Taken aback by her sudden movement, Rhain found himself cradling Daisy in his arms. It was an instinctual response, her delicate form nestled against him triggering his protective instincts. An instinct rarely triggered since he had turned, because it went against his other instincts. The darker, more predatory part of him that stirred at her fear. It whispered in the recesses of his mind, to chase, dominate, and feast. Tonight, however, was not for that.
His arms held her close, her cheek resting against his chest. The scent of her, mingled with the rain, drew him in, enticing him to bury his nose in her hair, but he resisted the urge.
