As the class continued, Zephyrion found himself unable to concentrate, his thoughts constantly drifted to Layla. He wondered what her story was, why she had moved to this town, and what secrets she might have. He couldn't help but be drawn to her, but he didn't know why.
After what felt like an eternity, the bell finally rang, signaling the end of class. Zephyrion quickly gathered his things and made his way out of the classroom, hoping to catch a glimpse of Layla before she disappeared into the sea of students.
He spotted her in the hallway, surrounded by a group of girls who were eagerly chatting her up. Zephyrion hesitated for a moment before making his way over to her.
As Zephyrion approached, a girl turned to face him, her eyes narrowing with a hint of annoyance. "What do you want, Zephyrion?" she asked, her voice dripping with condescension.
That's Kate, the class president, a girl with long black hair that cascades down her back in soft waves, sparkling violet eyes, and lips that are always painted with a bright shade of pink. She has a petite figure but curves in all the right places that make boys turn their heads when she walks by. Her style is a mix of preppy and high-end fashion, always adorned with designer accessories. Despite her good looks and wealth, everyone in the class knows she has a spoiled child personality and often behaves like a princess, expecting everything to be handed to her on a silver platter, no matter what.
Zephyrion hesitated, unsure of how to respond. He had hoped to talk to Layla, but Kate's presence was making him nervous.
"I just wanted to say 'hi' to Layla," he finally managed to say.
"Well, you can't," Kate replied haughtily. "Layla doesn't want to talk to any boy right now."
Zephyrion felt a wave of anger wash over him at Kate's dismissive tone, but he held his tongue. He knew better than to argue with someone like her.
"Just leave her alone," Kate continued. "She doesn't need any distractions in her school life."
With that, she turned back to her friends, effectively dismissing Zephyrion. He stood there for a moment, feeling frustrated and powerless. It seemed like every time he tried to take control of his life, someone else was there to knock him down.
But Zephyrion refused to give up. He was determined to find a way to talk to Layla next time.
Zephyrion walked back to his classroom, lost in thought. As he entered the room, Kai greeted him with a smile.
"Hey man, how was your first period?"
Zephyrion shrugged, "It was alright. Just the usual stuff."
Kai nodded, "Same here. Hey, did you see that new girl they introduced in class? She's pretty hot, huh?"
Zephyrion rolled his eyes, "Yeah, I saw her. But I don't think she's interested in any of us."
Kai chuckled, "Who knows, man. You never know until you try."
Zephyrion shook his head, "I don't think that's a good idea. Especially not with Kate around."
Kai raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean?"
Zephyrion sighed, "She seems to be really protective of Layla. I tried to talk to her earlier, but Kate stopped me before I could even say anything."
Kai shrugged, "Well, that's her loss. Come on, let's sit back before the next period starts"
Zephyrion nodded, following his friend to their seats. But as he sat down, he couldn't help but glance back at the door, as Layla walked back in with her new friends. Layla, had caught his eye for some reason. And to his surprise, he saw her give him a secret smile before turning back to her friends.
'What was that, just now?' Zephyrion though, completely baffled, why did Layla just smiled back to him?
The school day continued, with nothing much happening. Zephyrion kept trying to talk to Layla, but each time he approached her, Kate would block him with her friends. It was frustrating...
During lunch break, Zephyrion and Kai sat at their usual table in the cafeteria, eating their sandwiches and chatting about games. Zephyrion couldn't help but glance over at Layla's table every now and then, watching her interact with her new friends. He felt a pang of jealousy in his chest, wishing he could be a part of her group.
Suddenly, his thoughts were interrupted by a voice behind him. "Hey, Zephyrion," it was Kate, and Zephyrion could feel her cold stare burning into his back. "Can I talk to you for a moment?"
Zephyrion turned around, meeting her eyes. "Sure, what is it?"
Kate's expression was ice cold, and she leaned in closer. "Listen, Zephyrion, I know you've been trying to talk to Layla, but she's not interested."
Zephyrion's heart sank at her words. "But why? I just want to get to know her."
Kate replied, her tone firm. "She's special to me, and she doesn't need guys like you trying to get in her pants. So just stay away from her, okay?"
