, they start talking shit about you. And she knew that very well. She didn't give a single "F" to whatever shit they talked too.

She has been a Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift fan ever since she was a kid , she has seen the media talk shit about them but she knows who they truly are, and they are nowhere near to whatever shit the media wrote about them. So she never lets the tabloids bother her. She is very thankful to both of them for sharing their struggle so openly, this has taught her so much on how to handle social media. Truthfully she never ever searches about herself on the internet. Because she knows how cruel people can get. They sit on the other side, and write things they think they know. They have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. And their truth is far from the real truth.

The night went on and she kept talking and mingling with others. The 10 inch heels were killing her feet, from standing for so long. She was angry at herself for wearing such high heels. But even she knew even if she could go back she wouldn't change her decision.

Having a height of barely 5 feet she had to wear the heels that would help her from not looking small. She remembers in the past, comfort was always her priority but soon she understood that more than comfort what she needed was to be confident and having a short height made her feel less confident, and intimidated by all those tall men.

In all the industry she has worked in, the presence of the female population at the same position as hers was barely there. It was always the men who were at the higher positions. And her being a female proved to be a great disadvantage to her, because most of those men didn't take her seriously and being small in size didn't help her at all. It made her feel small in comparison to them. She never wants to feel that way ever again.

Soon the host asked everyone to settle on their assigned seats as the event was about to get started.

She reached her seat and scanned her eyes through the table, seeing who she will be sitting with the entire night. To her right was Mr. and Mrs. Knight Senior, they were a sweet couple who have been together for more than two decades now.

She envied them, not only were they in love with each other for so many years, but they were lucky enough to not be separated by death. They are both healthy, have children, and soon enough will have grandchildren, not everyone had such luck. Very few did, and she wasn't one of those lucky ones.

To her left was Nicholas Smith which she was happy about. His chair was empty, he was yet to come and to think she was the only one who was fashionably late.

The event started and people started bidding on whatever they liked or whatever their rivals liked.

She prefers writing a cheque for donating money, rather than bidding in the events. She used to participate in the bidding with her husband in the past. It feels like forever since she did that.

In the middle of the bidding Nicholas came with his fiancé, Georgina . Now she knew why he was late.

"You're late." she whispered to him, to not get any attention on her.

"I'm fashionably late." he winked

"It's even later than fashionably late." she said, rolling her eyes.

She gave Georgina a nod, acknowledging her. It's not that she didn't like her, she just didn't know much about her. She comes from some rich family, and they both are getting married for their career benefits. She didn't like it, but she would always be there for her friend.

The event went on with people bidding and competing on who can buy those items for more money.

How stupid!

She got bored so she excused herself to the washroom.

On her way to the washroom she was checking her messages from the group, and chuckling at her brothers childish behavior. Engrossed in her mobile she didn't see the person coming in her direction and collided with their body.

Her feet twisted and she lost the balance, her hands went for the nearest thing to hold upon and it was the man's arm. The man held her, preventing her from falling , his one hand going to her waist and the other to her arm. Her weight was entirely on the man.

She looked up to know the identity of the man, her eyes found the eyes she felt like she knew, but didn't.

His eyes showed recognition and surprise but then it suddenly turned impassive. His face was hidden by any shred of emotion.

He put her back on her feet and took a step back, causing their hands to leave each other's hold. He gave her one last look and went back to wherever he was going.

'Odd' she thought.

Ignoring it, she went in and sat on the toilet doing her business, but her mind couldn't forget those eyes.

Why did she feel like she had seen those eyes somewhere? If she has, then where? Was he some businessman she has maybe seen once, maybe they didn't personally.

He looked rich, the aura around him felt powerful, and regal. Who is he?

She was sure she hadn't seen him in any events.

Was this the first time he has attended any event?

Did he recently take over some company, maybe she has met his father then?

It also felt like he knew her, did he? How?

Well everyone does know me, she told herself.

She thought to not think about it anymore and go on with the night. She came out, washed her hands and walked out.

Taking a deep breath she went back to her table.
