"What was that creature?" Ines mumbled to herself. Her chest heaved up and down as the adrenaline faded.
Stepping away from the door, she remained still for a couple of moments.
From behind the door, the sound of footsteps gradually faded and the thumping noises had come to a stop completely.
Even so, Ines remained where she stood without budging a single inch for a couple of minutes.
Though she didn't know how long she had remained in that rigid position, only after she was certain that it was gone did she relax.
Her shoulders went slack, and Ines pinched her arm.
"…Ouch," She gasped, her back straightening.
So it really did happen—it really wasn't a figment of her dream, Ines pondered.
She slowly sat down by the door as her legs felt like jelly, and processed the events that just occurred.
She had never been much of a believer in the supernatural, but what she had witnessed the past 48 hours completely reset her understanding of the world around her.
