Chapter 17 - Unexpected Occurrence

Chase

Watching my boss's car leave the estate at the speed of lightning , I can't help feeling a deep sense of impending doom. It gets worse when it starts to rain.At the entrance of the Rossini mansion, I start to worry.

I mean sure Bruno Rossini is the most capable man I know but he's still a man. He's not invicible. I wish that he'd get that through his head and stop being so reckless.

Right now,he'd just drove away like a bat outta hell.In this weather. What makes it worse is that these days, he firmly refuses to take security with him when he's not on business.

Like I said,reckless.

It's not his fault though, It's the fault of this Rivera woman , the one he's obsessed with. She's the one that's fucking with his head.

I don't get it.Why is this woman different from the other women he's fucked before without a shred of emotion. It's a complicated mystery, one that I really don't want to solve.

This woman has got to go.But I don't think it's going to happen, unfortunately. The man has clearly got it bad for that woman.

She's not good for him though and the sooner he figured that out the better. If he doesn't she'll be the death of him, I'm sure of it.

I sigh deeply and make my way back into the house to grab my jacket befote I leave.

Some might say that I'm too interested in his boss's affairs .

Wrong.

I'm just trying to do my job and protect my boss, even when he doesn't know that he needs protecting.

Sometimes boss says that I take my job a bit too seriously. He has a point. It is

all have so of course I take it seriously. His safety will always come first to me. Even if he doesn't like that, O think entering the kitchen.

I know what you're thinking: he's being a asshole just because he's still mad about being duped by another woman who happened to be close to his boss. Okay, so I'm still mad about that but it's not what's happening. I may have looked like an idiot infront of my boss today but I'm okay with it.

I grab my jacket on the stool of the kitchen counter and make my way towards the door. I stop when a desperate voice says my name. I turn around to gaze at Giana Rossini's distressed face, wearimg nothing but a nightdress.

I can't thonk of a more uncomfortable scene. She's barely dressed and in an empty kitchen with me. Great. If the boss suspected anything funny...

""Is there anything you need from me Ms Giana," I ask politely like her little stunt did not make me look look an idiot infront of my noss a couple of minutes ago.

'Yes," she tells me.

" Do you know when my brother will be back to this bouse?" She asks in a woebegone voice. My anger with the spoilt princess immediately evaporates and I suddenly feel a surge of sympathy for her.

She clearly thinks the world of her angry brother.

"I'm sorry ma'am but I don't. Mr Rossini is currently occupied at the moment with an important project." I tell her.

At that she bows her head and immediately starts crying.

I feel so uncomfortable that I'd give anything for her to stop. At the same time my heart breaks for thelittle Rossini princess.

"So he'll just go on hating me?" She asks between sobs.

"He doesn't hate you. He's just a little upset. He'll get over it in no time, you'll see."

Head still bowed, she shakes her head in disbelief, her pony tail bouncing with the motion.

"I just wish that there was a way that I could talk to him soon. I'd clear everything up and he wouldn't hate me anymore," she says as she lifts her head and looks st me with those big, sad, brown eyes.

I shouldn't but...

"Look, maybe I can help with that. I'll arrange for you to meet him as soon as possible.

Her eyes light up at that."You'd seriously do that," she asks.

"Yes. "I tell her.

"You promise?

"Yes. But I'll have to warn you,it might tke a while. Things..."

I'm cut off as Giana suddenly lets out an excited shriek before locking me in an entirely inappropriate embrace.

" Thank you thank you, thank you! You have no idea what this means to me."

"It's my pleasure ma'am. You can let go now," I tell her, uncomcortable with her little body plastered to mine.

I'm so fired if anyone sees this.I gotta get out of here!

She lets go off me and gives me a shy smile

"I'm sorry.I'm just so happy,"

" It's okay ma'am I completely understand. I have to go now."

"Okay. I'll catch you later then," she says with a smile before climbing the stairs.

As she does this, she runs the tears from her eyes.

I then notice something on her face that makes me frown deeply: A smirk. I clench my jaw in anger.

I think that little girl played me.

*****

I'm more than a little pissed when I finally make it to my car. A little rain drenches my suit, putting me in a much worse mood.I'm disliking this day more and more .

I remind myself to drive slowly due to the weather. I don't want anythimg to happen to me.Call me paranoid but when there's a risk of something bad happening, I try by all means to make sure it doesn't occur, even if that chance is small. I wish everybody kived by the same mentality.

I get behind the wheel of my SUV and drive away from the Rossini home. I'm more than glad as I don't think I can bear to stay in that house a second longer. Judging by Giana's behavior, along with that of her camily earlier today, It's safe to conclude that they're a calculating bunch . No wonder boss stayed away

He didn't trust that they had his best interests at heart.

This little scene today just helped me in solving part of the mystery that's been puzzling me for years called:

Bruno Rossini.

It's not that the man hates people, he just doesn't trust them. With a family like that, It's not surprisng.

As I drive slowly on the heavy rain, my mind turns to him. Where must he be right now?

Due to the speed at which he drove away, I think that he's probably half way to the Rivera woman's house by now.

Sighing in defeat,I take one hand from the wheel to massage my temple. I don't like this woman at all and I definitely did not like where this was going. There was just this terrible feeling.

As if the Gods are confirming my fears, I encounter something that makes me sit upright in my seat.

I probably didn't see it at first because of the rain but I sure as hell saw it when I passed it: Boss's Aston Martin crashed into a tree and smoke coming from it.

"Boss!" I yell as I turn the car around back to the scene. I stop the car before getting out and rushing towards the damaged vehicle.

As I get completely drenched in the rain, I try to handle this unexpected occurrence.
