Chapter 28 - Portal

The next day, Hanako, Hina, and Tenshi gather around a secluded table in the school's library to discuss their plans. Hina, wearing the hair clip that was their connection to Kageonna, looked determined but also somewhat apprehensive as she prepared to act as the vessel for the spirit's guidance. Hanako and Tenshi watched her with a mixture of anticipation and concern, aware that their next steps would be crucial in their mission to save Ryu. As the minutes ticked by, Hina's demeanor shifted. Her eyes took on a distant, almost ethereal quality, and her voice, when she spoke, was no longer her own. It was the voice of Kageonna, a spirit who had transcended into the hair clip, now using Hina's body as her vessel. "I know where the portal is," She paused, "But I lack the strength to open it."

The revelation lingered in the room, casting a complex shadow over their mission. The knowledge of the portal's location was a crucial step forward, but it also unveiled the harsh reality of their situation. Opening the portal was no simple task; it required a level of strength and energy that Kageonna currently lacked. The trio exchanged glances, their collective determination unyielding. Hina, the vessel for Kageonna, had offered them a lead—a path toward Ryu—but it was clear that their journey would be fraught with challenges and dangers.

Kageonna, through Hina, shared her knowledge of the portal with the group. "I once witnessed an angel open the portal," she revealed, her voice still carrying a sense of urgency. "Tenshi, can you open it?" Tenshi considered her question, his expression thoughtful. "Opening the portal is a complex task," he explained. "Usually, the strength of one angel alone is insufficient. It typically requires at least two angels, one of which should be among the high ranks, and even then, success is not guaranteed." Hanako's disappointment was palpable, her shoulders slumping as she realized the magnitude of the challenge ahead. Hina, too, couldn't hide her frown, and the sense of frustration settled upon them. But Kageonna's voice, still echoing from her, carried a sense of determination. "You killed me," she stated, her words laced with a mix of accusation and hope. "I'm sure you have enough strength to open a portal. We have to try." Tenshi's voice was filled with regret as he apologized, his gaze reflecting the weight of the situation. "I'm sorry," he said, "but opening the portal alone is just not possible. We need to find another way."

Kageonna's response held a hint of annoyance as she suggested, "Why not call some of your angel friends to help you? Surely, you have allies who can assist." Tenshi contemplated the suggestion, a heavy silence lingering in the air. After a moment of deep thought, he finally spoke. "The chances of me opening the portal alone might be higher than convincing an angel to help me do it," he admitted. "And, even if someone were to agree, I might get into serious trouble if any other angels found out." The reality of their situation was clear. The delicate balance between the two worlds, celestial and demonic, was fraught with tension and distrust. Seeking assistance from his angelic peers posed a significant risk, one that could jeopardize their mission and Tenshi's own standing among the angels.

