"Right over here guys." I led the delivery guys into my apartment so they can set up. I ordered so much furniture online, but I didn't expect it all to arrive on the same day, so I've been up all morning letting them inside and helping.
And by helping, I meant that I held the door open and watched them put together my couch set, tables, bed frame, and mount my tv. After they left I moved everything around to my liking and cleaned up the mess before heading out for some food. I ended up going back to Rubie's Smoothies and got a table outside since the weather was cooperating today.
As I scanned the menu, they had so many delicious options to get. I wanted some of everything, but I settled on a strawberry and chocolate crepe with some extra turkey bacon on the side. I ordered my food and then pulled out my phone to call Leah. Tomorrow was her birthday so we were gonna start celebrating today. She picked up on the third ring and all I heard was loud music blasting from the other end.
"I was wondering when you were gonna call, hold up." The music stopped then I heard a thump and her yell something that sounded like ouch. "Fuck, that hurt."
I snickered, "And that's why you don't play on the bed."
"I'll continue to do so, now what time are you coming over? We have a lot to do and Zane is being an asshole when this is my day."
Zane's voice can be heard mumbling something unintelligible and Leah shouted for him to get out. "I'm eating breakfast right now, but I'll be there in thirty. Try not to kill each other until I get there, you know I love a good brawl."
An attractive man who looked to be somewhere in his thirties sat at the next table across from mine and his brown eyes bore into mine. He raised his flute of orange juice as a way to toast and took a sip.
"No promises." She hung up and I placed my phone on the table and glanced back at the man who stood up and made his way over to me.
Not him pulling a Ryan move.
"Good morning, I'm Seth." He stuck his palm out for me and I shook it softly.
"Violet." I smiled.
"Sorry for disturbing you. You just remind me of someone I used to know, I just had to come over here to let you know how beautiful you are. Start your morning off with a compliment before someone else beats me to it." He smirked.
Hot and knows how to make a girl feel good, even though I'm like 80% sure I look a hot mess I'll still take the compliment.
"Thank you. You don't look too bad yourself, but don't you think it's a little too hot to be wearing a suit?"
He gestured toward the seat, "May I?"
"Oh, sure, go ahead," I pushed out the extra seat and watched as he gathered his things from the other table before sitting across from me.
"I'm a college professor, so the suit kinda comes with the job no matter what the weather is feeling like."
"Well, you're not at work yet, professor, so take it off and breath for a little while."
He shook his head and let out a soft chuckle before pulling off his suit jacket and placing it on the back of the chair. He pulled up the sleeves of his gray button-up and spread his arms open, "Better?"
I nodded in approval.
The server came out with our food and placed it on the table before rushing back inside. "Oh, you got the crepe too? Good choice. This place has only been open for a month and it's already one of my favorites." He picked up his fork and dug in and I did the same.
The savory flavors touched my tongue and it was as if I had an orgasm in my mouth. The flavors mixed made me feel so warm inside. Food is the only thing that could ever make me feel this way.
"It just melts in your mouth. This is definitely some grade-A chocolate right here." I took another huge bite.
"What did I say? It's the best." he washed his food down with his orange juice and fixed his attention back on me, "So what's a pretty girl like yourself doing all alone this morning?"
I washed my food down with my water and cleared my throat. "I wasn't aware that I needed someone to accompany me just to get some breakfast."
"I guess I'm just trying to figure out if you're seeing someone at the moment."
Oh.
"Uh..." Ryan popped in the back of my head for just a split second. "No there's no special someone in my life yet." I munched on a piece of bacon.
"Any plans?" He asked.
"Yeah, I actually have somewhere to be after this. Just helping plan for my friend's birthday today and tomorrow, you free?"
"Today is my day with the kids, so no party for me." He pushed his empty dish to the side and wiped his mouth clean with a napkin.
Deal breaker. Deal breaker. Deal breaker.
"But I'm free any day after that, so just let me know when you would like to do this again; preferably in a different setting." He placed a few bills down on the table and stood up to pull his jacket back on.
We exchanged numbers and then he left for work. Ok, maybe kids weren't a deal-breaker. He seemed like a nice enough guy so I could give him a chance or maybe we can just be friends. Lord knows I can use more of those.
"Wait! Don't drop that box, those are the bottles of liquor!" Leah yelled at Clair and chased after her to the kitchen
"Wait! Don't drop that box, those are the bottles of liquor!" Leah yelled at Clair and chased after her to the kitchen. Clair tried to prove to us that she was strong enough to carry everything alone, but if she kept it up Leah would have a heart attack before she turned twenty-one. Liquor ain't cheap.
While they were distracted I took that as my chance to escape upstairs and rest. I've been here for a few hours helping out and mama needed a break. I knocked on Zane's door twice before letting myself in and to my surprise, he wasn't in there.
"Where did Zane go? I didn't see him come downstairs." I dropped onto the mattress on my back and propped my head up with my arms.
"Most likely hiding from the lunatic downstairs. You would've thought it was her wedding day how she's bossing people around," Ryan chuckled and spun around in the gaming chair while on his phone.
Zane came rushing into the room seconds later and leaped on top of my body. All of his weight rested on top of me, squeezing the air from my lungs.
"You scared me!" I wheezed, pushing him off of me.
He rolled over beside me and laughed, "You should've seen your face."
I climbed on top of him, straddling his lap, and smothered him with a pillow. "How does it feel, asshole?"
He tossed me to the side with one arm which was no surprise to me seeing as he was a pretty fit guy, but it still annoyed me.
"You guys always used to play like this?" Ryan looked between both of us skeptically.
"Always, and she hates it because no matter what I'm stronger." He chuckled and I slapped his arm.
"I'm just taking it easy on you, but best believe these muscles work." I flexed my arms for them and Leah stormed into the room and crossed her arms over her chest.
We all shared a look and I fought hard to keep my laugh inside.
"Why are you guys hiding up here when I need you?!" She glared at each of us. I exhaled and climbed to my feet and followed her out the door to her room.
There was a mountain of clothes piled up in the middle of her floor and a few dresses tossed on the bed. "Ok, these are the dresses I'll be wearing throughout the night. Do you like them yes or no?"
"Oh, you're wearing three different dresses? They're gorgeous dresses but why?"
"One to start the night. Another for just in case I have a little accident and throw up on myself and the last one to bring in my real birthday tomorrow," She said matter of factly, counting them off on her fingers, and then she turned to leave the room.
I followed her downstairs to finish setting up.
