Chereads / Danmachi: Knight and Justice / Chapter 4 - Chapter 3: Conversations

Chapter 4 - Chapter 3: Conversations

He didn't speak everything he left some things unsaid, but he said enough for them to grasp the seriousness of his situation. How he comes from a different world where the threat to humanity is the Grimm, monsters of darkness that are attracted to negative emotions and are controlled by an immortal witch.

About how people can learn to fight and become Huntsmans if people wanted to (he briefly mentioned the aura so they wouldn't be skeptical) and that there are four kingdoms (or there were before there were only three left), in which there are 4 academies (or existed before there were only two left, and with only one running).

He mentions how his academy was destroyed and then he comments how he found out that someone controlled the Grimm, and since then he and his friends travel from kingdom to kingdom to collect the relics that were the only thing that could defeat the witch that was. cursed for immortality by the Brothers.

How they were able to obtain two relics, but when they were on their way to Vacuo's kingdom, they lost both before he teleported to this world along with his friends.

Baldr looked a bit gloomy, though mostly curious about the information. "I see. Let me see if I understand" he sighed and paused before looking seriously at Jaune. "In your world, there are dark creatures called Grimm and the Huntsmans, are they people who ensure people's safety by fighting these creatures?" Baldr seeing Jaune's nod, continues "You decided to be a Huntsman because you want to help people and protect them from the Grimm, so you went to Beacon Academy to become a Huntsman, but after a while, it was destroyed by terrorists, and people wicked, right?"

Jaune looked nervously at the god in front of him. "Yes. The person who led the attack was a cruel and bloodthirsty person named Cinder," He frowned at the reminder.

Baldr was nodding pitying the people who ran the academy, such as the Headmaster of the academy, who cares about his students and the people currently boarding the Hringhorni ship. He can get an idea of how he would feel if the entire school district was destroyed.

Baldr will not let that happen, his district was everything and he will do whatever it takes to keep it up and running, even if the members of the Baldr Familia have to mercilessly slaughter the members of Evilus.

Baldr shook his head to get back to the point. "Then once the Academy was destroyed, you and your friends found out that the attack was more than just an attack. That this person, Cinder, was seeking the magical power of a Maiden, and that she was sent by this immortal Witch named Salem to obtain it. With which she was cursed by the only gods of your world before they abandoned them" Baldr rubbed his forehead in exasperation and exhaustion, and when Jaune gave no sign of contradicting him, Baldr continued "And since then, you have been traveling around the world to prevent Salem and her evil allies from getting these magical powers that are the key to unlocking the relics, while also collecting these relics, because they are the only way to defeat this Salem."

Jaune shuddered, when Baldr said it like this it sounded absurd, he had to admit that he didn't believe everything Qrow told them at first, and he still had doubts about the facts even when Qrow turned into a crow. He could tell that Nora and Ren were skeptical as well, but no one said anything and they just went with the flow.

It wasn't until Haven that he began to believe everything they were told.

Jaune sighed wearily. God, he deserved a good nap, he could still feel his sore muscles even when his aura was trying to heal them. "Yeah. That's what we've been doing."

Baldr nodded "And when you had two of the four relics, you were ambushed by Cinder, and due to the magic of one of the relics, instead of being killed by the magic, you and your friends were teleported from your Remnant world to this world."

Jaune grimaced at the reminder. "Exactly. That would pretty much sum up the situation I'm currently in."

Baldr frowned thoughtfully before looking at Jaune with a soft smile. "You've been through a lot, haven't you, Jaune?"

Jaune blinked at the sudden question, if the god asked about his well-being that meant he. "Do you believe me?" He asked in surprise, ignoring the question that was asked.

Baldr noticed, but didn't say anything, instead, he smiled reassuringly. "Of course. We, gods, know other worlds even if we have never been to one of them. Furthermore, you have not told me any lies about what you have told and you have even shown us proof of what you claim."

Jaune sighed in relief before looking at Leon "And you, do you believe me about what I said?"

Leon looked at Jaune before nodding. "With what you showed I have no choice but to believe you and although I know there is much more you can tell us, I will respect your decision to keep quiet" Leon crossed his arms while Jaune sighed in relief.

"Thank you" Jaune smiled.

Leon shook his head. "You shouldn't thank us yet. Your situation in your world looks pretty bleak. An immortal witch who can create dark monsters at her whim and recover from any injury is a pretty dire situation." Leon smiled sadly. "Although our world is far from perfect, especially in this age."

Jaune remembered the terrorist group Marco told him about. "Right. They have this evil group called Evilus." Jaune sighed as he leaned against the wall of the Headmaster's room. "From what I understand it is causing them a lot of problems"

Baldr shook his head in disagreement. "It's more than just causing trouble. They're spreading fear and panic. Destroying towns and cities while killing every person who lives in them, just for the sheer pleasure of evil."

