Chapter 9 - re: Great Purge

Armors! It was a golden age of inventions for Klayrenbolg, and armaments were what they prioritize beyond all other amenity. This, however, made sense for the fact that they were a city revered for their formidable police force in the realm. The Cavalier was a force begated from this column of the land. However, until the tragedy that unfolded years ago within the gutters of Spindleton, Klayrenbolg had no used for armors.

On that dreaded night, a huge number of Cavaliers were sent on the regular scouting, yet they did not receive return. More were dispatched to go investigation the situation, however, they also didn't return. That was their first confrontation with dreaded demons from the depth.

After that night, a lot of Klayrenbolg maidens had no choice than to embrace widowhood with their children becoming orphans all in one dreadful night.

This marked the turn in their priorities. With a few nudges in the right direction, by the corporation of great minds, their 'Think Tanks' development ways of relating alchemy to smithing.

There were a fountain of hiccups in their projects, however, their discovering of a very powerful artifact : The philosopher's stone. An artifact of great knowledge and tremendous power. It use had coaxed a positive turn in their quest to manufacture their greatest weaponry in the realm. However, not after years of serious observations of this mystery material.

In the end, they had been successful in creating powerful armaments imbued with the roots of alchemy and their teachings as a theocratic state under the wings of divinity.

This marked the golden age of Klayrenbolg, as the credibility of its army was gravely impacted for the better. They became known as the fortress of steel. Besides, why wouldn't they be?

The alpha for instance, had gauntlets that bears the strength of earth, allowing them to displace tons of rocks, using them in dynamic ways. This coupled up with the shock it produces; and the chainsaw effect, thereby enhancing their offensive power.

His boots generates propulsive wind blasts to amplify his speed or change trajectory mid-flight. Chest plates that allowed him to phrase in and out of reality.

And more importantly his blades that could strike opponents with equal mass, making it effective against large opponents since it upgrades in term of weight and mass of it opponents despite the sheer difference in size and weight.

A series of events unfolded after their impactful discovery, and one of those was the emergence of a task force, well-equiped with the finest of weapon. This was a contingency policy set in motion to buttress any fatality chances in their future. A plan set up to make certain that the tragedy that befell Klayrenbolg years ago, doesn't repeat itself.

"We've got no time to waste." Omega, the only female adjudicator, started as they scurried along, fading in and out like ghosts "We end this in a heartbeat!!"

They were yet to engage with their adversaries, but with their speed, it will be more of a sooner than later issue.

"Agreed!! " Bravo responded "That's if everyone plays their roll according to protocol..! "

"Right!! "

Momentarily, the other six adjudicators were making their way towards the demons in a distance. They moved so swiftly that they looked less corporeal and more like a bunch of distorted spectral projections, gaining in on their enemies.

[Index(corporeal) - physical; (spectral) - ghostly]

From a bystander's point of view, they even appeared to have multiple legs; yet, that may have just been a part of their spectral visions.

This ghostly form of theirs, however, was due to Delta's full suit of armor; dimly lighted, possessing a type of physical intangibility attribute, which seemed to make every physical object in it range appear intangible.

"Cancer; Capricorn, you're up!! " Omega ordered as the second in command after the alpha.

"Heads up, comrades, I could be one or one hundred!! " revealed Cancer; and as though on cue, his armor activated, making him appeared to glitch a few times before splitting into two sentient beings; then into four, then into eight, then thirty two.

He metastasized continually like a disease, until his one hundredth clone.

Like feral beasts, the magma demons didn't recognize the need to take caution. They were pawn, binding to the will of their summoner, whose thirst for revenge is his undoing. They also began to leap towards their opponents, who were six not so long ago, but had somehow become a handful.

"Who's cutout for a bumpy ride..?! " asked Capricorn whimsically, as his helmet gleamed like a torch. Energy began to trail from it all the way to his gauntlets; ionizing them to the point where a visible electric field could be seen around them.

"Take us! " Omega yelled with conviction.

