Kai awoke in a bright, white room. At first, he thought he was dead and had ascended to the great beyond. But as his eyes adjusted, he realized that he was in a hospital.
He tried to sit up, but his body was weak. He looked around the room and saw his friends gathered around him.
"How are you feeling?" asked Lyra, concern etched on her face.
Kai croaked out a reply, his throat dry from disuse. "I'm...I'm okay."
The group filled him in on what had happened after he had passed out. They had managed to defeat the monsters and retrieve the crystal. But they had paid a heavy price.
Lyra had been badly injured, and the others had used all their healing abilities to try and save her. It was only when they stumbled upon a group of wandering healers that she had been saved.
Kai felt a pang of guilt for being the one to cause so much trouble. But his friends reassured him that it wasn't his fault.
As he lay there, recovering from his injuries, Kai began to reflect on the journey they had been on. He thought about the places they had seen, the battles they had fought, and the friends they had made.
And as he looked out the window, watching the sun set over the horizon, he couldn't help but feel a sense of peace. He knew that there were still challenges ahead, but he also knew that he was surrounded by friends who would face them with him.
And so, with a newfound sense of determination, Kai vowed to continue on his journey, wherever it may take him. For he knew that the great beyond was waiting, and he was ready to face it with open arms.