Hanako's disappointment cast a shadow over their impromptu meeting in the library. Her determination to rescue Ryu was unwavering, and yet, it seemed that the challenges before them were insurmountable. She looked at Tenshi with a plea in her eyes. "Is there any other way, Tenshi? Anything we can do, even if it comes at a great cost?" she implored, the words tinged with a sense of desperation. Tenshi found himself in a moment of contemplation, the weight of their mission pressing heavily upon him. The thought of Ryu's safety, his friend's well-being, was a constant source of motivation. It was this unwavering dedication that made him promise, "I think I know someone who might be able to help."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An eerie hush seemed to envelop Hanako, Tenshi and Hina's surroundings as they ventured deeper into the dark and desolate forest. The trees, towering sentinels in the night, stretched their gnarled branches overhead, creating a canopy of shadows that obscured the moon's pale glow. The air was thick with a sense of foreboding, and the only sounds that broke the silence were the occasional rustle of leaves and the distant call of unseen creatures. The forest's underbrush was a tangle of thorny bushes and dense undergrowth, making each step a cautious one. The ground beneath their feet was uneven, with gnarled roots and rocks that threatened to trip them in the obsidian darkness. Shafts of silvery moonlight occasionally pierced through the thick canopy, casting ghostly beams upon the forest floor, revealing fleeting glimpses of eerie and enigmatic beauty.
As they continued their trek toward the cave that housed the portal to the demon realm, the forest seemed to hold its breath, as though it were aware of the dangerous journey the trio was undertaking. Their determination to save Ryu fueled their steps, propelling them deeper into the heart of the haunting woodland, where the unknown awaited. Kageonna was guiding them through Hina's body through the woods, taking lefts and rights every so often and making it hard for Hanako and Tenshi to keep up, "Come on, we're almost there. Make sure not to trip on nothing and die Hanako" The spirit giggled, Hanako scoffed as they kept going.
The trio arrived at the mouth of the cave, its yawning entrance shrouded in darkness and mystery. The rocky walls glistened with a damp sheen, and the cool, musty air within sent shivers down their spines. As they ventured deeper into the cavern, the path sloped gradually downward, and the walls seemed to close in around them, the tunnel taking on a claustrophobic feel. The ambient light from outside grew fainter, and they found themselves relying on Hina's enhanced senses to navigate the labyrinthine cave. Shadows danced along the rough-hewn walls, casting eerie, shifting shapes that seemed to whisper secrets of the underworld. The steady drip of water echoed through the cave's depths, reverberating like a mournful dirge.
After navigating the cave's treacherous depths, the trio reached the portal room. The chamber was a stark contrast to the winding tunnels they had traversed, bathed in an otherworldly, dim blue light. The walls appeared to be etched with ancient symbols, and a peculiar sense of anticipation hung in the air. The center of the room held the closed portal, a formidable stone archway encrusted with mysterious runes, its edges pulsating with an eerie, ethereal glow. The portal's presence was both enchanting and foreboding, its magic an enigma waiting to be unraveled. It felt like a bridge between two worlds, a gateway to the unknown. As they gazed upon it, the trio's reactions were a mix of anticipation and apprehension. Hanako's eyes were wide with a mixture of hope and uncertainty, her determination evident in her furrowed brow. Tenshi, with his innate knowledge of the celestial realms, wore a thoughtful expression, as though contemplating the best course of action.
With a determined stride, The angel positioned himself at the very heart of the portal room, his presence radiating with celestial authority. The cavern's atmosphere seemed to hang in rapt anticipation, as if nature itself held its breath, waiting for the unfolding of an extraordinary event. The room's walls, adorned with cryptic runes, echoed with Tenshi's voice, an ancient incantation brimming with power. As the words filled the chamber, the cave's ethereal glow intensified, casting dancing shadows that seemed to bow in homage to the unfolding ritual. With each syllable of the incantation he chanted, the cave itself seemed to come alive, bathing the chamber in a radiant, ethereal light. The very air hummed with the power of his words, a celestial melody resonating through the subterranean depths.
From the heart of this resplendent luminescence, a figure materialized, emerging like a vision from the celestial realms. This was Amane, an angelic friend summoned by Tenshi in their hour of need. Amane's presence was nothing short of breathtaking, a sight that captured the essence of otherworldly beauty. His most striking feature was his grand, immaculate wings, each feather aglow with a radiance that rendered them almost translucent. Amane's hair, a cascade of purest blond, flowed gracefully around his shoulders, catching the play of light and shadow that danced within the cave's depths. His eyes, a profound shade of gentle green, held wisdom that seemed to transcend mortal understanding, a reflection of the ages he had witnessed. Adorning Amane's head was a resplendent golden halo, casting a warm and soothing light around him, an unmistakable symbol of his celestial nature. As he materialized into the cave, his presence exuded an aura of tranquility and serenity.