Jaune frowned. "Not much better than Salem and her allies back then." He muttered to himself before looking at Leon and Baldr with determination. "Is there anything that can be done to help treat this group? I'll be stuck in this place for a long time, I'd have to find a way to return to my world first, so with my free time I'd like to help in whatever way I can. I'm a Huntsman after all, I can't let people get hurt."

Baldr and Leon looked at each other having a conversation that Jaune couldn't catch.

Baldr looked at Jaune. "If you want to help then we won't have any problem. But first, you must know the dangers of the world and the concepts that may be unknown to you"

Baldr began to explain to Jaune about the world they called Gekai. He explained how the gods came down to the world thousands of years ago because they were bored and wanted to entertain themselves. They sealed the Arcanum, which is the source of their divine powers, and created a system with which they can bless mortals. Falna.

Then a god, called Ouranos, used their divinity so that the monsters do not escape from the dungeon. Which is a complex labyrinth located below Babel, specifically in the center of the city of Orario.

People receive the grace of a god, they can get abilities or magic that can be obtained through the history of the person. Although it is quite rare for people to get these abilities in their state.

All people start with their status at level 1 regardless of how strong the individual is. The requirement to level up is to have one of your basic skills at rank D, regardless of level. But the higher the level, the more difficult it is to rank the basic skills. And to level up, the person has to achieve a feat that will impress the gods.

Most people become adventurers for different reasons, such as fame, wealth, getting a harem, and being strong, among other reasons. Adventurers are divided into two classes. The lower-class adventurers and the high-class ones. And the high-class ones can be third, second, and first-class adventurers depending on their status level.

And while you don't need to be an adventurer to level up, it is the fastest way one can level up. Since the adventurers are dedicated to exploring the dungeon, not to mention that the adventurers earn much more money than a civilian. When they collect magic stones and drop items from monsters.

The dungeon is dangerous and the lower the floor, the stronger the monsters, and more of them appear to kill people. That is why many people die in the dungeon because they are not careful enough or due to bad luck.

Baldr also told him about the essentials, about the races and their advantages along with their customs, about the world's currency and economy, and then Baldr started talking about the situation of the entire world.

Like 8 years ago, Zeus and Hera Familia failed to defeat the One-Eyed Black Dragon and are weakened and driven from power by Loki and Freya Familia. As Evilus began to attack the world due to the elimination of the two most powerful Familias in the world.

Jaune made a face before scowling. "I can't believe they did that." He sighed disappointed, but not surprised. "So the strongest people were eliminated from Orario so the terrorist group took advantage of Orario's vulnerability to grow in power" He couldn't help but be a little disgusted.

Why did Loki and Freya Familia expel Zeus and Hera Familia from Orario? Were they petty or did they just have a grudge for them? He didn't know it, but he didn't agree with that act. Although Evilus was probably always going to attack Orario anyway. At least Zeus and Hera Familia won't be drawn into the conflict in their vulnerable state.

Baldr sighed. "Unfortunately this is how most gods act, but despite what Loki and Freya Familia did, they are not bad people... I can only speak for Loki's children though. I can't say much about Freya's children."

Leon nodded in agreement. "We have met the members of Loki Familia, I especially met Braver, the captain of Loki Familia, although he is a good person, he is too formal for my taste." Leon gave an honest opinion. "I would recommend being careful with the members of Freya Familia, they can be quite obsessive and overprotective of their goddess. That's why they take insults to heart" He commented with some nervousness, but without letting it show in his smile. "But they won't attack anyone, so you can rest easy."

Despite what they told him, it did not take away the feeling of anger, he sighed tiredly knowing that there was nothing to do, what was done was done, and all that remains is to concentrate on the present to improve the future, so he goes do exactly that.

"How bad is the situation with Evilus right now?" That was something Jaune can focus on to help these people. Since at the moment, he doesn't have any clue for a method to get back home he would concentrate on helping, even if he had a clue, many people would be in danger or killed by these terrorists, so in his good conscience, he couldn't possibly abandon people in danger.

Also if he abandoned these people and did not help them. What kind of hero would that make him? Not one he was proud of, that was for sure.

Leon thought for a few moments before he let out a tired sigh. "Evilus started with small attacks, but over time they have become bolder and more aggressive and only got worse when the two great Familias were destroyed." Leon commented massaging the bridge of his nose "They have attacked the city of Melen several times to the point that Poseidon Familia had to return from their trip to protect the city. The school district was on a trip a few weeks ago defending the attacks by Evilus around Orario." He explained. "So far Evilus has been calm, very calm. And that calm is disturbing."

Baldr nodded at Leon's words. "We concluded that they are planning something big. And we think that the most affected will be the inhabitants of Orario and its surroundings."

