Chapter 8 - The Sin of Being Useless

"Do you want to embarrass the Oberon family?"

After Roxana ended up dying a miserable death in her first life, she tried hard to persuade her parents not to marry her off to The Grand Wizard.

However, this was the first time Roxana firmly refused.

She was too tired of persuasion and preferred to be a rebel. After all, her persuasions had never succeeded in convincing her father not to marry her off to Izekiel.

Because according to everyone, getting a proposal from the Grand Wizard was something more precious than diamonds and the king's throne, so it was impossible for the Duke of Oberon to refuse the marriage proposal.

"Mother, I also have the right to object to the marriage," Roxana said firmly.

Camilla laughed loudly as if she wanted to mock her daughter for suddenly acting stubborn. "Roxana, as long as your parents are alive, your rights remain in our hands."

Roxana was silent. She didn't reply to Camilla and preferred to let her mother ramble on until she was tired.

However, her eyes never moved from Camilla's. Roxana continued to stare at her mother like a snake that wanted to wait for its prey to let its guard down.

"The point is that you can't refuse! You could publicly shame our family if people find out a woman like you rejected the Grand Wizard!"

Roxana narrowed her eyes as she heard Camilla's implied insult. So many thoughts slowly began to emerge in her mind.

What kind of woman was she that could make people feel that Roxana was not worthy of the Grand Wizard?

If she was indeed unworthy of the Grand Wizard, why did Roxana end up married to Izekiel in her previous lives?

Ah, Roxana remembered something.

At first, the Grand Wizard did not choose Roxana as his future wife, but he chose her highly talented twin sister—

—Rosaline Oberon.

Rosaline and Roxana's faces were identical, both having beautiful and attractive appearances in the eyes of men. Unfortunately, their fates were opposites.

The Oberon family obtained the title of Duke for hundreds of years because their descendants were always blessed with sacred fire magic. The fire summoned by the Oberon Family could not be extinguished and could burn anything without exception.

Moreover, fire magic users, especially sacred fire magic users, were infrequent in the Vithia Kingdom. Thanks to the fire magic, the kingdom has always given special treatment to the Oberon Family and their descendants.

However, it turned out that not all of Oberon's descendants could be born as talented wizards.

When Roxana and Rosaline were born, they had different fate lines.

Rosaline Oberon was born a prodigy. She could control sacred fire magic since she was five years old, while other children could only use magic when they were ten.

Rosaline's fire was hotter and more intense than the fire magic of her predecessors, so Rosaline was considered a trophy and the pride of Oberon.

Roxana, on the other hand, did not receive this gift.

Roxana was born with very weak fire magic. Rosaline's fire magic could burn a mountain, but Roxana could only light a candle.

Their significant differences led the people of Vithia to refer to them as 'Diamond and Pebble'.

Rosaline was considered a descendant of Oberon, who could shine amongst gold, while Roxana was just a pebble bathed in mud.

"I don't want to hear your stupid rejection words again when you come to the dining room." Camilla then walked to the door after being satisfied throwing her anger at Roxana. "Don't be late. Your father doesn't like to wait."

"Yes, Mother."

Although Roxana's head was bowed down, her eyes never left Camilla. She watched her mother's every move and made many conclusions in her head.

Her mother had never changed.

Roxana had gone through five lives, but Camilla had never once looked at Roxana with affection and preferred to ignore her.

If the Grand Wizard had not proposed to her, Camilla would not have bothered to come to Roxana's room and talk to her.

"Roxie, who is Izek?"

The black cat, who had been hiding under the bed, finally walked over to Roxana. He then jumped onto the bed and looked at Roxana as he tilted his head.

Before Damian could get an answer, he was surprised by Roxana, who hugged him suddenly.

"You are so soft," Roxana said as she rubbed her face against the soft fur covering the cat's body.

Damian hissed and tried to push Roxana's face away using his cat's hand.

Instead of successfully shooing Roxana away, Damian made Roxana press the soft cushion under the cat's paw.

