Chapter 112 - Storm

Before she could get anywhere however, she was grabbed by Ronkus, who stopped her in her tracks.

"What are you doing dad, we need to save him!" Tinka said, tears beading in her eyes, her body shaking from the fear and worry.

"We have no idea where the boy is, going out there will just put our lives at risk. And even if we find him, what are we meant to do? We can't fight a storm." Ronkus said.

"But what if his boat is wrecked, and he needs someone to save him." Tinka said.

"If his boat is wrecked, then it'll be even more impossible to find him in the dense seas. Even trying to travel into the storm itself would be hard given how hard the waves would push us back." Ronkus said calmly.

It wasn't that he was callous, but as the patriarch of the tribe, despite how foolish he may act at times, he was incredibly level headed.

He knew well that an attempt to save Minos was incredibly unlikely to actually do anything, rather, it would just put them in danger.

Ronkus treated all his tribe members with care, so despite how much he cared about Minos, he wasn't willing to risk his own brother's lives for the incredibly small chance of saving Minos.

"Minos is also a cultivator, so his strength is much stronger than any of ours. If anything were to happen that he couldn't save himself from, then I assure you, we would be even more useless." Ronkus kept saying.

Despite how much he told Tinka, she didn't listen at all, repeatedly struggling back against Ronkus's grips in an attempt to escape.

"You chicken, I thought you were a man, but you're just a coward!" Tinka shouted in anger, causing Ronkus's heart to slightly ache.

"If you don't want to help, I'll save him myself." Tinka said, kicking Ronkus in his groin, catching him off guard.

Naturally as the weakness of all men, Ronkus couldn't help but let out a groan of pain, releasing his hold on Tinka.

Escaping Ronkus, Tinka bolted towards the coast, jumping onto a boat in an attempt to escape towards the ocean.

"Catch her!" Ronkus shouted, as he leaned over, still reeling in pain.

The other tribe men quickly ran towards Tinka, trying to stop her from doing something stupid, but before they could reach her, she already made it into the sea.

They tried to run through the water, but naturally they couldn't compare to the speed of a boat, so the distance between the two just got further and further.

"What should we do?" One man asked Ronkus.

"Damn it! Get the boat ready, we're going to catch her." Ronkus commanded.

Almost the same second Ronkus said that, a massive lightning bolt struck the boat Ronkus was pointing towards, wrecking it.

"... What the hell! Go inspect the boat, tell me what the damage is." Ronkus said as he cursed, feeling the heavens were being unnecessarily cruel to him today.

One man quickly ran up to the boat, inspecting the damage. He soon came back with an awkward look on his face, not wanting to speak.

"Just say it, I can handle it." Ronkus shouted.

"Uhh, patriarch, the lightning bolt shattered the wood completely, leaving behind a massive hole. It'll take at least a few hours to fix it." The man said.

Despite saying he could handle it, Ronkus nearly fainted from the words. By the time a few hours were up, Tinka would have long since vanished, making catching her impossible.

It was at this time Meninka came up, grabbing her husband who was on the verge of collapse.

"Calm down honey, there's nothing we can do now, so just pray for our daughter." She explained.

She was naturally just as worried as her husband was, but she knew now was the time when she had to be strong, so she suppressed her fears, and put on a strong face.

"You're right, let's pray to the ancestors to bless Tinka and Minos." Ronkus said, calming his nerves.

Despite saying so, his body was still shaking, Meninka was no better. Seeing the two of them incredibly distressed, the other tribe members gathered around, trying to make them feel better.

Tinka on the other hand wasn't at all thinking about her parents, rather focusing completely on Minos as she paddled into the storm.

Meanwhile, Minos was still using all his power to escape, none the wiser that Tinka had just put her life in danger to try and 'save' him.

The storm was picking up in fierceness, the winds tossing Minos's boat around like it was a rag-doll.

Fortunately the material it was made out of was incredibly strong, so despite the beating the boat had taken thus far, it still managed to survive.

Minos soon realized that paddling was useless. Everytime he tried to escape outwords, the waves would just toss his boat right back where he started.

Realizing that exhausting his energy this way was useless, he decided to put his paddle away, instead focusing on surviving the storm, rather than trying to escape it.

Time passed quickly as Minos laid down on the boat, firmly securing himself onto the shifting boat with both arms and legs.

The hours felt like days as the raindrops kept assaulting him, forcing him to close his eyes and mouth so as to avoid getting pelted in delicate spots.

After a few more hours, Minos suddenly heard a noise, almost like someone was calling his name. He ignored it at first, thinking he was just becoming delirious from all the trembling of the boat.

But despite ignoring the voice, it never went away, instead becoming louder and louder, forcing Minos to take it seriously.

Sitting up from the boat, Minos opened his eyes, using his tremendous eyesight to scan the ocean and try to find the noise.

It didn't take much looking for Minos to notice a small dot far away, focusing his vision even more, he realized it was a boat, but he couldn't tell who was on it.

The noise once again echoed through the stormy seas, confirming to Minos that the boat was indeed where the sound was coming from.

Deciding to meet the boat, Minos quickly picked up his paddles, rowing towards the other boat's location.

The two boats quickly came closer and closer, and soon enough Minos could make out who was on it, but the result completely shocked him.

"Tinka?" Minos shouted out with his entire body's strength.

"Minos!" Tinka shouted back.

Confirming it was Tinka, Minos paddled even stronger, soon reaching directly across from her. Despite seeing Tinka, he wasn't at all happy, instead he was incredibly angry.

"What are you doing out here, don't you know you could have killed yourself." He shouted.

"I was worried about you, so I wanted to come out and save you!" Tinka shouted back.

"How are you supposed to save me, when I can't even save me." He shouted back.

"I thought maybe your boat was destroyed, I was worried, I couldn't just sit back with the thought of you in danger." Tinka shouted back.

Despite still being angry, Minos knew Tinka was acting from a good place, which caused his anger to slightly fizzle out.

The two's boats soon intersected, Minos reaching out towards Tinka. Tinka grabbed his arm, and he pulled her onto his boat, hugging her tightly as if he was afraid she'd fly off.

"Don't ever do something this stupid ever again, do you understand me?" Minos said directly into her ear.

"No promises." Tinka responded.

Despite wanting to be angry, Minos couldn't help but laugh. The more he knew Tinka, the more he realized she and him were much alike, which was likely why they seemed to fall in love at first sight.

"You'd do the same for me, wouldn't you?" Tinka suddenly asked.

"Of course." Minos replied.

"You better not!" Tinka threatened, causing Minos to laugh again.

"I want to be angry at you, but I guess we're both the same, aren't we?" He said.

"I guess we are." Tinka replied, the two smiling at each other.

The mood between the two was completely opposite of the reality around them. The storm was still going on strong, reminding the two of their perilous situation.

Grabbing Tinka tightly, Minos sat back down onto the boat. The two embraced as the rain kept pelting them, Minos using his body to keep Tinka warm.

"Now what?" Tinka asked.

"I thought you came here to save me, shouldn't you have a plan?" Minos responded.

"I didn't think that far." Tinka replied.

"Then I guess we're just going to have to hold on tight and pray to the heavens." Minos said.

Tinka didn't respond, instead just snuggling deeply into Minos's chest. Just knowing he was alive and safe made all her worry go away, the sound of his heartbeat removing all her anxiety, as if assuring her everything will be okay, despite the very real threat that still surrounded them.
