Chapter 1 - Men in black sunglasses on Mars

It was a sunny, but cold day for Yuri.

He couldn't remember how, or why he got here.

Because of the pain in his head, he thought at first that he was hallucinating.

But he wasn't. He was currently on an hospital bead.

The almost colorless white bed was a clear indication to that.

Many questions were flowing constantly in and out of his head.

He was curious how he managed to get into such a place.

He definitely didn't have enough money to pay up for the insurance.

He barely managed to get money to somehow survive in his little home.

If a small old abandoned building even could be considered a home.

Funny how, after his parents kicked him out of the house to when he became 18, he somehow managed to find that old building. The old man, who was supposedly the owner of that building, died the day before. Yuri then just started living in that place.

Why was he kicked out?

He didn't remember.

It was almost 3 years ago.

And he never even had an actual chance of thinking about this.

Was it because he hadn't the looks nor the smarts of his younger brother?

Maybe because his old girlfriend started cheating on that same brother, which then ended with him being brutally beaten by Yuri. Of course, the parents believed the younger child.

And maybe it might have been his strange belief in a higher being.

That was the only way he could survive his life. His hope that maybe there was a higher power, that would make his suffering mean something. Even if his prayers never got answered, the fact that he was maybe heard by someone was enough.

It such a sad thing that Religion almost became non-existent.

In a world were technology managed to progress to such heights, there was almost no need for anything like religion. God was replaced with machinery and work.

And it did not help that humanity already started conquering stars.

Mars has long been terraformed and colonized.

The only difference was that it was far colder than on earth.

Then Yuri thought to himself.

If I think about it, how is it on earth?

He didn't have anyone to ask.

His brother would most likely already be there, in the most esteem University.

Maybe he even already has a job. Did his brother somehow managed to get married?

It doesn't matter.

But what did matter, was that if he judged by the temper of his boss, he would most likely be fired by now.

She never ever liked him, the only reason why she even allowed Yuri to work for her was because she didn't have to pay him much.

But now what?

'Why is it so cold? ', He thought to himself, covering himself deeper into his clean blanket.

That was until he heard a screak of a door opening.

Turning towards the point where the sound came from, he saw two men enter.

Both were completely dressed in black, and each of them had things that were covering their eyes.

'So that's what sunglasses look like. They look kind of cool.'

"Look Frank, our little sleepy beauty has finally awakened. That's good."

'Me, a beauty? I am no beauty. He probably said that just to be polite. '

"Seriously Daniel, on what planet would he be a beauty?" spat the so-called Frank.

'There you have it. Just as I thought.'

"Don´t be like this Frank. The least you can do is be a little bit more polite towards him. Sorry for my partner, I hope you don't hold any grudge now with him."

"None taken" responded Yuri "But I would really like to know who you are and where I currently am. And finally, I would like to know why my head hurts so much and why it's so God damn cold in here."

"That´s easy. Your head hurts so much because you were hit by a vehicle passing by you. The driver, who then sadly died in the accident, was found out to be a drunk old man trying to end his life. But you survived, so there is no problem."

Survived, heh, yeah, I survived.

"Who paid the bills and how much do I owe him?" Yuri then asked, looking at his almost completely clean attire.

"What do you mean?" asked then Daniel, while Frank busily closed the open window.

"If you know that the dead driver wanted to commit suicide, then you most know that I am not capable of paying the bills of even the cheapest hospital in Yuri. That´s why I´m asking who I own my life and to know how I should repay him."

Frank then took of his glasses, showing then his implanted green and black eyes.

"Straight to the point, I like it. You remind me of my old partner. I guess we could work."

"Daniel", suddenly called out Frank "We must move, now. If what your necklace is burning then it means we must act now, if we want to get this guy out of here alive. This place is about to be stormed again."

"Wait what?"

Then I heard the door open. Another human silhouette appeared in the doorway.

In shock, Yuri realized that this guy was armed, and pointing his weapon at Yuri.

Then everything happened so quickly.

When the intruder opened fire at Yuri, Daniel almost instantly stood in front of Yuri like a wall, protecting him from an almost assured death.

Frank meanwhile took out his own weapon out and opened fire at the uninvited guest.

As the enemy fell dead, Frank then turned towards both Daniel and the completely frightened Yuri. For the first time since he entered the room, he had a smile

"I saved you again, Daniel. You own me a meeting with her now."

"Yeah, yeah, I know." Responded Daniel with a sigh.

Strangely, Daniel didn't seem to be in any way or form bothered by the fact that he took an almost entire mag to his back. He still had the same calm energy.

"Jesus Christ, What The Hell?!", screamed Yuri almost in utter shock and unbelief.

"Oh look at that. Daniel! He is a believer! Just like you!"

"Shut up! I should have never told you about that."

"But I am grateful that you did."

"Who is this guy? Why did he try to kill me? Why aren't you dead? What is Going ONNN!!"

Then Yuri felt an incredible pain in the head, and he fell unconscious.
