Chapter 72 - Eating Magma Fruit's

The clouds began to get thinner as Minos flew higher into the skies. Eventually, he completely broke out from them, the blue skies and brilliant sun enveloping him, as if they were waiting in welcome.

Minos couldn't help but smile as he rubbed the ash and dirt from his body, appreciating the spectacular view as he continued to soar amongst the birds.

Unfortunately such a view wasn't one he was blessed to enjoy for long. Soon, the Levitation Talisman dispersed, and Minos replaced it with a weaker one, allowing himself to slowly float towards the earth.

While floating down, Minos removed his disguise. At the same time he was done, his feet touched the earthen floor.

Without a second's hesitation, he burst out into full speed. Using his memory of the path, he quickly reestablished his current location before heading towards Volcamie Ports.

The journey back was much faster, and in less than ten minutes, Minos had already made it back to the packed town.

He quickly squeezed through the dense crowd, making his way back to the pub. The same bartender as earlier in the day was still tending to his customers, as if nothing had ever happened.

After he finished filling a glass for a patron, he looked up and noticed Minos. "Young man, back so soon? How was it?"

"Dangerous. It was clearly arrogant of me to think I could compete amongst those bigshots." Minos said, with a downtrodden look on his face.

The bartender couldn't help but laugh, but quickly got to cheering up Minos. "No need to feel sad kid, the fact that you've kept your life is a miracle enough. Plenty of stronger people than you who never came back."

Minos seemed to feel slightly better as the bartender said that, but he was still clearly depressed. He soon ordered the pub's signature alcohol, as if to drink away his sorrows.

Downing glass after glass, Minos soon went completely red in the face. He exited the pub and stumbled around until he found the closest inn.

The second he entered his rented room, his stumbling completely stopped, and his red face went back to normal.

The entire act was a complete disguise, of course whether it was necessary or not was hard to say, but Minos was always the careful type.

He sat down on the bed, using his emotion sense to make sure the surroundings were clear. Once he was certain that no one was near his room or spying on him, he took out a single Magma Fruit from his spatial ring.

The fruit was extremely hot, nearly scalding Minos's hand. Fortunately his will was extremely tempered, so he managed to hold on tightly despite the pain, keeping it from falling to the floor.

Minos didn't eat it right away, instead he inspected it for a moment before putting it away. He still wasn't sure how to properly consume it, so it was useless to him at the moment.

Minos slept the night in peace, waking up early as usual. The first thing on his schedule today was naturally to figure out what to do with the Magma Fruit.

Fortunately, as the place where the Magma Fruit grew natively, there was plenty of information about it.

Minos headed towards the Volcamie Auction House, which also doubled as a store to buy goods, and quickly bought a Botanical Guide that outlined all sorts of different plant species, including the Magma Tree.

He also bought a bestiary, but that was for another time. As he reentered his room at the inn, he got comfortable on the bed before flipping over the book towards the page that explained the Magma Tree.

'Magma Tree - a rare tree that only grows in places with the most extreme heat. Its fruit's can only properly ripen via the watering of lava, making them amongst the most peculiar fruit near the Alephora Continent.'

'When talking of the Magma Tree, one naturally has to mention the Magma Fruit, which is their most valuable resource. The Magma Fruit can only be eaten two to three times before one builds an immunity.'

'For those who consume all three Magma Fruit's, they can break through 2-3 Life Locks in the earlier stages, at the later middle stages, the effect weakens, but most can still break 2 life locks.'

'The Magma Tree is considered a Three-Moon treasure, whereas its fruit are classified as Two-Moon treasures.'

'The Magma Fruit requires no special preparation, and one can simply eat them whole. However it's recommended that you wait in between each consumption since the tremendous heat of the fruit can cause internal damage if too many are consumed at once.'

Having learnt, Minos put away the botanical guide and pulled out a Magma Fruit. The sweltering heat spread amongst the room. Minos ignored his discomfort, and with a few bites, he quickly swallowed down a fruit.