Roxana didn't show her smile at all, but her widened eyes and reddened face were enough to prove that she really liked the black cat in front of her.

"Your paw is also as soft as a feather." Roxana stroked Damian's head.

Damian took out his claws when Roxana didn't stop pressing his hand. "This soft hand can also scratch you."

Instead of being scared, Roxana found Damian even more adorable. "Why is this cat getting angry? Do you want a snack?"

"Roxana!" Damian exclaimed, "You haven't even answered my question!"

Roxana finally stopped touching Damian and sat next to him. Apart from having a great love for the furry animal, Roxana also deliberately wanted to divert the conversation about Izekiel.

However, it seemed impossible for her not to tell Damian about her past if she wanted to obtain his help for revenge.

Roxana sighed a few times. She clenched her slightly trembling hands so that she would have the courage to tell him about her past.

"Perhaps my words will sound stupid and nonsensical. However, this—"

"You've reborn six times?" interrupted Damian.

Roxana widened her eyes. She brought her face closer to Damian's and asked in confusion, "How do you know?"

Damian approached Roxana and sat on her lap. His cat whiskers twitched as he spoke like a human.

"When you contracted with me, I could see all your memories and read your mind."

Roxana frowned and pulled at his furry cheeks. "Then why are you still asking?"

Damian dismissed Roxana's hand. "Because I want to see your reaction."

"Oh, then what do you see?" asked Roxana.

"Human, you look scared." Damian's voice sounded even lower as he said, "But also fierce. You don't want to forgive them but seek great revenge."

Damian licked his own lips. "That kind of attitude will make your soul even more delicious when I eat it later."

Damian began to laugh happily as he thought of Roxana's soul falling into the blood-soaked puddle of sin from her revenge. That pool of sin would make her soul go to the bottom of hell and become Damian's most delicious meal.

However, he immediately stopped laughing when Roxana lifted his body into the air, making him unable to step on the ground.

"Stop saying bad things when you still look this cute." Roxana said, "You'll ruin your cuteness."

"Put me down!" Damian pointed his claws at Roxana and squirmed, wanting to break free from her grip.

Roxana, who could not stand the sound of her cat's screams, finally dropped Damian to the floor. She then undressed her nightgown to change.

However, Roxana was shocked to see that her neck and shoulders were covered in reddish marks that contrasted with her fair skin. Some of the marks even looked like bite marks from a wild creature.

Roxana immediately turned to Damian. "Do you want to eat me alive or what?!"

Damian answered innocently. "Oh, come on, I'm not even using my fang."

"You have sharp fang?"

Damian opened his mouth wide. "Do you want to see it in my demon form?"

Roxana held her forehead, which hurt because the demon before her couldn't take her words seriously. His every gesture and word seemed so casual as if he had nothing to fear in this world.

"I'm indeed not afraid of anything."

Roxana exclaimed with a flushed face. "Stop reading my mind!"

Roxana sighed harshly, then no longer cared about Damian as she had to immediately go to the dining hall to meet her father, the Duke of Oberon.

"What will you do to them?" Damian asked, "It seems they will not listen to your refusal."

"My mother said my rights are still fully held by my parents as long as they are alive." Roxana spoke coldly, "But what if they are dead?"

What if she could obtain the title of Duchess and become the head of the Oberon family?

Roxana had thought about that question over and over again in her head. Every time she was reborn, and begged her father not to hand her over to Izekiel.

Her father would always say, "How dare you to oppose the order from the Duke of Oberon?! Despite your status as my daughter, you still have no right to go against my will!"

What if her father was no longer the Duke of Oberon?

Did that mean Roxana could refuse her father's wishes?

Damian's long tail twitched right and left as he heard Roxana's thoughts. He felt very excited when his master was overcome with hatred and anger.

"Do you want them dead?"

Roxana combed her long silver hair and stared at the reflection of her blank-looking eyes in the mirror.

"It depends on their demeanor to me."