Zephyrion gritted his teeth, feeling angry and frustrated. "I'm not trying to get in her pants, I just want to talk to her. And why are you acting like you own her or something?"
Kate's eyes narrowed, and she stepped back, her voice cold. "You wouldn't understand. Just stay away from Layla, or you'll regret it."
With that, she turned and walked away, leaving Zephyrion seething with anger and confusion. He couldn't understand why Kate was being so possessive of Layla, and he couldn't help but feel a strong attraction to the mysterious girl.
School ended, Kai and Zephyrion walked together to their favorite game arcade, lost in thought about the events of the day. He was so absorbed in his own thoughts that he didn't notice Kai keep nudging him from the side and Layla walking next to him, trying to say hi.
Finally, Kai's repeated nudges got through to Zephyrion and he looked up to see Layla standing there with a smile on her face. His heart skipped a beat at the sight of her, and he felt a sudden rush of nervousness.
"Hey, Zephyrion. It's nice to see you again," Layla said, her voice soft and sweet.
Zephyrion stumbled over his words, unsure of what to say in response. He felt like he was in a daze, completely entranced by Layla's beauty. Kai nudged him again, this time a bit more forcefully, bringing Zephyrion back to reality.
"Oh, uh, hi, huh?" Zephyrion finally managed to answer, feeling embarrassed by his initial reaction. Then he realized what Layla had said and froze again, his mind racing. "Wait, what do you mean 'nice to see you again'?" he blurted out, his confusion clear on his face.
Layla's smile faltered for a moment before she quickly recovered. "Oh, I just meant from class earlier today. Sorry if I confused you," she said with a small laugh.
Zephyrion nodded, still feeling uneasy about the situation. "Right, sorry about that. I guess I was just a little out of it today," he replied, trying to play it off cool.
Kai smirked, clearly enjoying Zephyrion's flustered state. "You know my buddy?" he asked, looking at Layla and noticing the subtle change in her expression before.
Layla shook her head. "Not really, we just had the same class today," she said, glancing at Zephyrion.
Zephyrion felt a pang of disappointment at her words. He had been hoping that they had some kind of connection beyond just a shared class. But he pushed those thoughts aside and forced a smile. "Well, maybe we can get to know each other better," he said, trying to sound casual.
Layla's smile widened, and Zephyrion felt a surge of hope. Maybe there was a chance for something between them after all.
Noticing that his buddy was about to get lost in his thoughts again, Kai turned to Layla and asked, "Well, do you want to join us at the arcade, Layla?"
Layla's eyes brightened with excitement. "Sure, that sounds like fun," she replied, her voice tinged with anticipation. Zephyrion was overjoyed at the prospect of spending more time with Layla.
As they reached the neon-lit entrance of their favorite arcade and entered, Zephyrion couldn't help but feel a sense of familiarity and comfort wash over him. This was their sanctuary, the place where they came to forget about their worries and just have fun.
Layla, on the other hand, looked like a kid in a candy store. Her eyes darted around the room, taking in all the flashing lights and beeping sounds. "I've never been to an arcade before," she said, her voice filled with wonder.
Zephyrion grinned, feeling a sense of pride that he could show Layla something new. "Well, then you're in for a treat," he said, leading her towards the nearest game.
Layla and Zephyrion played all kinds of games together, and Layla surprised him with her skills. Despite his best efforts, Zephyrion never managed to win a single game against her. He was shocked by this fact since he considered himself to be quite good at arcade games.
"You sure you've never been to an arcade, Layla?" he asked, looking at her in disbelief.
Layla blinked her eyes innocently at his question and shook her head.
"Nope, this is my first time here. I'm just kind of into martial arts, so I have fast reflexes," she explained with a smile.
Zephyrion couldn't help but remember what happened earlier that morning when he saw Layla's quick reflexes in action. He had been impressed by her quick thinking and athleticism, but now he realized that it also explained her skill at the arcade.
As they continued to play, Zephyrion found himself drawn to Layla's energy and enthusiasm. He enjoyed the way she laughed when he made a silly mistake, and the playful way she teased him whenever he lost a game. It felt like they had known each other for years instead of just a few hours.
Eventually, they ran out of tokens, and Kai suggested they grab some food at a nearby diner. Layla agreed, and they walked together to the diner, chatting and laughing along the way.
