Chapter 1 - Prologue

It was a cold stormy night and Detective Levine was just finishing up. Suddenly his phone rang, he checked who it was and it was his supervisor. He picked it up.

"What's wrong boss?" he asked.

"Levine... We have a problem... A big one," he answered in a concerned voice.

"Let me guess, another body? In the same forest?"

"On point as always. On the southeast side for extra," he added.

It was a brief silence and he hung up. He grabbed his car keys and immediately went to drive to the location.

Upon arriving, the storm had finally subsided. He turns off his engine, gets out of the car and locks it afterwards. He blankly stares at the forest in front of him, The Shadow's Forest.

Detective Levine stepped into the forest and followed the strong blood scent. It makes him feel sick to his stomach but it's part of the job so he toughed it out. Unfortunately upon arriving, he saw a brutal scene of blood splattered everywhere with intestines hanging on a branch. He couldn't hold it in anymore and puked in a nearby bush. The scent of blood made it worse.

His partner rushed to his side and rubbed his back in an attempt to calm it down. It worked and soon it died down. His supervisor walks over to him "you okay Levine? sorry for that mess, it was way too messy so it took time for the crew to clean it," he questioned him in a concerned voice.

He could only give a thumbs up as an indicator that he's still feeling sick but better. He clears his throat and walks to the scene. There are still traces of blood but it was cleaner than before. He approaches one of the cleaning crew and they understand. They gave him all the evidence that they found while cleaning that includes:

-a lock of two coloured hairs

-a piece of black fabric

-two pieces of papers(a sticky note and a profile)

The sticky note was written 'meet me at the usual spot at midnight. we'll have a really fun time ;)' in cursive. He thought that there's no doubt it's a woman's writing. He scans the profile next and it belonged to a man that goes by David Johnson.

'This guy huh? 25 years old, engaged, 5'7 and weighs 140lbs. Works as a manager at a local store... He really has grown but somehow there's a connection between him and the sticky note... There's a high possibility of him being-'

"Foxer!" his partner's voice snapped him out of his train thoughts.

He snaps his head towards his partner "were you even listening? I was asking you a question," his partner complained. He just gave an awkward smile "sorry Sasha. What was the question again?" he apologized and asked. She just scoffed and asked "why are people scared of this forest? I mean- they won't be a victim unless it's on a Wednesday night,". He just sighs, pats her head and just replies with "you do remember about the same teenagers saying the same thing right? Y'know? The 'Truth or Dare incident'?" He gave her a smile and horrors can be seen in her eyes. She just frowned and walked away.

Foxer watched as she disappeared into the darkness. As soon as he thinks she's far enough, he turns around and looks up at the tree. A figure wearing a torn black cloak can be seen squatting on a branch. They made a staring contest before the figure forfeited by retreating and soon it disappeared somewhere. He just scoffed and walked to his car to get a break after everything.

On his way, he heard rustling that obviously turns on his fight or flight mode. His eyes locked on the source which is a bush. He slowly steps towards the bush and peeks in it. It was a little kitten. It looked up to him and gave a small, little meow. He felt bad so he decided to bring the kitten home. He scooped it up and put it in his jacket's pocket. Then he continued his way home, lost in a train of thoughts.
