The monstrosity seemed not to sense Adam's attacks, yet he continued to strike due to the fact that he could think of nothing else. Ironically, what saved him were the Stalkers. A group of them also tried to devour the monstrosity, so they fell on it like vultures.
Unfortunately, they didn't forget about Adam either, who had to resist the Stalkers while avoiding being absorbed by the monstrosity. In time, the zombies make the monster mad and another shriek froze everyone.
Adam was able to clear his mind a bit at that moment, but right after, something stirred inside the monstrosity. A hideous mouth opened like a flower and revealed a huge eye looking everywhere.
Adam tried to attack, but was trapped by its arm. The monstrosity began to defend itself against the Stalkers using some sort of magic that caused the Stalkers to fall to the ground, not completely dead, but paralyzed.
Adam tried to find a way out, but his situation was desperate, he needed some way to attack the thing, but he couldn't think hard enough to come up with something. In desperation, he turned to look at his arm and, after a moment's hesitation, began to slash at it with his sword. The distorted fleshy mass gave way easily to the blade of the weapon and Adam fell to the ground.
At that instant the monstrosity turned its attention back to him. From its eye a translucent green colored ripple was released. Adam propelled himself with his one arm and managed to narrowly dodge it.
As he tried to get up, another group of Stalkers attacked. Luckily, the monstrosity was the jackpot and most ignored Adam. However, the attack proved futile, as the monstrosity continued to cast spell after spell until it left the ground littered with zombies, which it began to absorb while they were still alive.
Adam suppressed the fear he felt and used the numerous Stalkers on the ground to get closer as he moved away from the places where they were being consumed by the monstrosity.
He knew he had to kill that thing before it could eat enough to grow out of control. Adam was sure it would soon form the cocoon again and begin to grow, so he needed to get close without attracting its attention.
He clumsily jabbed his sword into a Stalker that had noticed him and then continued to crawl along the ground. The monstrosity didn't notice his presence, so he was able to get closer than he thought. At that moment, his luck changed.
Many of the Stalkers on the ground regained mobility and tried to stand up. Adam was about to back away when a bubble began to inflate in the monstrosity's skin until it burst and created a lump of flesh that covered everyone, both the Stalkers and Adam.
He had to struggle momentarily to free one leg, but managed to climb on top of a Stalker that had been trapped by the mass of flesh.
Before Adam managed to fully understand what was happening, the monstrosity pulled the lump towards itself, which caused the mass of flesh to move towards the center. Adam decided this was his chance, so he tried to stand over the Stalker.
Without an arm, this cost him much more than he expected, especially when trying not to completely lose his balance as the monstrosity dragged all the Stalkers towards itself. By the time he managed to stand, Adam barely had time to think about his next move.
So he simply didn't think. He just trusted the instincts that came included in the [Warrior] class and jumped with all his might straight towards the eye. The monstrosity turned to look at him at the last moment, but Adam was already making a slash with his sword. The eye raised a weak barrier of energy and tried to hide in the middle of the mass of flesh, but Adam easily broke through the barrier and managed to cut it before it could hide.
The result was immediate. The whole world around him froze and Adam found himself, in the blink of an eye, in a completely dark world. Moments later, to his utter confusion, he appeared sitting in a moving vehicle, staring into what had once been an eye.
The eye that had trapped him in that world had been destroyed and the others closed as the giant mass began to shudder. What brought Adam back to reality was an abrupt crash that caused him to hit the steering wheel.
Still dazed, Adam looked up, his talent came back to life and he could feel its soothing effect again. It didn't take him long to realize the situation he was in, so he backed up a bit and tried to continue on his way to the parking lot where Tracel was waiting for him. In the meantime, he was trying to stay sane after what he had experienced.
The monstrosity spasmed and stopped expanding. Realizing this, Adam momentarily looked back and regretted it at once. From where he stood he could not see the main body, but he saw a gigantic eye staring at him from the street. He recognized it at once, it was the same eye he had cut out in that nightmare, but this time it was much larger, for it must have taken up half the street.
He looked straight ahead again, while his heart was beating at an incredible speed. He was only a few meters away from turning into the parking lot, but there was a problem. The masses of flesh around him began to converge on his position, trying to stop his passage. Luckily, it was too late to stop him, he managed to break free and step onto the asphalt for the first time. Just when he thought he had succeeded, the monstrosity cast a spell on him.
He did not realize the attack until the last moment, for the spell was a green wave, like the one he had seen in the nightmare. It passed through the car, which diminished its power a little, and impacted on his back. His whole body stopped responding and he was paralyzed. The car immediately lost control, swerved to the left and flipped over, rolling over a couple of times before coming to a stop.
Adam lived through all of this unable to move and ended up bouncing all over the place before ending up over a doorway, completely sore. He tried desperately to wiggle his fingers, but to no avail. Besides, a few meters away from him, a mass of flesh was approaching.
In the meantime, just as Adam had just escaped from the nightmare, Miguel and Leonard were on the rooftop. From there, they watched as the monstrosity began to shudder.
The disturbing influence of the eyes disappeared so suddenly that Miguel looked directly at the monstrosity without meaning to. There he saw something he wished he could forget. The grotesque mass around the Tree opened like a flower bud and a huge eye emerged from within. The eye was held by a thin thread of flesh connecting it to the bud.
The eye rose to exceed the size of the nearby buildings and then stretched out into the street. Miguel followed its gaze and watched with relief as Adam moved down the street. This was short lived, as the eye cast a spell that caused the car to lose control. Miguel cursed and without thinking, raised his gun and fired towards the eye.
The shot never reached its target, as an energy barrier crossed its path. Still, the monstrosity writhed, full of pain. Michael lay down, along with Leonard, who had watched everything in silence.
The eye turned its gaze to the ceiling and then turned its attention back to Adam. Miguel thought he would not attack them, but then the grating that covered the staircase, by which they had climbed, flew off into the sky to make way for an amorphous mass of flesh that rose like a pillar into the sky.
In that mass of flesh a giant eye opened and stared at them. The flesh that was beginning to flood the rooftop rushed toward Miguel and Leonard at great speed, while the eye began to glow green.
Miguel was about to call out to Leonard, but to his surprise, he was already kicking the ball towards the monstrosity.
The attack hit an energy barrier, but this one seemed much weaker, as it broke right away and the eye ended up bursting with an unpleasant sound. The pillar of flesh fell, but another one soon rose up.
"We'd better run."
Miguel was already up by this time and agreed with Leonard. They both started running, getting closer and closer to block 2.
