WOOOOOSH

I opened my eyes and felt a beaming light filling my vision. I was currently laying down in the middle of a thick forest.

One by one, my senses started to return to me, and my body felt a rush of adrenaline.

My head also started to ache uncontrollably, so much so that I had to let out a whimper in pain.

"AAAGHHH!"

A flood of memories started to roll into my mind, making itself at home.

I began to remember memories that I never knew in the first place, and I began to understand what kind of position the previous owner of the body was in as if I was watching a movie play in 3rd person.

These memories felt foreign but nostalgic at the same time, and I soon knew the whole life story behind myself.

"No way... I just reincarnated into the 'World of Venir'!"

"Holy smokes, does that mean there is magic and stuff here then!?"

After I said that aloud, a sound appeared in my head. It didn't feel like it was my thoughts, but it felt like it was read aloud somehow in my mind.

[That is correct.]

"UAAAGGHH! Holy shit. Who the hell are you!"

[Rude. I am the system, a byproduct made from the Akashic Records. I will act as your guide here in this world. You can ask me anything and everything, and I will answer to the best of my ability.]

"Umm okay... so, is this an exact copy of the 'WOV' game I played?"

[Hmmm... It is better to say that the game is an exact copy of-]

"STATUS!"

[What? I haven't even taught y-]

DING

===STATUS===

STRENGTH: F-

SPEED: F-

AGILITY: F-

STAMINA: F-

MANA: F

CHARM: F

OVERALL: F-

===SKILLS===

INNATE SKILL:

-[Monarch's Facade] ('???????' Type) (Low Understanding) {FIRST ADVANCEMENT}

{Warps reality and influences others that you have a majestic and respected image.}

NORMAL SKILL:

{NONE}

======

I got up and started to scroll through the status screen that had popped up in front of me, and it seemed that my stats were mostly in a bleak state.

In this world, as I remember it, there are 10 ranks, each having 3 subranks of their own. Well... except for G rank, which showed that you were a normal human who had not awakened.

The ranking system ranged from G rank to SSS, and all awakened humans started at [F-] rank.

[No no no no... Slow down there bud... How did you already know this?]

"Uhm, well, this status screen also appeared in the original game, so I assumed that it was the same. That and the fact this situation had always occurred in the novels I have read before."

[Oh.]

[Is there still a need for me to explain the functions of the system then?]

"Not really... let me guess, is there also a shop function, a storage function and an appraisal function?"

[Haahh... Yeah.]

"I thought so."

I was currently chatting with the system while I looked through my stats and the other features of the system. The layout was already pretty intuitive, so it wasn't hard.

"Oh, can I also know if this system window is visible to others?"

[It is not.]

"And do other people also have access to their own system?"

[No, but they can buy technology to achieve virtually the same effect.]

"Hmmm..."

[I must say, you adapt rather quickly...]

As I was scrolling through the system window, I noticed the skill window beside my status screen.

"[Monarch's Facade]..." I muttered aloud in confusion.

"Huh...? What the hell is this innate skill?"

An innate skill in 'WOV' was usually a 'unique' skill that everyone is born with, and these skills are normally an 'attack' type or a 'defence' type.

One can gain more innate skills through 'advancements', where the user would have to reach full understanding of the original skill, and then they would be enlightened to gain another chained skill, which is usually linked to the original innate skill.

There were only four 'advancements' you can make, meaning that the strongest people had at most four innate skills.

Innate skills were used much more than normal skills since a skill needs to be learnt through a skill book. And of course, these were expensive as fuck.

Furthermore, these innate skills had no cooldowns, no restrictions and no levels. So they could make or break the game.

Innate skills were bound to the soul, and if one was lucky, one could find a normal skill book from a dungeon.

So, I was confused as to why my status didn't tell me whether it was an 'attack' or 'defence' type. And, what's more, is that I don't even know if I can fight with that!

[As you had received the Goddess' blessing, you have been given a special innate skill.]

"That doesn't explain much."

[Well I'm sorry 'Mr know-it-all', I thought you already knew everything about this place.]

"This shit."

After bickering with the system, I had come to realise that I don't even know how I look yet, and that my name was no longer...

Wait, I don't even remember my old name.

All I thought of myself was as now Vincent Dracyian.

"Wait, system, could you pull up a mirror for me?"

[Very well, but it will cost you some Axens.]

Axens were the currency used by everyone in the game and in this world, around £2 was equal to 1 Axen if I remember correctly.

"How much do I have?"

[By carrying over the balance you had in your previous world, I would estimate that you have around 1502AX left.]

"So are you using the same currency in your system shop as in the real world?"

[Yes, when you make a payment, a part of your money will actually be taken as well.]

"And what happens if I sell something in the system shop?"

[That is not possible.]

'So the system shop is just a convenient grocery store for me then...'

"Damn it, go on then, use the money."

[Very well.]

VWHOOOM

A big black mirror materialised out of thin air and was shoved in my face, and so I could see my entire body.

[Your balance is 1500AX.]

After backing away a bit, I took some time to marvel at my body.

Even if my charm was only at 'F' rank, it was already several times better than a normal human.

"Oh wow... I look much better than I did in my past life..."

In my new body, I had a pale white face with sharp crimson eyes, which hid behind my long silver hair.

"I don't remember ever playing with this character in the game, actually, I think I just unlocked him before dying."

[How pathetic.]

"Shut up."

"Anyway, where even am I...?"

[Currently, you are in Darkwood Forest.]