Jaune fell into his thoughts analyzing the information. That Evilus suddenly stopped attacking when they were pressing the adventurers is certainly highly suspicious, but the question begs.

What are they trying to do? What does Evilus want to achieve?

How big is the scale of the attack that they are planning? Beacon level? Or Atlas level? From what he understands, Evilus has first-class adventurers, though he isn't sure how strong first-class adventurers are. So he will have to be cautious against these people if he wants to help.

Jaune shook his head as he pushed the thoughts out of his head. It doesn't make sense for him to think about it right now when he lacks much information. At the moment, he can only give himself vague ideas.

"What would happen if Orario were destroyed? How would it affect the world?" Jaune asked with a frown.

Baldr and Leon frowned at the gravity of the questions.

"That would cause chaos, fear, and uncertainty in the City of Melen and the towns near Orario. If Orario were to be destroyed in its entirety there would be nothing to stop the monsters in the dungeon from escaping from the interior to the surface, putting in danger danger to all the cities and towns of the world." Leon replied seriously. "Not to mention, the dungeon is the largest source of production in the entire world. Both technological and economic. Many towns, villages, and cities would be affected, especially those around Orario."

That was... much worse than he would have imagined they were telling him that the apocalypse was going to unleash.

He thinks of Beacon when things were too quiet before the evil burst their bubble of happiness and gave them a taste of cruel reality. He thinks of Atlas, that despite his best efforts, he was not strong enough, nor smart enough to prevent Atlas from being destroyed.

His fists clenched and his gloves crunched. Seeing that he was silent for a long time, he took a deep breath and commented. "Have measures been taken to prevent Orario from being destroyed?"

Leon shook his head sadly. "As much as we would like to help Orario City, there are too many attacks around the towns and villages near Orario. Evilus seems to be trying to keep all the Familias around Orario away and they can help Orario with reinforcement." Leon made a disgusted face. "Attacks from outside Orario are just as destructive as those inside Orario"

Baldr nodded seriously. "The school district has tried to reinforce Orario several times, but every time we try, Evilus attacks with more force outside of Orario, so we are forced to defend and neutralize them" Baldr sighed. "Though I did ask Artemis that if she is presented with the opportunity to reinforce Orario, she will take it while we focus on defending the cities, villages, and towns outside of Orario."

"We can only focus on defending the cities outside of Orario and trust that Orario's forces are enough to neutralize the Evilus threat" Leon commented.

Jaune winced at that, it was obvious that Evilus was not just any terrorist group. It was obvious that they had spies if every time they went to reinforce Orario, there were serious attacks, it was too much to be a coincidence. But these spies could not belong to the school district, the security despite being from ancient times was quite strict. So they would have to be hiding in the City of Melen in plain sight. Just like Cinder did with Beacon.

Should he stay and help the surroundings of Orario? Or should he help Orario with everything he can? The Aura could certainly be a great help to the protective people of Orario.

But the aura would also be a problem for him. Not only would it make the gods take an interest in him due to an ability that virtually anyone could unlock, but also by being an unknown wild card, he would get unwanted attention, such as being one of Evilus' priorities to deal with. Not to mention that the world is still unknown to him, and this puts him at a great initial disadvantage.

Besides, can he even help with how weak he is? Will it make things worse if he helps? Will he fail once again like he always has?

Doubt, fear, and hesitation flickered through Jaune's thoughts.

A hand on his shoulder snapped him out of his thoughts, Jaune looked at Leon who was giving him a reassuring smile.

He wouldn't hesitate right now. He has to focus on the task at hand, get stronger, and be a man Pyrrha would be proud of.

If Penny were still alive, she wouldn't hesitate to help, she wouldn't hesitate to sacrifice herself for the greater good. It's the least he could do for her, after what he did to her.

"I don't know how helpful I can be, but I still want to help as much as I can. It won't be different from what I do at home, I mean... I want to be a hero like my ancestors were, like my father was, and continue his legacy. That's why I decided to be a Huntsman. To be able to help as many people as possible." Jaune looked at both of them with determination.

Leon smiled satisfied with his honesty, Baldr instead looked at him seriously. "You will go through difficult times, things may not go your way at a certain time, and you may make mistakes. Do you still want to continue down that path? Aren't you afraid?"

Jaune swallowed nervously but nodded. "Of course I am afraid. But we must not let our fears dominate us and determine our lifestyle. I can't turn back now, I can't stop, I owe it to all my comrades who passed away." Jaune's hand clenched into a fist. "That's why I need to get stronger, to be there for my friends like they were for me"

Baldr nodded in satisfaction and smiled happily for the first time. "Something tells me that you will greatly help in this dark age. So I will help you establish yourself and have the opportunity to grow"

Leon looked at his god Baldr. "Yes, I can give my honest opinion Baldr-sama"

Baldr looked at Leon and nodded and gestured for him to continue.

