Chapter 56 - Death Flower Party (4)

As Gabbi surveyed the gruesome scene before him, the bloody battlefield lay strewn with the lifeless bodies of numerous Grove Stalkers. The air was thick with the stench of death, reminiscent of a slaughterhouse, and it clung to his nostrils, refusing to let go.

In the immediate vicinity, he spotted the remains of one of Joaquin's henchmen, a man he had seen earlier with a protruding belly. Now, the man lay dead, half of his body desiccated, with only a few scattered leaves marking the area where he had fallen.

Far beyond the carnage of Joaquin's skirmish with the Grove Stalker leader, Gabbi's eyes caught sight of the first caravan, seemingly unscathed amidst the chaos.

As he focused on the group, he could make out the handler, two men nursing minor injuries, and two women, all of whom appeared to have escaped the worst of the conflict.

*Boom!*

The air around Joaquin and the Head of the Grove Stalkers erupted in a violent cacophony as they exchanged powerful blows.

The monstrous leader's limbs, reminiscent of gnarled wood and twisted vines, were severed in half, only to regenerate with astonishing speed.

Joaquin's lips curled into an eerie smile, his eyes gleaming with excitement as blood trickled down his forehead, staining his face with crimson streaks.

In the distance, a cadre of Grove Stalkers gathered their arcane energies, launching a barrage of magical projectiles towards Joaquin.

He caught sight of the incoming attack and muttered, "Damn these pesky nuisances!"

With swift reflexes, he hoisted his axe, which emanated a faint, viscous energy, forming a protective barrier to deflect the torrent of spells.

In response, the colossal Grove Stalker leader unleashed a torrent of spiky, sinister vines that surged towards Joaquin with frightening velocity. The tendrils whipped through the air like whips, seeking to ensnare and impale their target from every conceivable angle.

The creature's strategy to crush Joaquin beneath its overwhelming might and pierce his flesh with its razor sharp thorns, leaving him at the mercy of its unrelenting wrath.

The atmosphere bristled with palpable tension as the sinewy, spiked appendages of the Grove Stalker chieftain menacingly encircled Joaquin.

With a swift, fluid motion, he cleaved through the writhing tendrils, reducing them to mere shreds that vanished like wisps of smoke.

Joaquin's aura surged with newfound vigor, shrouding him in a formidable energy that seemed to emanate from the very core of his being. His blood coursed through his veins with the ferocity of a volcanic eruption, a testament to the untamed power that now consumed him.

Meanwhile, Gabbi stealthily approached the group of Grove Stalkers with incredible speed. A throwing knife materialized before him, and he swiftly channeled his mana to enhance its potency and velocity.

Joaquin muttered under his breath, "If only those pesky be-" He caught sight of someone advancing towards the group of Grove Stalkers. "Wasn't that him earlier? Where are the others?"

He refocused his attention onto the Grove Stalker leader, his axe emanating a sinister and foreboding presence. "At least he knows how to assess the situation," Joaquin begrudgingly admitted, steeling himself for the impending confrontation.

With a burst of speed, he lunged towards the formidable adversary, who was in the midst of weaving a scorching beam of arcane power from the depths of its cavernous maw.

Joaquin's muscular arm propelled his axe with unrelenting force, the weapon cleaving through the air in a cataclysmic arc, ultimately colliding with the seething beam of magic.

*Boom!*

The explosive impact reverberated through the battlefield, drawing the attention of the remaining Grove Stalkers. As they caught sight of Gabbi, they hastily began to unleash their own magical assaults.

However, before they could fully execute their spells, a tempest of razor sharp knives, thrown with deadly precision, found their targets, burying themselves deep within the eyes of the unsuspecting creatures. One after another, they crumpled to the ground, their agonized cries echoing through the air.

With fervent determination, the close combatants of the Grove Stalkers charged towards Gabbi, their eyes ablaze with the thrill of battle. Unfazed, Gabbi met them directly, his grip tightening around the hilt of his dagger, its blade pulsating with the crimson energy of his mana.

A long distance away, a dark skinned woman with a keen eye for strategy took a moment to assess the unfolding chaos. After a few calculated seconds, she made her move, gracefully weaving her way towards another group of Grove Stalkers she deemed manageable.

Larry weighed his options, his thoughts focused on determining the most effective course of action as he advanced towards Gabbi.

Meanwhile, Hugo's heart raced as beads of sweat trickled down his face, his body trembling at the sight of the formidable Grove Stalker leader. In hushed tones, he whispered to Berto, "We should be prepared to run if things take a turn for the worse."

Berto nodded in agreement, his eyes darting across the battlefield. "Absolutely, we need to stay as close as possible," he replied, before adding, "Let's help the dark skinned woman," With that, the two of them cautiously advanced towards her position, ready to lend their support.

