Chapter 53 - Prayer for Safety

'Mama… The light… The light Mama, can you turn it off? It hurts so much.

Does it, baby? Does it really make the skin boil as dearly as you so speak of?

Yes… Please turn it off Mama… Please.

I'll do so in just a minute, sweety… but, I've been getting worried lately.'

Lord, You watch over me-

'About what, Mama?'

You are the shade at my right hand;

'You're father, has he seemed different lately? Does he go off during the recitals for a period of time… with someone else?

I don't think I can tell you.

Why?'

the sun will not harm me by day,

'He said it's okay and that it's nothing bad.

Well then, what was he doing?'

nor the moon by night.

'Nothing bad, I suppose.

If it's nothing bad, then you should be able to tell me, right?

Mama… the light, please, it burns.'

You will keep me from all harm-

'Just tell me what he did, then we can deal with that light.

Bu-

There's no "buts" in this house mister. Now tell me what your father has been doing.'

You will watch over my life;

'Ah, well… Just some talkin'.

Talking? With whom?

Mama… it hurts so much... if you could for just a momen-

Enough about the light; tell me who he's been talking to, mister!'

You will watch over my coming and going

'H-He-He's been speaking to some la-

"MOM! What are you doing!

KAGE! Can you hear me? Are you alright?"'

both now and forevermore.

Did the light burn so brilliantly on your flesh, child? Could it possibly have left marks welded deep into the essence of your anatomy? Would you bear the same excruciating pain again and again for the sake of a familial bond?

Did the prayer shield your soul in such painful plight?

Why must He on most high be thee guiding light?

Who is to guess, but only wonder in the sanctity away from such splendor.

For the place where which resides everlasting heritage is so painful. A pain that cannot be tamed but braced with gritted teeth.

Perhaps, this is to be a pain suffered by all that can stand the emotions brought by the rising sun?

Time tells all endings, let this be another.

Both now and forevermore.