Leon smiled in relief before looking at Jaune. "To be honest with you Jaune, though I would like you to join our Familia and be part of the school district. It would be better if you go to Orario. I'm sure they would need a lot more help than we do, plus it would be easier for you to become stronger if you live in Labyrinth City," Leon paused to cross his arms before continuing. "The school district together with the help of Artemis Familia will be able to counter any attack from Evilus, but I can't say the same for Orario despite his strong adventurers. I would feel much more relieved if you lend your help to Orario"

To say that Jaune was surprised would be an understatement. To think that Leon would make an extremely important request to him, even though they've only known each other for a few hours.

Jaune could only agree to the request, if they are confident enough to assure him that they can counter the attacks, then Jaune would have to trust them. "I'll do my best to help the people of Orario, Leon" Jaune smiled confidently.

Leon sighed in relief before nodding "Okay, thank you then Jaune"

Jaune suddenly remembered something and looked at the god Baldr. "By the way, god Baldr. Do you know of a way for me to return to my world?"

Baldr thought about it carefully. "There may be a way, if a god uses his Arcanum it is likely that he can return you to your world, but it is an unlikely method since the god will immediately return to heaven after sending you to your world. The vast majority of the gods will not agree to the request, because that means losing their source of entertainment."

Jaune frowned and sighed in disappointment, but not at all surprised. "I see, so it's an option, even if I can't convince anyone." Jaune shook his head before continuing. "I am grateful for the information, god Baldr."

Leon gave him a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, Jaune, I'll try to research a method that can return you and your friends to your world." Leon paused briefly as a thought came to him. "By the way, do you have any idea where your friends might be? I understand that you parted ways with them."

Jaune frowned and tried to say something without mentioning time travel "Well, I'm the only one in this world at the moment. I don't understand all the rules about the relic that brought me to this world." He answered without telling a lie and then he sighed. "I think the time was somehow altered by some strange magic, so I have to wait until they come to this world. Or at least that's what I think" Jaune commented referring to the strange tree with clock fruits.

Leon sighed. "I see. If you can give us the descriptions we'll be on the lookout for people who suddenly appear near the City of Melen."

Jaune accepted, so he began to describe the appearance of his friends. Baldr, Leon, and Jaune spent more time talking about Jaune's preparation and about Orario City, how the economy worked right now, and which were the most prominent Familias in Labyrinth City.

Leon and Baldr were going to give him a basic kit for graduate students or for when they go on long missions. Also, they gave him an amount of Valis so that he can survive for at least 2 weeks in Orario if he uses his money well. Not to mention, they let him keep the Gekai world map.

In return Leon asked if he could get a sample of Dust from their world, to see if they could replicate it with some adventurers who have the Mystery ability. Jaune didn't see any problem, plus he was only ordering one vial of each. Light and Gravity respectively.

"Are you sure you don't want to repair your sword before you go to Orario?" Leon asked with concern. He didn't mention anything about the blood-encrusted Crocea Mors, though Jaune could tell Leon gave him a sad look.

Jaune shook his head, they both said goodbye to the god Baldr who was going to be busy with a lot of paperwork, so they both left the Headmaster's room, then left the ship's central building, Breidablik.

They were near the entrance and exit of the Hringhorni ship.

"No...I don't want to fix it, it's...it's personal I guess" Jaune murmured sadly and guiltily.

Leon looked at him but didn't comment on the subject, instead placing a hand on Jaune's shoulder and commenting. "If things don't work out for you in Orario, or you have difficulties for some reason. You are always welcome at Baldr Familia, I'm sure you would fit in very well in that case." Leon took his hand off his shoulder as they reached the exit of the Hringhorni Ship. "So I wish you luck Jaune, and I hope you find an answer to all your doubts and fears in the City of Orario."

Jaune smiled gratefully. "Thanks again, I'm not sure what I would have done without all of you" He got off the boat and looked at Leon who was still at the entrance of the Hringhorni boat looking at him with a smile.

"Don't mention it. Besides, I'm sure you would have found something." Leon waved him off.

With a final nod, Jaune said goodbye to Leon, and having a destination set, Jaune Arc would arrive in Orario soon.

Once he was out of the fishing district, he arrived at the place where Leon told him that he can pay to be taken directly to Orario. Jaune has never been in a carriage, although he should be like a car only slower and with horses.

After he is almost charged an arm, just for the ride to Orario much to his chagrin. Jaune was finally heading to Orario which was three kilometers from the City of Melen, so it will be a bit of a long journey. So he took the opportunity to fix his Scroll.

Once Jaune finished fixing his scroll, fortunately, nothing serious had been damaged. Jaune leaned his head against the wall of the carriage to take a short rest, luckily it was night, and most likely he would arrive very early in the morning.

It wasn't long before sleep claimed Jaune Arc.

Six days until the Great Feud.
