Chapter 165 - Secret Discovery

The worm in question had a mouth filled with thousands of finger-sized razor sharp teeth that seemed capable of churning everything into a meat paste.

There were even displays under each creature, but unfortunately, it was written in another language, so no one had any idea what these texts actually read, leaving it a mystery.

But Minos was instead shocked as he saw the familiar text, his memories immediately going back a few years to when he and Tinka discovered the underground burial site of that large headed humanoid.

It was the exact same text, making it clear that the creators of this temple were of the same species of that large headed humanoid!

While Minos was shocked inwardly, his face remained apathetic, not given any clues to the large groups gathered around him.

Unfortunately he still didn't understand this language, so while he had a slight hint, it didn't actually seem to help him much.

However, Minos still had more than just that, and the first thing that came to mind was the strange monocle that he had also acquired from that burial site.

Finding a corner, Minos discretely pulled out the large monocle, holding it above his eye and giving the room another glance.

But despite his best attempts, nothing changed, the room still remaining the same as before.

A little disappointed, Minos put the monocle back into his spatial ring, but he hadn't given up quite yet, after all there were still a few more rooms to see.

Normally he would give each room a deep search, but he was still afraid of bumping into Lilia, so after a quick inspection, he headed to the library.

The library here wasn't much different from a normal human library, of course everything seemed a bit smaller than normal, clearly not made for humans, but rather the big-headed people that had created the place.

Most of the books here were so old and decrepit that they were already completely unreadable, and the few that were, were written in that foreign text.

For these reasons, the library was pretty much empty, only a few more stubborn people gathered in the corners, deeply inspecting each nook and cranny in an attempt to discover something new.

Had Minos not been followed by a crazed lunatic, he'd probably be like them, not sparing any corner in his search, but he didn't have that luxury at the moment.

So after another quick inspection with his monocle, he left the library, continuing his journey deeper into the large temple.

The next room was the treasury, and compared to the library, this place was even more hopeless, not even a single scrap of a weapon left behind.

However, on the contrary, there were actually more people gathered here, seemingly because the treasury was ultimately the treasury, so if something was discovered, it would likely be incredibly valuable.

Doing the same as he did for the first two rooms, Minos again got nothing, heading to the final star room.

Of course, there were still the prayer rooms left behind, but given how many of them there were, Minos felt it was unlikely there was anything special there, so he left them for the end.

Different from the other rooms, the doors to the star room were completely shut, and only after using all his strength, did he manage to just barely open it.

After squeezing into the room, the doors immediately shut behind him, sealing the room in complete darkness.

The only source of light was a dim glow from the ceiling, causing Minos to look up, amazed by what he saw.

The ceiling was dotted with a seemingly endless amount of crystals of different sizes and shines, each gathered together to replicate the starry sky on a dark night, making one feel like they were back in the real world.

There were a few other people gathered here, but all of them were completely distracted by the dreamy-crystals, their eyes sealed towards the roof.

The crystals seemed to be filled with an illusory effect, capable of deeply attracting people, but this effect didn't seem malicious, but rather an inherent ability of the crystals themselves.

The effect was weak on an individual level, but when there were so many crystals gathered together, even the strongest of the Mortal Renewal Realm could unknowingly be pulled into a vortex.

Fortunately, Minos's soul was far stronger than what was normal for his realm, so after a few minutes of appreciating the beauty of this room, he pulled his gaze away from the ceiling.

The others weren't as lucky as him, completely consumed by the crystals allure, and it would likely take a few hours for them to escape this effect.

That made things a lot easier for him, allowing him to inspect the room with no one getting in the way.

Beyond the crystals on the ceiling, the room was completely empty, with nothing to even inspect, unlike the other rooms that at least had something.

So after only a quick glance, Minos pulled out his monocle, holding it over his eye before looking at the ceiling, hoping he would see something different.

At first, nothing changed, much to Minos' disappointment, but just as he was about to pull the monocle from his eye, the crystals began shifting.

Of course this shifting wasn't happening in reality, but was more like a video slowly rewinding, the crystals all moving back to their original spots.

It seemed the ceiling was more complicated than Minos thought, and rather than being stuck in place, it actually slowly shifted, following the movement of the normal night sky.

It was no wonder he didn't feel a sense of unfamiliarity when he first looked at the ceiling, which in retrospect was actually strange. Thinking back on it now, he realized that the ceiling and the actual night sky he usually looked at were the same.

Instead, it was only with the help of the monocle, was he capable of seeing the same star alignment that those big-headed people witnessed when they first created this room.

But this change must be much deeper than just that, and Minos immediately realized that the true secret had to lie here.

His first thought was to forcefully realign the positions of these crystals, allowing them to go back to where they were at the start.

But given how many crystals there were, that would likely take months worth of time, not to mention there were people here who would definitely not let him work in peace.

Realizing that plan was a deadend, Minos began formulating other ideas, but he failed to come up with anything good.

Ultimately his time was too little and this space was too crowded, leaving his options incredibly limited.

'Damn, what can I do…' Minos thought frustrated as he began pacing the room, but despite his anxiety, nothing came to mind.

Seeing that he was going nowhere, Minos decided to put this room on the backburner for a while, and to inspect the prayer rooms first.

Knowing that his time was running out, Minos increased his pace even more, quickly sprinting to the first prayer room.

The prayer room was also empty, except for a large statue of a lion with a mane seemingly made of flames located in one corner.

He didn't have the luxury to inspect closely, so after burning the scene into his mind, he headed to the next prayer room, once again finding a large statue.

However this time, rather than a creature, the statue was what seemed to be a river, and it was also located in a different spot than the flaming lion statue.

The third room was a large majestic ox that seemed to be roaring towards the heavens, and again it was located in a different location than the first two statues.

'Wait, wait wait! These statues, there's something weird about them. The flaming lion, the river, the ox…'

'Hold on… Flaming Lion, River, Ox, astronomy, constellations… I see, I understand! These aren't statues to be worshiped, but rather, they're constellations!'

'The Flaming Lion Constellation, the Heaven Roaring Ox Constellation, the Milky River Constellation!'

'And now that I think about it, their spots in their rooms align with where they would be according to the star room!'

'Then the answer is simple!' Minos thought ecstatically, as everything suddenly made sense, his body filling with adrenaline as the answer revealed itself from the mist.

But whether his guess was true or not was still to be seen, so after choosing the ox room that was closest to him, Minos forcefully pushed the heavy ox statue to where it would have been all those years ago.

With that done, Minos ran back to the star room, looking up at the ceiling and immediately noticing the difference.

Just like he had expected, the statues and the star room were connected, the two moving in sync.

With that confirmed, all that was left to do was put everything back in its place, and with no time to waste, Minos immediately got to work.

Room after room, Minos secretly and discreetly pushed the statues back to their original spots, not even spending ten minutes all together.

With everything back in its spot, he headed to the star room, opening the heavy doors to reveal a room that was the same, but also different.

The crystals on the ceiling were all back in place, but the people down below didn't seem to notice, still consumed by the crystals magic.

After appreciating his work, he looked back down, immediately noticing a small opening that had revealed itself on the side of the room.
