"Blue!" Straw jumps towards Blue, tackling her down the hill. The two of them interlock as they fall through the endless plows of snow. The bright lights lit up the eerie, dark sky and sent a cascade of colors in every direction.
Blue and Straw stop rolling at the foot of the fill, rolling down the stone path as Straw hits the back of her head against a rock, causing her head to whip forward.
"Agh!" Blue cried in pain as her hand twitched and convulsed from the metal shards embedded in her flesh. "You idiot!" Straw gritted her teeth as she slammed her fist into the snow, creating a depression in the snow. "Why would you take the signaler away from me?" A singular drop of blood rolled down the back of her head.
"It hurts!" Blue couldn't help but bawl her eyes out at the sheer pain she was feeling. Her eyes were shut, and her pale white skin had turned a flushed pink.
"Goddammit Blue!" Straw removed her jacket and ripped off a small chunk from the sleeve, creating an impromptu bandage. She grabbed Blue's hand and inspected it. The top layer of her skin had burns and was peeling off; several long pieces of metal had embedded themselves into her palm and fingers.
"This might hurt a bit," Straw whispered under her breath as she dug her fingers into Blue's hand. Her long, slender fingers and sharp nails dug into Blue's flesh. Blue screamed in anguish even louder as Straw precisely and accurately removed the inch-wide piece of metal.
Straw looked up and stared at the sky. The spray of colors was beautiful but lethal. The northern lights were being overpowered, casting a rainbow over the ground below them. Straw looked back down and focused her attention on Blue's wound, drawing her attention away.
Blue was sweating profusely from exhaustion; her hyperventilation had caused the cold air to rush into her mouth, freezing the saliva inside of her mouth and making it harder for her to breathe. She was inhaling pure snow.
Straw couldn't bear to see Blue in pain, quickly wrapping the wound on her palm with the torn piece of fabric. She tied it intricately but quickly, making sure to apply pressure to stop the excessive bleeding.
Straw tied the fabric together and relieved some of the pain, allowing Blue to regain some semblance of sanity. She opened her eyes as snow fell on her face, flooding her hair with individual snowflakes. "It hurts."
"It better hurt." Straw was kneeling on the cold, snowy ground. Without her jacket, she was starting to feel the extreme cold. Her arms were exposed, as all she was wearing was a thin white singlet that provided no warmth. Straw tried to regulate her breathing and slow down her heartbeat, but the sudden wave of pain in the back of her head made itself apparent.
"Straw!" Straw fell to the ground and landed on her side as blood leaked from the back of her head. The wound that she had inflicted on herself when her head hit the rock had started to swell and bleed. The sheer force of her head hitting the rock wasn't all; to add insult to injury, the whiplash of her head tilting forward at such a high speed caused the front part of her brain to hit the front of her skull, knocking her unconscious. She was only able to stay conscious for a short moment out of adrenaline and sheer worry for her sister, forcing her body to stay awake.
"Straw!" Blue sits up as she sees her sister unconscious in the snow. "Shit!" Blue stands up and staggers from side to side, her head discombobulated from the fall. She tried to move towards Straw, but her vision failed her, her sense of balance had been skewered, and she could barely support herself.
"Crap!" Blue stumbles over to Straw and tries to pick her up, but Straw is too heavy for her. "Get up!" Blue tugs at Straw's arm, pulling harder and harder. Blue bends down and throws her arm over her shoulder, standing upwards as she hoists her. Straw was much taller and larger than her, and Blue's small arms couldn't do much to support her towering weight.
Blue looks up at the explosion the signaler had made; the colors had started to fade away and disappear. She thought it was all futile.
In the reflection of Blue's eyes was a glimpse of hope, and a splash of color poured over her irises. Another signal had gone off! Blue looked off into the distance and could see the faint colors of the rainbow signaler, signaling that her beacon of light was not for nothing. Another person had acknowledged her whereabouts. "Yes!" Blue screams in excitement as she rejoices.
"Can you shut up?" Straw groans as she slaps her hand gently across Blue's face, wiping her cold snot across her face. She opens her eyes and makes a disgusted face before wiping it on Blue's shirt. "Your incessant screams are making it hard for me to stay unconscious."
"We're going home." Blue ignored Straw's comments and started walking down, adjacent to the hill.
"Put me down!" Straw realized that she was being carried by Blue. Instinctively, she didn't feel safe. "I don't want to be carried by you." Straw pushed herself off Blue's arms and caused her to fall down and face-plant into the snow.
Blue chortled.
"Ugh!" Straw placed her hand behind her head, checking her wounds. She moved her hands around and inspected the place where she had hit her head. She looked at her hand as dried blood coated her hands; the wound had nearly closed and the bleeding had stopped. "Still hurts a lot."
"Who cares if you're okay or not? Let's go home." Blue stretched her hand out, offering a hand to Straw. "I want to kill that ice speaker already; I'm starving."
Straw looks up and sees that Blue is offering her injured hand. "Bet!" Straw smacked Blue's injured hand, causing the shards of metal to embed themselves deeper and start the bleeding again.
"Bitch!" Blue cried in pain.
"Let's go home." Straw sighed in exhaustion as she turned around, facing the direction of where home is.