Capricorn fell short as the rest continue further. He crouched with both arms lifted above his head;

"Hold on tight!!" he yelled as he plunged his hands, palm flat, onto the concrete floor.

The electric field around both gauntlets splintered, coaxing an unstable reaction that caused everything within a kilometer to float.

Not only object, but people were also chucked into the naval-blue sky. It felt like an upturned hurricane...

The capable ones, were able to fend for themselves by grabbing hold of anything they chanced upon, sturdy enough to keep them from floating away. Others were not so lucky to find themselves in secluded positions amidst the wreckage.

But that wasn't the end of Capricorn's stunt. He didn't only negate the effects of gravity, he also created new gravitational forces on other surfaces, such as the surface of walls, making it possible for his comrades to walk on them with ease and with no adverse effects.

Again, that wasn't all.... The floor began to tilt, bending in innumerable way. It was as though it had grown malleable, extending and retracting into a rollercoaster of irregular positions - Upside down, sideways, diagonally, etc.

With the provision of numerous pathways, the little army of adjudicators were approaching the demons in a haphazard manner.

Some sprinting upside down on the once grounded ceiling, others sideways, others diagonally and others on a rollercoaster. In no time the multitude has surrounded the demons from all angles, constantly on the move with their bodies still fading in and out from Delta's armor that was still active.

Analysing the unpleasant ambush, the demons began to fire out last chunks of molten magma in all directions. Of course, it melted anything it touched, however, the physical intangibility attribute of Delta's armor made almost everything seem to make no sense.

The magma for instance, just passed through them, splattering behind them and causing grave damage. However, as they fired, one of the demons was charging up his demonic aura, seemingly preparing for devastating heat blast.

"We can't let that demon expel that much energy!" Delta warned. "Although my intangibility can phase us out of direct hit, that's subjected to pure lack. There no way to predict when the effects will wear off, that's its drawback... It might fade out during the energy blast, and the lot of us will phase back in and be caught in the attack."

"Then prevention it is!" Exclaimed Omega, as she got in the right position and leaped off the side of the wall, with tremendous output, that crumble the wall behind her.

She was gaining on the charging demon faster than it could react. However, it's comrades were there to defend it.

The other demons directed all their attacks toward her, but that was exactly what she wanted... They were ignorantly playing into her trap.

Still closing in, she spun her sword so fast that it appeared to be nullifying all the attacks sent at her, but in actual fact, it was absorbing it.

He sword started to vibrate so much that she was even finding it difficult to keep spinning it without it slipping out of her grip. However, the determination of and adjudicators was one bolted in an eternity of bastion steel. Keeping up the act through out her flight, she was now upon them.

"Now!" She yelled, and what happened next came as a surprise to the demons... All hundred clones of Cancer unleashed long chains glimmering red with holy light.

With a simultaneous swing, all six magma demons were entangled and bounded to one stop.

The clones began to pull back on the chains with all their might. But of course, in a tag of war, there demon's brute force far outmatches that of human capabilities, even with all the enhancements.

Therefore they were graduately overpowering the hundred men tagging on tight. But, another unforeseen phenomenon occurred....

As the demons tried tagging out, the holy chains themselves crept around them, binding them more. The edge of the chains plunged deep into their hard skin. But that wasn't all; the ground beneath them began to crack, and from it, countless vines emerged, wrapping around their legs and holding them in place.

All this was the work of Delta's intangibility that seemed to make the unthinkable thinkable. With all the restrictions, the demons found it more daunting to free themselves without ripping out if their own flesh.

"Hear me and rejoice, that you are about the meet your ends by the steel of the holy blade of Klayrenbolg; and that your meaningless lives will be extinguished by a weapon that carries meaning." Omega recited mid-air. "With the power vested in my as a fellow adjudicators, I hereby purge you wretched phantoms from the surface of the earth."

With that, she hacked sideways, simultaneously decapitating all six magma demons in a clean swing of her sword.

Their heads tumbled to the ground, and their bodies calcified into an edifice of stone, which broke apart into particles carried by the wind.