Without warning, a contingent of Grove Stalkers materialized in the distance, their menacing silhouettes looming against the horizon. They advanced towards the party, launching a ferocious and unrelenting assault.

The air crackled with tension as the fierce battle between the Grove Stalkers and the Death Flower Party erupted, the cacophony of clashing and magic incantations reverberating throughout the surrounding area.

The once tranquil forest was now a maelstrom of violence, as both sides fought relentlessly, each determined to emerge victorious.

After an intense bout of combat, Gabbi found himself panting softly. He withdrew his dagger from the anterior belly of the creature's chin, causing its lifeless form to collapse to the ground.

Gabbi's attention then shifted to the older gentleman who had come to his aid. Despite the man's somewhat gaunt frame, he wielded his mace with remarkable efficiency. Gabbi couldn't help but feel a twinge of admiration for the man's prowess.

With a composed demeanor, Gabbi expressed his gratitude, "Thank you for your assistance, Larry."

Larry gave a subtle nod, his voice steady and calm. "There's no prob—"

Abruptly, Gabbi spotted a surge of magic hurtling towards them. With a swift reflexes, he shoved Larry out of harm's way, while simultaneously jumped backward to avoid the impending danger.

In the chaos, the round locket necklace around Larry's neck snapped, sending the precious pendant flying a short distance away.

As they narrowly dodged the magical onslaught, Larry's eyes locked onto the locket, his expression filled with a desperation akin to one who had lost their most treasured possession, a lifeline severed in an instant.

The Grove Stalker, a sinister creature with elongated, barbed wooden appendages, seized the opportunity and lunged at Larry, aiming to impale his skull with its deadly limbs.

With a powerful, agile leap, Gabbi intercepted the attack, his dagger slicing through the air with a deadly precision.

He managed to sever the appendage, but not entirely, as it still managed to pierce Larry's shoulder, sending him hurtling backward in pain, a cry of anguish escaping his lips.

Undeterred, Gabbi mustered all his strength and skill to cut through the remaining limbs of the monstrous creature, its deer like head atop a twisted trunk like body writhing in agony.

As another Grove Stalker launched a magical assault, a barrage of arcane energy swirling around it, Gabbi sprang into action. Utilizing his twin leap ability, he deftly maneuvered through the air, evading the deadly spells.

Suddenly, a knife materialized in his hand, its blade gleaming with lethal intent. With a swift, fluid motion, he hurled the knife at the creature, striking it down and eliminating the remaining close quarters combatants.

In the aftermath of the battle, Gabbi strode purposefully towards the fallen attackers, his eyes fixed on the gleaming round locket that lay among the debris. As he picked it up, he resisted the urge to peek inside, honoring the sanctity of Larry's cherished possession.

With the locket in hand, he approached the old gentleman, who was struggling to catch his breath.

Larry's eyes widened with relief as he saw the cherished locket in Gabbi's hand. He extended his uninjured arm, his fingers trembling with desperation, and Gabbi gently placed the necklace into his waiting grasp.

Clutching the locket tightly, Larry felt a renewed sense of determination surge through him.

In a seamless motion, a vial of thick, crimson potion materialized in Gabbi's hand. He offered it to the weary old man, his voice calm. "Drink this, Larry."

Larry hesitated for a moment, his gaze shifting between the potion and Gabbi's mask. He took the vial and raised it to his lips, allowing the restorative liquid to flow down his parched throat.

*Boom!*

Gabbi's attention was drawn to the source of the sound, where he saw Joaquin locked in a fierce battle with the leader of the Grove Stalkers.

The conflict was nearing its climax, as the once regenerating behemoth lay defeated on the forest floor, its powers of rejuvenation seemingly exhausted.

Joaquin propelled himself skyward, his twin axes humming with a dense, viscous energy. As he descended, he targeted a catastrophic strike at the Grove Stalker leader's skull.

However, just as his axes were poised to make their lethal impact, an unforeseen shield barrier shimmered into existence, thwarting his assault. From the depths of the creature's maw, a menacing beam of energy began to coalesce.

Caught off guard, Joaquin cursed under his breath. "Fuck!"

In that critical instant, the Grove Stalker leader's gaze was unexpectedly drawn to Gabbi, who had woven a spell that momentarily diverted the monster's attention. Seizing this fleeting window of opportunity, Joaquin executed his pulverizing strike.

With a nauseating crunch, the Grove Stalker leader's cranium was annihilated by the sheer force of Joaquin's axes. Shards of bone and gory fragments of viscera hurtled through the air, splattering the verdant forest floor with the grisly remains of the once fearsome adversary.
