"You have to marry Chelsea!"
I almost toppled out of my chair when I heard that. Did I hear correctly or are my ears playing tricks on me?
"You are playing a joke on me, I hope?!"
"No and I've never been so serious. I want you to find yourself a husband very quickly."
My mother's scowling face tells me right away that she's not kidding.
"A husband? Why do?"
"You are a Chelsea woman, and as such, you must find yourself a husband. Every woman is called upon to marry."
My mother's tone was emphatic.
"Who said a woman should always get married? I'm fine on my own and I have no intention of submitting to a man. I'm a great leader and I lead men who revere me. Marriage would only be tarnished my charisma."
"Can you hear yourself talking there Chelsea? It's not just work and power in life. There's also love. Don't you want to start a family? To have a man by your side to love you and support you? Don't you want to have children? Do you want to end your life alone like a witch?"
"No mum! All of these things are only meant to slow people down in their pursuits and make them weak. I will never stoop to that! I will never be a man's slave! And for your matter, it is not wrong to want to be alone."
"Well, know that I want you to get married. If you inherited this family's assets, it wasn't to become a heartless woman. I'm just giving you two months to get married, otherwise you will....will have to deal with me. With that, end of the discussion!"
That was all. My mom is a stubborn woman when it comes down to it and she won't leave me alone until I fulfill her desire to get married. And that, it is out of the question that I do. And to think that she called me very early in the morning to talk to me about nonsense.
My name is Chelsea Hawam, the daughter of the great businessman Hawam. My father died five years ago. Since then, I have inherited his work. I run a family empire that includes three very successful companies both in our country and in other continents. I lead this with a strong hand, in order to make my father's hard work more prosperous. People find me fierce and heartless, but as long as my character maintains the empire my father built in the top continental, I don't care what other people think. Being a woman, it's not always easy to get by in an environment where only men reign supreme. So I had to impose myself. It is for this reason that I received the name of Donia which symbolizes the patroness.
My dying father placed me at the head of his huge empire, while I have an older brother and two younger brothers. I was not predestined to hold this position because I am a woman, and also because of our eldest who should logically inherit our father's place. However, I demonstrated to my father that neither my sex nor my position in the siblings were blockages to directing what he built. I proved to everyone that this position belonged to me and today everyone agrees that I am a good leader. I create fear wherever I go. Both men and women bend over backwards to respect me. It is therefore out of the question that I bind myself to a man from whom I could take orders. The orders are given by me and the others carry them out. So I refuse to submit to a so-called husband because society imposes it on me.
I left my mother in a rage. I went straight to work. My morning was ruined with the discussion I had with my mother. What an idea ! Me, Chelsea Hawam, getting married! We would hear everything now.
My driver leaves me at my company then I enter to take the elevator. As soon as I walk down the aisle to the elevator, my employees get serious and everyone starts doing an imaginary task.
There is dead silence in the room. They say to themselves that maybe I don't know that they are just doing it on the face of it for fear of me. As soon as my back is turned, the atmosphere will be less tense. Anyway, I love this fear and this respect that my presence imposes everywhere I go.
I arrive at my office and immerse myself in work. I look at the various reports that have been left on my desk for two days. There is the monthly report of each department, with the exception of the legal department. I feel an anger rising in me. In fact, it's been two days since all the reports were supposed to end up on my table. I'm surprised that so far there's been one missing. I quickly call my secretary who comes back trembling.
"Where's the report from the legal department?"
"Uh...Ma'am...I think he must be there."
"You think?! You think I'm paying you graciously to think dumb?" I thundered angrily.
"I'm sorry Madam!"
"I don't care about your excuses. I'm paying you to act! There's a missing report and you can't even recognize it."
"Forgive me Madam, I hadn't paid attention..."
"Next time I'm going to fire you. You know I don't like working with incompetents?!"
"I promise you it won't happen again."
"I hope so for you. Now go out and call me the head of the legal department immediately!"
"Okay madam !"
My secretary comes out and leaves me alone. About five minutes later, there's a knock on my door, and it opens. I see a young man come in. He looks nervous and stressed. He tells me with fear in his eyes
"Good day Mrs !"
