Roxana held Damian's arm tightly; she walked slowly as they began to explore the cave. The cave was surrounded by darkness, and the narrow road made Roxana feel suffocated.
The place was so quiet that even Roxana could hear her footsteps and loud breath. She walked between Damian and Zagan because they didn't want Roxana to face the danger from the front or the back.
"Can you see the end of the road?" asked Roxana to Damian.
Damian shook his head. "The road in front of us looks so long as it has no end."
Damian's eyesight was very sharp, and he was usually able to see places far away from where he was standing. However, despite his best efforts to sharpen his vision, he could only see the same road this time. The only thing he saw was emptiness and darkness, not a single living thing or object in front of them.
Damian finally lit the fire in his palm so that Roxana could also see in the darkness, thus making her less anxious.
