Chapter 1 - Prologue

Havens Gate, the home of the Gods. Under the Mother Tree.

Oberon paced back and forth underneath the mother tree. His brown hair was long, passed his shoulders and he kept his beard short. Oberon towered over most of the gods at 7 feet, and well built. His eyes were greener than the leaves above his head. Oberon was thinking hard, angry. The gods had denied them again. Why should we ask to have children? Why should we have to worship? We are from the creator of all, just as they are. Why should they be superior? It is not our fault they have become so vain, so consumed with themselves that they think them worthy of altars and followers; we should not be punished. The earth is ours. It is ours to create on. No one else. Why do they suppress us? Do they mean to make us worship them? I think not. We are stronger. We are of the earth. Oberon looked up into the branches of the mother tree, seeking answers that weren't there. Hearing footsteps, he turned to see his wife Mab approaching. Mab was small, with straight black hair and amber eyes that seemed to glow, even in daylight. She wore a soft cotton dress in a dusty maroon color. He could see the sadness in her eyes and knew that she had heard the news as well. Picking up a rock, he hurled into the stream close by and screamed. You could feel all the frustration and pain in his voice. Thousands of years they had been here. The great mother had created them because she was lonely, the gods were her first children, and they had gone away from her. Too busy fighting and breeding with each other to care who or what they hurt. They forgot the reason they were there. With no one to share the beauty of the earth with. All they wanted was to be free! Free to travel the earth they worshiped, to have children. Mab placed a gentle hand on Oberon's arm, and when he turned, he saw tears in her eyes.

"We will never get them to agree to anything Oberon. We must act or resign to be prisoners here forever." He knew that she was right, but could they handle the wrath of the gods if they invoked it? He wouldn't risk Mab's life, or the life of his second wife Titania. He pulled Mab close, stroking her hair and murmuring to her.

"We must leave. Their permission be damned. If we can get to earth, and out of this hell they call their Haven, the mother will protect us. These gods have forgotten their duty to the great mother of us all. The earth is tormented by monsters, its life force fading. We cannot stand by any longer and let this stand. We must act." Oberon kissed Mab softly.

"Go, find Titania, and wait for me here. I will speak to the king of dragons. Tonight, we escape this place. the Fae will have a future, on earth."
