While Fan Xun is asleep, he is forced to replay back the shocking moments that had happened a few minutes prior. Minutes? Hours prior? Days ago? He couldn't tell. There's no way to tell the time while in a dream sequence. There's a few scenes that are continuously fed to him over and over again.
The moment where he can't stop Maruza holding the lady hostage. Fan Xuns hallucination is warping that moment to actually show Maruza shooting the lady dead. In the beginning, he can't bare to watch it happen. Somewhere in the middle, he deems himself in need of punishing so he starts actually watching it happen, over and over again. As time goes, Fan Xun begins to remark every detail he can about that moment of his hallucinations. From the hostages face, to her eyes, to Maruzas eyes, and then to her unwavering hands and fingers holding the pistol master.
Then, there's always the dead but distant glaring eyes from Maruza, staring into Fan Xuns soul. He almost wants to believe that she's judging him in some way. Is he crazy for thinking that? In the same situation, could someone like him think the same thing?
And then, finally, there's the reporters. This time, they already know that he helped let in one of the terrorists through the main gate. Now, they belittle him into the ground. Out of all 3, this breaks both his pride and any hope of redemption.
Suddenly, Fan Xun feels this sudden urge to wake up. Its not him doing it voluntarily. Like he's being forced to do it by something. His ears begin to ring and his heart quickens sharply.
