Auriel joked to reduce the tense atmosphere and be ready for the incoming fiend but he failed miserably.
He was still nervous about seeing a fiend in close and maybe even fighting with it, instead of his usual watching it from a magical, maybe divine, glass panel.
Fortunately, though, he had Sebastian in his hand for a meat shield to protect himself and Gordon, who was Master and his guard.
Sebastian could just distract the fiend while Gordon delivered a lethal blow to the fiend if it has any.
Though this basic but still plausible plan had a clear weakness, that was the fiend's fighting style.
Even before Auriel ordered Gordon or moved Sebastian to the door, the painful screams of humans stopped completely, only leaving some animalistic screeching sound that came from the fiends and scraping sound from the floors.
Then suddenly, the blood that seeped under the door moved like a snake and shot through Sebastian, this blob of blood transformed in the air into a small completely red bipedal creature about 3 ft long with metallic claws on 4 of its limbs.
With an instinctive reaction, Sebastian lifted both his arms in front of his face and waited for his doom, but the red creature crashed something invisible in the air and fell to the floor.
This was the ability of Sebastian, which was the ability to create invisible barriers. The barrier that stopped the red creature wasn't intentional on Sebastian's part. All of the Awakened knew how to use their abilities instinctively and if needed they could use these abilities like how a normal human covers their face in front of an incoming ball or rock to the face. Though this instinctive reaction was more expensive than intentionally creating.
Gordon, who saw this took advantage of the momentary confusion of the fiend that was caused by crashing to the invisible barrier, and threw his spear with an inhuman speed.
Even before Auriel saw the spear fly in the air, the red skinned fiend's head exploded, and its headless body fell to the floor, splashing black blood and brain matter everywhere. And the spear of Gordon was stuck on its side.
Sebastian's legs went limp and he suddenly fell to the floor. He kicked the floor, pushing himself to the back with pale complexion and wide eyes, only to crash onto Gordon, who was looking at him as if he was looking at a very disgusting trash.
Without caring for Sebastian's pathetic attempt, Gordon passed him and took his spear while crushing the red skinned fiend's corpse with his metal boots. Then he swung his spear to the side, sending the blood and brain pieces that smeared on the spear.
"Hmmm, a Shapeshifter Monstrosities. Dealing with them will be troublesome." Gordon murmured to himself.
Monstrosities were fiends that gained a little bit of intelligence and specialized ability. Their fighting strength was roughly equal to that of the Masters with their ability and usually stronger bodies. Though humans were at more advantage against them because of their high intelligence contrary to the Monstrosities with intelligence lesser than a 5-year-old.
Shapeshifter was one of the classes that humans gave the fiends who could change their shape at will. These fiends were usually weaker in strength wise but faster and more versatile than normal fiends.
Hence, dealing with a Shapeshifter Monstrosity was hard, Gordon was just lucky enough to take advantage of its momentary confusion.
But now, there were more fiends outside of this room and Auriel didn't know their numbers.
Auriel released the breath he was holding and the shock he felt after seeing the sneak attack of the fiend calmed quickly. He was used to seeing dead bodies and gore, all he needed to get used to was just the adrenaline and shock of being in front of a real friend.
"How many were there outside and how the fuck even that many guards died?" Auriel asked harshly.
Gordon closed his eyes to sense the outside. He was an experienced Master contrary to Auriel who didn't even know how to sense 3 ft around his body, so he quickly sensed whatever he needed, and calmly explained.
"There are few of them, young master Auriel. It seems many guards left this place and most of the fiends followed after them, leaving only 3 Monstrosity, a few Devolved, and Changeling. Probably they are also Shapeshifters like this one."
Auriel nodded as he also thought that most of these fiends might be Shapeshifters. Though he didn't know what to do right now.
Should they wait in this room, until soldiers from the Weaver family came, or should they leave this room and make their way to the Weaver mansion. 2 of these choices had advantages and disadvantages.
If they waited in this room, they would be mostly safe other than the other fiends who came to this room, but he also thought that soldiers from the Weaver mansion might ignore this auction house, and go somewhere else, as most of the fiends weren't even here right now.
And if they left this room, they needed to fight against 3 Monstrosity, possibly Shapeshifters, and a bunch of other weaker but still strong fiends and walk to the Weaver mansion. He didn't think that the streets would be safe after a gate opened, so their journey to the Weaver mansion too would be hard.
Auriel was inclined to stay here but he decided to ask Gordon's opinion as he was more experienced than him in this kind of thing.
Though the answer he got from Gordon wasn't something pleasant.
"It would be best to get out here, young master Auriel. Fiends might come back here to eat the corpses that they have left."
