The woman was frightened by the mere stench of my pheromones, and without even needing to lay out threats, she went back in my car, and sang like a canary.
With her hands in-between her thighs, she kept her head down, "Mrs Saint will have me punished if I say a word of what happened last night. It's an unspoken rule not to mention how he's treated to outsiders." She said before she began.
By he, she meant Kian, and if the pack members aren't allowed to say a word, that means they were all aware of what was going on, whatever it was.
"I'm going to be marrying into the family either way, so tell me everything that happened last night." I hardened my tone, letting her know that I didn't have any time to while around.
"If you put it that way, then I'll tell you, but please don't let them know it was me who told you, we Omegas are already not treated fairly, I might loose meal privileges." She told me, giving me an entirely new view on how the Silverfang pack ran business.
I tapped my watch twice, she seemed to take the hint and exhaled sharply keeping her shoulders tensed while she recollected last night's events.
"When Alpha Silvia returned from the seminar, she was upset with the organizer of the yearly seminar for inviting Kian as a mentor. When her parents heard about it, they immediately called him back home for an interrogation."
"As far as we know, Kian had always been stubborn and did as he liked. But last night he obeyed the summon and for the first time since the cancelled engagement, he returned to the packhouse estate."
I arched my brows slightly, the thought had never crossed my mind that Kian was staying with me probably because he had no where else to go.
Still, I didn't think the relationship between him and his family was this strained.
She continued, "Upon his arrival, Mr and Mrs Saint ordered him to apologize to Alpha Silvia, for being the cause of her engagement failure. And secondly for the scandal at the seminar, but that brat Kian…"
Using all of my restraint, I interjected, "Kian," she jerked her shoulders startled by my voice, but quickly recovered and nodded in acknowledgement.
"Go on, what was Kian's response?" What could that kid have possibly said that would make his mother push him down the stairs?
"He refused to do anything he was asked, not about the seminar and definitely not about the engagement. Kian stared Silvia in the eye and said…'Someone like you will never be able to find happiness for herself'. Then, he went on to challenge Mr and Mrs Saint."
Someone like her, huh? What could he mean by that?
"Claiming that his mate would beat Silvia to getting some deal and would ultimately take over our business and pack! Upon hearing those provocative words, Alpha Silvia took him to take back those words, but he refused to, he pointed to everyone and swore that he would definitely have the Alpha stripped of her title. That last provocation must have made Mrs Saint reach her limit. She ended up pushing him down the stairs, as punishment for going against the Alpha." She took a pause to catch her breath, then looked through the window if anyone was coming, only to discover the glass was tinted.
She sighed in relief, then went onto the part that really intrigued me.
"As we all know, it came as a shock when Mr and Mrs Saint announced it would be Kian inheriting the business and not Alpha Silvia. But while he laid on the floor in pain from his sprain leg, he made a bet."
"A bet?" I echoed, she nodded.
"He wagered that if Silvia managed to seal this big deal before his mate he would return to the pack and live just like any other Omega and give up the business to Alpha Silvia. However, he stated that if his mate could pull it off, then he would be rewarded with a copy of all the confidential files that only the Alpha of the pack is allowed to see."
I watched the little missy run into the estate, looking here and there for anyone who would notice her. My eyes stared at her contact on my screen, Gina.
At the very least, I had gone and gotten myself a rat inside who would tip me off on every little development inside the estate. The Silverfang pack was more interesting that the image they showed to the entire world.
Driving away, my mind was refocused on a new goal. There was only one place I should be right now, and that was the address on the frame.
Thankfully, I took a picture of it when he wasn't looking, so I knew where to go. It was pretty far from my current location, which was why it was night by the time I arrived.
I stepped out of my car and walked briskly into the the empty, run-down bar sitting in desolation.
Its broken windows and creaky floors were a testament to years of neglect. Inside, the dimly lit room barren of any customers, dust settled on the worn-out bar counter.
I broke the silence with the creeking sound made whenever my foot kissed the dilapidated floors. The lightbulb above my head flickered from time to time, revealing the cracked brick walls and stains which I could only guess what made them.
This was the place Ceaser was trying to get to? Didn't look like much to me. But then, I had had my fair share of bars and knew a bit about them.
"Building a bar out in the outskirts has to downright be the dumbest thing to do. Which means…" I thought aloud, inspecting the counter which was surprisingly ridden with bullet holes.
"Charming."
I inspected the place thoroughly, checking all the places something might have been hideen, there had to be something here that had Ceaser's interest, something he wouldn't want others to get their hands on.
"That's odd." I quickly shifted my attention to the worn out dart board on the wall. My feet glided over there to take a closer look, and that was when I noticed the different hue sticking out from underneath.
I ripped off the dartboard, and noticed that the wall underneath it was wooden, unlike the rest of the bar which was made of brick walls.
"Now here's something," I curled my fingers into a knuckle and tapped the wall. Just as I suspected, it was hollow, there was a void, and within that void, was what I had come seeking.
I clenched my fingers into a tight fist and smashed through the wall effortlessly, forming a hole through it. I pushed it's debris away, and that's when my eyes landed on the old wooden box hidden inside.
"Bullseye." My lips curled into a satisfied smirk, it looked like this trip wasn't a total waste.
I sat down in my white bathroom robe on the living room sofa, keeping my intense stare on the box. Of course I had opened it, and it's contents were beyond my expectations, it left no wonder why Ceaser was desperate to get his hands on this.
The moment my phone rang, my body reacted to it, aiming for it at the first ring. I brought the screen to my level of sight, only to get disappointed when the name Gwendolyn was displayed.
Why did I think it would be him calling?
Speaking of, he hadn't returned and it was getting late, not that I was staying awake because I was worried for him. He was an adult, and knew how to act like one.
Where he spent the night should be none of my concern….
I picked up, "Did you find out what I wanted you to at the archives?"
"Yes I checked all the birth certificates, and it was just like you said. The names on that list were either forged or of pups who died at birth, none were registered under the Halfmoon pack." Gwendolyn stated, spawning my interest.
"I hope you were discreet about it."
"Of course, I made it look like I was researching somebody." She said, I nodded, "Thank you, we'll talk more tomorrow…" I was saying, only to be cut off by the sound of my doorbell.
My thumb naturally declined the call and my feet sprang swiftly towards the door. It wasn't only I reached to open it, that I realized that I might look like a dog wagging it's tail at it's owners arrival.
The fuck was wrong with me?
I shooed those thoughts out of my head and opened the door, sure enough it was him, his scent betrayed him. A sense of relief washed over me, the pricking feeling at the back of my mind was finally settled.
"Are you just going to stand there and keep me waiting the entire night? Mr Alpha?" Kian asked in his usual inciting tone, his piercing blue gaze as unfriendly as ever.
I rested a hand against the door and curled my lips into half smile, "I can do this all night, pup."
Author's Note: Kian's visit to Damien's pack is getting nearer, how do you guys think it'll go?
