Chapter 30 - Checking the Accounts

It was a chilly evening in late January when Adam, Lily, and David sat down at the kitchen table to review the farm's accounts. Adam had always been meticulous about keeping track of the farm's finances, but with the recent expansion of the livestock and the decision to open a restaurant, he wanted to make sure everything was in order.

As they went through the books, Adam could see that the farm was doing well. The crops had sold at a good price, the livestock had grown and produced more than he had anticipated, and the restaurant had become popular with the locals. However, he also saw that there were some areas where they could improve.

"We need to reduce the water bill," Adam said, pointing to a line item on the ledger. "We can't afford to keep paying such a high cost."

David nodded in agreement. "I might have a solution to that," he said. "I've been thinking about using my powers to help us conserve water."

Adam looked at him with surprise. "What do you mean?" he asked.

David explained that he had the power to communicate with animals and had been experimenting with ways to use it to help the farm. "I've been talking to the cows and pigs, and they've been telling me that they're thirsty," he said. "I think we could save a lot of water if we gave them more access to the pond and the creek."

Adam was skeptical at first, but Lily pointed out that they had nothing to lose by trying. So, they decided to give David's idea a chance.

Over the next few weeks, David worked with the animals, teaching them to communicate their needs to him. Adam noticed that the livestock seemed to be healthier and happier, and they were definitely drinking less water.

As they sat down to review the accounts again a month later, Adam saw that the water bill had gone down significantly. "This is incredible," he said. "David, I can't thank you enough."

David shrugged modestly. "It's no big deal," he said. "I'm just glad I could help."

From that point on, Adam and David worked closely together to enhance the productivity and health of the farm. They found that their powers complemented each other perfectly, and they were able to achieve things that Adam had never thought possible.

As they finished the tax paperwork and closed the ledger, Lily looked at Adam with pride. "You've built something amazing here," she said. "I'm so proud of you."

Adam smiled at her and looked around the kitchen. He realized that he had come a long way since he had first arrived on the farm as a young man. With Lily by his side, and David as his partner in farming, he knew that there was nothing he couldn't accomplish.