Hanako's eyes widened with amazement, her breath catching in her throat as she witnessed the spell's effects. The sight of Amane, with his resplendent wings, golden halo, and serene countenance, was nothing short of mesmerizing to her. Hina, still caught in the moment of Amane's arrival, found herself blushing slightly in the presence of the angelic figure. Amane's ethereal beauty and celestial grace had left an undeniable impression on her. As he looked around the portal room, taking in the surroundings with an air of serenity, Hina's heart raced just a bit faster.
Amane walked closer to Tenshi with an aura of serenity that seemed to quell the cavern's latent tension. He looked around the portal room with a contemplative expression before turning his gaze to Tenshi, who stood with a determined air about him. With an air of calm curiosity, Amane softly inquired, "Is this the place where we agreed to meet, Tenshi?" His voice resonated like a gentle melody in the hallowed cave, an echo of their purpose and the path that lay ahead. "You shouldn't be here, It's not safe" The blond angel's gaze shifted beyond Tenshi, catching sight of Hina, who stood with a mixture of awe and admiration in her eyes. Her blush lingered slightly as she met the celestial figure's gaze. Then, there was Hanako, her smile both welcoming and filled with a sense of relief. "Hina, Hanako, this is Amane, my dear friend and an angel of considerable renown. Amane, these are Hanako and Hina, the human companions I've told you about."Amane nodded at Hanako and Hina with a reserved demeanor, his celestial countenance giving away little in terms of emotion. His gaze shifted to Tenshi, an unspoken question lingering in his eyes.
Tenshi, understanding the urgency of their mission, wasted no time. "Amane, we've called upon you for a reason," he began, his voice tinged with a sense of gravity. "We need your help to open the portal to the demon realm. Ryu, a dear friend, is trapped there, and we aim to bring him back." Amane's eyes widened in shock and confusion at his fellow angel's unreasonable request. Amane's reaction was one of stark disbelief, and his eyes bore an expression of growing anger. The very idea of Tenshi's request had offended the celestial principles that he held dear. "Tenshi," he began with a tone of anger in his voice, "how could you even consider such a reckless deviation from our celestial laws? The consequences of your proposal are profound." Tenshi's voice wavered, his plea undeterred even in the face of Amane's growing anger. "I understand the risks, Amane, but I cannot simply stand by while Ryu suffers. Please, consider this request carefully. I will bare the severe consequences of my actions later, I promise."
"Tenshi, I cannot fathom how you could stoop so low as to entertain the notion of aiding demons. Your actions could tarnish our celestial reputation. Helping demons? This is unthinkable." Tenshi's voice remained resolute, his plea unwavering even in the face of Amane's growing anger. "I understand the risks, Amane, But because of this demon, I managed to complete my mission here. I must return the favor even if it costs me" Hanako and Hina's eyes met, wearing the same look of worry and fear. Amane's anger continued to surge as he retorted, "No, I refuse to aid you with this matter. My reputation and rank are a more important then this demon friend of yours." "And how do you plan on helping him escape? Are you suggesting that you'll face the Demon King and his subordinates alone?"
Amane, having delivered his verdict, made a move to depart before letting his friend answer, his displeasure evident. But before he could cast a spell to return, Hina, her face contorted with anger, stepped forward, her resolve unwavering. She raised her voice, challenging Amane's decision. "You may prioritize your rank, but we prioritize saving a friend. Are you willing to let an innocent suffer, regardless of their origins?" Amane, on the verge of responding to Hina, found himself halted as she pressed on, her words carrying a force of conviction. "Angel or demon, it doesn't matter to us," Hina continued, her gaze unwavering and her voice resolute. "We will not let our friend suffer while you stand by and uphold these rigid principles. If you won't help, we'll find another way."
As Hina's fervent words echoed through the dimly lit cave, Amane found himself taken aback by the sheer intensity of her conviction. Her impassioned plea stirred something deep within him, momentarily unsettling the stoic facade he had maintained. The cavern's shadows danced around them as he hesitated, a subtle flicker of doubt coursing through his otherwise unwavering gaze. For an angel like Amane, steeped in centuries of tradition, this encounter was a departure from the norm. He was unaccustomed to humans who would dare to speak up to celestial beings. And as he hesitated, a subtle admiration began to bloom in his heart, a silent acknowledgment of the courage that resided within this unassuming mortal.
In that hushed, cavernous chamber, a momentous shift occurred as Amane, his typically stoic countenance softening ever so slightly, extended an olive branch of hope. A gentle smile graced his lips, and the atmosphere in the cave seemed to shift from one of tension to one of burgeoning camaraderie. His voice, though as soft as the rustling of leaves in a gentle breeze, resonated with newfound determination. "Very well, I shall help you open the portal." The trio stood there, initially taken aback by the sudden change in Amane's disposition. Tenshi's eyes widened in astonishment at this unexpected twist, and he found himself grappling with the reality that the celestial boundaries, rigid and unyielding, might bend for the sake of a dear friend. Hina's features transitioned from a mask of defiance to one of joyful relief, and she beamed a warm smile at Amane, her earlier anger dissipating. As for Hanako, her eyes glistened with teardrops of gratitude, and she felt a surge of hope that they were one step closer to reuniting with Ryu.
