Human greed and curiosity don't know any bounds.
Normal humans, who don't have any abilities could be killed by an Awakened or a Fiend without knowing how they died.
That is why, humans tried to do everything to feel more safe in this cruel world. Some of them gave themselves to the faith and found peace. While some of them dedicated themselves to the kingdoms trying to be helpful with what everyone could do to gain at least basic protection. Such as farming, mining, researching, medicines, and many more things that every human could do.
As for Daisy, she gave herself to Celeste Weaver with the hope of being a good spy for her and in return, rich retirement in the future.
Unfortunately for her though, she couldn't hold back her greed and listened to Auriel's conversation with Elise, to earn more. But she ultimately got caught by the person she was eavesdropping.
Without even giving any chance for her to defend herself, Auriel grabbed her hair and pulled her face to his.
Tears were coming from Daisy's brown eyes, not because of the pain she was experiencing, but because of Auriel's cruel amethyst eyes that were coldly looking down on her.
It was evident that her fate was already sealed. All she could do was to pray that her life would end painlessly or be rescued by Celeste, even though she knew that Celeste wouldn't even look at the tears coming from her desperate eyes and sacrifice her. She was a mundane human after all, a disposable tool with no future.
The corner of Auriel's lips lifted slightly as he leaned to Daisy's ear. "What did you hear?" he asked but Daisy didn't utter any words and just sobbed.
"So, you heard it all, huh?" Auriel shook his head with pity and looked into Daisy's eyes. "Fortunately for you, I have a soft spot for you as you were my maid for as long as I can remember. So, I might grant you mercy. All you need to do is to tell me about Celeste and what she knows about me."
Daisy continued to cry uncontrollably, she didn't have any strength to stop herself as she thought that Auriel was lying right now.
Auriel watched this sight until Daisy calmed and her eyes puffed up because of the excessive crying. He didn't feel any pity towards this girl as he didn't have any time for it.
After he learned that Daisy was a spy of Celeste, he knew that he needed to kill them both to ensure his safety or escape.
On his first day in this world, he had asked about his relationship with his family to Daisy. So, he was sure that Celeste knew about his strange question from Daisy as she was her spy.
And now if Daisy tells his plan of joining the Afterlife Church to Celeste, he would be in deeper shit than right now.
There was only one option he needed to choose, that is to kill Daisy and tell the guards that she was a spy without telling them whose spy she was.
But he didn't want to kill this woman like this as that would be a waste. He wanted information from her and the best way to get was torture, or carrot and stick.
He swung the carrot of 'mercy', but Daisy didn't take it.
With a devil-like smile that shows his canine teeth, he leaned to her ear and whispered sweetly. "Okay okay, I lied. But I can grant you a painless death if you cooperate with me. Are you alright with it, dear Daisy?"
Daisy froze in her place and slowly turned towards Auriel. Then she lingered while looking at Aurie with empty eyes, eventually nodding her head and parting her lips.
She told everything she knew, which was not much of use to Auriel.
While Daisy was speaking Auriel's hands moved like a snake and grabbed her neck, she let out a small help but continued to speak as if her life depended on this. When she began to spout useless information, Auriel concluded that she didn't have any more information, and broke her neck.
With a sharp breaking noise, Daisy's head lost its balance, and Auriel withdrew his hands, releasing Daisy from his grasp.
She fell onto her back to the floor like a puppet whose strings were cut off. Her long hair spread on the wood ground and her eyes lost their shine, but there was a slight smile on her now pale face that carried hundreds of incomprehensible feelings.
A sigh escaped from Auriel as he got up and plopped down on the couch, directly on Elise's side.
The poor teenage girl was trembling again with fear as that murder was a bit too cold-blooded for her. However, she didn't puke, cry or let out any voice this time, which was good progress.
Auriel smiled as he liked this. Then he leaned to Elise's ear and whispered threateningly. "Don't even think of betraying me, or else you will meet this little spying mouse in the afterlife."
"But if you stay like the good girl you are, and listen to my orders, you can live like a king, queen in your case I guess." Auriel jokingly added and clasped his hands while yelling towards the door.
"Guards!"
Heavy footsteps closed Auriel's room, eventually opening the door and entering the inside.
"Take this corpse of the spy and throw it to the dogs," Auriel ordered, which guards took a look of pity towards the lifeless body for a second and carried it out. Blood and corpses weren't a rare sight in the Weaver mansion and these guards were pretty much used to this.
