Chapter 28 - Master David (2)

Chapter 28: Master David (2)

"The truth is that everyone suspects that the demons are from the chasm… but we have no means to confirm that, and no one can really help us. We're stranded." Aric explained the village's viewpoint of the demon problem, looking more troubled than ever.

Perhaps, Beelzebub's attitude and the words he'd said to Mr. Wetherell had washed a lot of his concerns regarding David's demonic origins.

Bruno also spoke nothing but praise about his teacher…

Therefore, Aric spoke to Beelzebub as though he was his master as well.

"If we can confirm that the demons have found a way to escape their prison, then we will be able to call the heavenly lineage from above us and have them fix everything. But our village head can't risk that move… if by any chance we are wrong, our village will cease to exist alongside our lives. We are nothing but ants to heavenly born." Aric cast his eyes low and sighed, perfectly aware of his low birth.

Mr. Wetherell weighed in a few cents. "I fear that the word of us two won't be enough to convince the village head. We're talking about the fate of our whole village, after all. Even if we believe Master David, the same can't be said about others."

Calling heavenly lineage from above was something Beelzebub wanted to avoid… even though it was really unavoidable at some point. He kept that to himself, for Gloria's life was on the line. In fact, if he came with proof of the demons' identities, he would lose all hope of reuniting with her.

Beelzebub carefully thought of his next words. "We'll prepare for now. I must first see your vault of resources, Wetherell, then, I will only be able to decide on the next move against the demons. It'd be good to have some identity as well. I need to wander safely around the village without villagers suspecting me. The same goes for demons."

Aric and Wetherell smiled. "That's easy."

Beelzebub nodded. "Good. I'll wait for you to finish your task, then. Wetherell, tomorrow at noon, I'll introduce you to the grand world of alchemy."

"Yes! Ah, thank you, Master David! It's my honor!" Wetherell bowed, expressed his joy through words and body movement by bowing more than once and wearing an uncontrollable gleeful smile, and then finally excused himself to prepare to welcome the demon to his abode.

The four walls of Bruno's basement now contained only the demon, his father, and him.

"May I know what the demons did to you, Master David?"

"They hurt me."

"I see."

Bruno silently watched the scene, then gathered all courage to gather Beelzebub's attention.

Awkwardly scratching his cheek, Bruno asked his friend. "C-Can I still call you a teacher?"

Beelzebub curved his lips into a smile. "Always, Bruno. We've gone through a lot on our adventure, right? For example, this little one carried you until you woke up."

Following Beelzebub's eyes, Bruno turned his head to the… enslaved soul…

"How was his back?" David asked with a grin.

Bruno clutched his hair with both hands and stuttered, his lips bobbing wordlessly… his head overheated now that he imagined sleeping on this demon! It was nothing short of terrifying sleep!

"…I can't… recall…"

"Haha!"

Two older men laughed earnestly…

And when they returned from the basement, three of them received a scolding from the lady of the house.

Three heads had a bump bulging out…

"D-Dad… Mom just hit the demon with a rolling pin…."

"I see what she meant by saying that Master David is a gentleman."

Beelzebub had a meal and bath and was now alone in his room.

He would love to fall asleep, but it was not a time for that. He had to adjust his plans after taking in Mr. Wetherell as his disciple, gaining access to all his resources and workplace. Moreover, with Aric by his side, Beelzebub also soon would roam the village without any prior schemes beforehand.

It meant that he'd be able to hunt ghosts much easier. They were his precious resources.

'Demons of Anubis… I haven't spent a lot of time exploring ghosts haunting the village, but their appearance seems less likely to be connected to the demons of the chasm…' Beelzebub had a few suspicions related to ghosts winding the Williard Village.

The main argument that convinced Beelzebub was that of ghosts being too free. They had their own will and could do whatever they wanted.

The demons had never contacted them. And if they did, wouldn't they be able to guide humans outside the village to feed on them in a safer location?

Wouldn't it be easier to leave the chasm in this way? Why would the demons use some real projections, which were nothing but sacrifices related to their real bodies?

Those arguments persuaded Beelzebub and brought him to another possibility, which was more legit.

'The keys Gloria gathered are the reason for ghosts to be in the Williard Village. That has to be it… those ghosts were always meant to be my resource and power.' A deep sense of possessiveness dipped into the dark abyss of Beelzebub's eyes.

Everything his maids worked for… was meant to be either his or theirs.

No one else.

Beelzebub lifted up his upper body and sat down, opening his skill list.

He had to unlock the last element closely related to him — water.
