Chapter 1 - Prologue: Awakening

*Bringg, bringg* the alarm clock rang and rang, *bringg, bri-*

Orpheus slammed it down, finally making the alarm clock quiet as he tossed to the side to fall back asleep.

"Kid, we can't sleep in today, we unfortunately still have to go to school."

Orpheus groaned trying to ignore this voice, he didn't like to listen to him much anyway.

"Orpheus wake up!" the voice shouted.

"Alright, alright, I'm up" Orpheus pulled himself out of bed begrudgingly and started to pick out his clothes for the day. "I don't remember you being this bossy Alter, what's up with you?"

"You must be stupid if you forgot, we have a major test first period! The last thing we need is to be too tired and fail it."

Orpheus put on his clothes and began to brush his teeth and get ready for the day "Stop being paranoid" He begins walking downstairs, getting himself breakfast while looking over his papers scattered on the counter "You know we're smart, we'll be able to pass no matter what."

Alter scoffed, "Whatever you say, kid, let's just hurry up and eat, I still want to try and get there early."

"Yeah yeah" Orpheus groaned "You're definitely the boss" He finishes his breakfast and makes his way for the door "Bye Mom, Bye dad" he whispered.

As Orpheus began walking to school nothing but thoughts entered his mind, he wasn't new to this, he always had an active brain, no matter the activity, place, or time he always had some type of thought in his mind, that's where he was a majority of the time, stuck in his mind.

"Now how do you factor again?" Alter questioned.

"You can use the uhh x shape thing with the A times C and it adds to B".

"Maybe we won't fail this thing after all" Alter chuckled.

Orpheus arrived at his school, it wasn't anything special to him, just the place that made everything about his existence a living hell; no friends, no reliable peers, and especially no luck with girls.

Being alone wasn't new for him, he was used to it by now and he adapted to it, the only person he had was Alter, and he wasn't even real.

*RRRRRRRRRRRRR*

With the sound of the bell Orpheus gathered his belongings, he began making his way to math, carefully reviewing in his mind along the way, "Ok, so I need to know the quadratic formula, Pythagorean theorem, and uhhh what was that last thing?" Orpheus asked himself internally.

Suddenly Orpheus could feel his footing slip and his body beginning to fall, he doesn't react in time however, and feels the force of the ground hit him as his mind starts to go blank.

As Orpheus regains consciousness he opens his eyes and is taken aback by what he sees in front of him.

He was no longer at the school, not even in his world it seemed for that matter, what lay in front of him was a small town.

People were inside the town caring for crops, herding animals, and commuting all in a plaza of sorts. The sky was an orange-ish color and there seemed to be an ocean surrounding them that seemingly never ended. Orpheus rubs his eyes and pinches himself hoping for this to be a dream desperately trying to wake up as a voice calls out to him.

"You there!" A villager shouted from across the way "You must be new! Come over here don't be afraid!"

"Kid I don't know about you but I got a bad vibe from this place, we don't even know where we are and we're supposed to listen to him?!" Alter exclaimed, "He might not even be human"

"I know, but what other choice do we have" Orpheus mutters to himself as he begins to set off toward the town.