A tremendous heat began spreading through his body, causing his skin to go slightly red. The heat seemed to suddenly find an outlet as it attacked Minos's Fifth Life Lock, however the life lock stood still, like an iron wall.

Minos quickly realized one fruit wasn't enough, and completely ignoring the warning of the guide, he quickly swallowed another.

The heat that assaulted Minos's life lock became even stronger, but it still wasn't enough. With a little annoyance on his face, Minos swallowed the third Magma Fruit, his body as red as a lobster at this point.

The third Magma Fruit was like the final straw that broke the camel's back, and with its support, the Fifth Life Lock finally began to slowly crumble.

As the heat was on the verge of dispersing, the life lock finally collapsed completely. A new sudden force traveling out into Minos's body.

The pain of the Magma Fruit was soon replaced by the elation of finally breaking through. Minos tightly clenched his fist as he felt the tremendous strength that flowed through him.

His strength of 1350 surged up to 2150 as breaking the Fifth Life Lock gave him 800 pounds of strength.

His strength had officially reached a ton, and that wasn't even considering his punching force, which was enough to kill an elephant with a casual swing.

There was also the muscle fiber enhancement that came with the middle realms, doubling his speed once more.

At the Third Life Lock he wasn't much faster than an average person, running 100 meters in about 10 seconds, or 10 meters every second.

Once he reached the Fourth Life Lock that speed doubled to 20 meters a second, and now it had doubled again, to 40 meters a second.

That was not even including when he used his Shining Run to double his speed again, in that case he was nearly traveling 100 meters every second.

To most mortals and those at the Third Life Lock or below, Minos was like a flash of light, they wouldn't even be able to react before his attack landed.

Of course Minos didn't plan to use his strength to bully others, but it was still good to know where exactly to place his strength, it also humbled him.

In the same way he could defeat those at the lower Mortal Renewal layers with ease, those in the late Mortal Renewal layers would similarly be able to beat him.

It was another reminder that his journey was still a long one, and there was no room for arrogance.

Minos quickly calmed down his excited nerves, meditating peacefully as he took back control of both his emotions and his new power.

Minos's breathing soon became even. Opening his eyes, he released his tense muscles, relaxing his body completely.

He let out a long exhale as he jumped off the bed. Ultimately this breakthrough was just a fortunate benefit of this side-quest, but it was never his main goal.

This new strength further bolstered his confidence, his original mission would be even easier now.

Volcamie Island was surrounded by dozens of different islands, any of which could be the possible location of the Nine Sword Divinity's grave, but going through each one would take years, and Minos didn't have that time to waste.

Not to mention the map might be a ruse from the start, making it even less wise to waste such a tremendous amount of time searching.

Minos wanted to try to see things out of the Nine Sword Divinity's perspective. If he could understand the man's life, how he thought, he might be able to pinpoint where the grave might possibly be.

With that consideration in mind, Minos exited the inn. Volcamie Ports was a very popular location, so one could find all sorts of establishments, which naturally included bookstores.

Minos found the closest one to his inn before entering. The store was mostly empty, except for an old man who stood behind a register, leaning back comfortably in his chair as he read a newspaper.

Hearing the ring of the bell as the door opened, the old man lowered the newspaper and peeked over it, glancing at Minos.

"Welcome young man, what brings you here." The old man said with a little excitement, clearly not getting new customers very often.

"I'm wondering if you have anything about the Nine Sword Divinity." Minos asked.

"Hahaha, boy, how could we not? We've got biographies, legends, and even fan-fiction." The old man said proudly.

"Fan-fiction? What is that?" Minos said with a little curiosity.

"Just stories written by fans of the Nine Sword Divinity. You can see them as a sort of re-imagination, adding new color to the already splendid story of his life." The old man said with his head raised high.

"Sounds interesting." Minos said.
