Chereads / CURSED BRIDE / Chapter 8 - Grieving Mother

Chapter 8 - Grieving Mother

"Did she take it?", a handsome man dressed in white, asked the several maids that lined up in front of the door, he sighed with disappointment when they shook and apologized. The man waved them off and entered the room. He found a frail woman lying on a bed in between the baby blue sheets, a small blue pillow clutched to her chest. Gone were the days when this frail woman was bright and happy, her eyes which were bright and clear with joy and expectations now dimmed with sadness and long-suffering, her golden blonde hair laid disheveled on her lump shoulders, her lips chapped with dryness and severe dehydration, she was malnourished. Looking around the room which sat overlooking the beautiful pond garden she had toiled on for years, preparing it to welcome their first child after marriage, she had decorated this room with her own hands, every painting and colours were specifically chosen by her, he remembers the time he also spent helping her turn this room into the perfect one for her child, their child.

He had been happy about having a child of his own, his heir, he wanted a boy, strong like him and beautiful like his mother, but every hope of his, his plans to train him into a mighty responsible man, crushed down on him when she gave birth to a girl, he had to do the necessary, no female child was allowed to live in their family and he had to do what the others had done, kill his child.

For years he watched his wife mourn for the child but he never regretted his actions, he had to save his lineage from that curse, and he thought he had gotten rid of them but no the child lives and the curse has been manifested, and now he will have to complete what he had started, kill the child and relieve this world of her curse, relieve that child of eternal pain and suffering, he knew it won't easy for she has the protection of that witch, but even a witch like Lilith fears him, he will only have to treat the child like a demon and vanquish her only then will she be weak enough to be killed.

He loved his wife, he has always loved her and he wanted her to understand him more than anything, what he did had to be done, he walked towards the bed and took her hand, her digits were cold and bony...

"It had to be done darling I had to do it"...he said in a convincing tone, the woman reacted which was new, her fingers moved and pulled themselves from his grip, this was the problem, he had never been sorry, he still believes what he did was right and never will he apologize for it, feel sorry for what he did. Yes, he was selfish, he knew that all his ancestors have been selfish, they made decisions on their own without thinking of what their spouses might think or feel, in a way he had killed the baby to please them and in another, he had to save the world. In the process of fulfilling his kingly duties, he hurt his beloved and broke her heart, he believed in the saying that, broken hearts take time to mend over time, but it has been nineteen years and she was still the same, grieving over her daughter's death.

"You did it for your good...." she talked! As much as he was glad that she talked her voice was filled with so much hate and disdain "Even your ancestors committed such atrocities and called it saving all for your good..."

"No, my love, never that"...he tried to hold her but she pulled away she wasn't even looking at him..."I couldn't let that child suffer, it had to be done"...he knew he was going through a lot, no woman will smile at the man who killed her daughter...

"It was not our fault our daughter was cursed, she doesn't have to suffer for the sins of your ancestor, that was unfair...it was unfair she had to pay for someone's sins..." She broke down in tears, the tears that she had held in for many years, she couldn't do it anymore it was too much, her lips trembled and her voice shook with pain as she spoke, it was heartbreaking watching her.

"You have broken me beyond repair and I will never forgive you, for what you did, I will never forgive you..." she laid back on the bed, turning her back on him, to hold a carved little pony to her chest as she cried.

East End was a vast kingdom, in fact, one of the most powerful kingdoms and second to the Black Kingdom, its name rather threw people off guard, for it lay in the far south of the Black Kingdom only an ocean separated the two kingdoms. It got its name from their warrior ways, long ago when the four kingdoms were attacked by foreign people who threatened to colonize them and bring their people into slavery, they came together and fought the foreigners off, the warriors of the East End then, stood and supported in vanquishing demons when they attacked and supporting those at the frontline by boosting their morale when the war was over, they broke into the four kingdoms and it got its name because they supported from the east end.

A kingdom like that will always need a befitting heir or heiress to rule, and until that incident that had led to their ancestor being cursed, females who were fit enough to rule became queens but after that, it became dangerous, to save themselves from the doom proclaimed on them, they executed any female child born into the royal family and for a very long time everything has been going well, until now. When he heard of the misfortune that has befallen Reagan's daughter he had been alarmed, for one he knew the child was picked up by his wife and they have been raising her as theirs, what he hadn't thought of was the possibility that the 'picked up' child could be the same child he had ordered to be executed if the child which was his own is the same child Reagan had picked up then, he will have to do what his soldiers have failed to, kill her.

Princess Batya was only a threat to the world, her curse had helped an evil soul slip through the fingers of the watchers in the underworld, roaming the world ready to cause havoc, that old witch still lurks around waiting for the right moment to strike and she will strike through Batya the 'cursed bride', this he will prevent. Looking at his weeping wife, King Noah knew he could take away all her pain and get her daughter back but that was, a mistake he will never make, since she believes that she is dead then he will make sure she stays dead.

His lineage was blessed with the ability to vanquish and cause severe harm to any evil soul, right now that spirit that resides in the curse of Batya was nothing but a remnant of that witch's power and so she becomes vulnerable to the effects of his powers if he could try to vanquish the evil spirit in her curse, she will become weak and so will Lilith that old witch and he will be able to eliminate her, once and for all.

"I'm sorry..." he said and left the room, he wanted to add that, 'it has to be done and he has caused her so much pain already.

With those three on the mission he had nothing to worry about by morning Princess Batya will be dead.
