Chapter 5 - Magic and the Proof of Friendship

"Alright everyone for the new members, I want each of you to place your hand in this keystone so I can register you to our group." Hailey placed the keystone in front of us.

"I'll go first!" Mia immediately places her hand on the keystone and it glows yellow.

"Seems like you've been blessed with healing magic." Sylve dictates the results of Mia after being scanned.

"Well I do have a family member who used to be a white mage." Mia smirked.

"Oh, that's nice. It would be helpful for you to record things about healing magic." Sylve responded.

"I'm next then." I placed my hand on the keystone and it started to glow green.

"Ah, interesting magic that enhances the body. Quite a rare type there, Beatrix." Sylve dictates the results while recording down on her notes.

"Woah, I haven't heard that type before." Mia was curious.

"I'll give you guys the rundown of magic later. Elizabeth, how about yours?" Asked Hailey.

"Well I'm not confident that I'll have any type of magic since I don't know if I even have one." Elizabeth reluctantly replied.

"Nonsense, everyone has at least a form of magic of some sort inside them. Or else we wouldn't be here if we don't." Hailey pats Elizabeth's shoulder.

I hope this doesn't show that she's the most powerful mage in history… Elizabeth places her hand on the keystone and seems like no light shined from it. A moment of relief that the truth hasn't prematurely revealed to them.

"Seems like she does have magic on her from the readings here. She's more on the general side of things with a neutral mana pool." Said Sylve as she showed the details to Hailey.

"I knew it. I don't have the capabilities to use magic…" Elizabeth sighed in disappointment.

"Oh, don't you worry about the details of yours Elizabeth. Yours is actually pretty universal in terms of usability. Meaning you can use multiple types of magic, if I have to put it something like a jack of all trades and masters of none." Hailey replied while comforting Elizabeth.

Seems like this is a good opportunity to learn more about magic while I'm at it. Since to be honest I never learned any of it I just know I can use it for my missions.

"Since everyone finally knows what kind of magic they have. We can finally start with how magic in general works. We know this study is already obsolete and almost every famous mage we know is either retired or gone by now.

But let's get started with the basics. There are 8 different types of base magic like the ones you know. But there's 3 variants in total. First is External or Normal magic is the normal variant of magic we all know.

This is the Offensive, Defensive, and Supportive type. And from what you guys know Mia has a background of white mages which means your magic type is Supportive and they usually represent the yellow spectrum. And Mia has a high affinity of that spectrum which means she can use healing magic to its fullest due to the fact that you have a lineage of white mages.

Beatrix on the other hand has a Body type from the Internal variant of Magic. Or it's also known as Self Magic. Which also has three types. The Mind, Body, and Soul. These three represent people who can use chant-less magic that directly improves themselves when they use it." Hailey starts the discussion about my type of magic which I didn't know was advanced.

"So how does Internal Magic work?" Mia asked.

"Great question. Internal Magic correlates a direct enhancement or an additional help on the user's physical self. Let's start with the Body, Beatrix, have you ever used your magic before?" Hailey asked me.

"Well I did during training. I guess I can use it by just thinking about it and making me train for longer than normal." I replied.

"So you used your magic to improve your stamina. That's one use case of Body magic. Of which is the only known type of magic that enhances the physical self by increasing strength, agility, and what she mentioned stamina or endurance.

Mind magic on the other hand is a bit more complex than Body since it represents the Psychics of the mage world. Those who have capabilities to use their mind to control things surrounding them and to some point even other humans. They possess a strong mental fortitude, and a powerful potential surrounding them.

Most Mind magic users are gone in the history books by now but we may not know who still possesses it until we scan them using our keystone and record them into our journal for further investigation. Also they're one of the most dangerous types of mages when used for evil deeds so be careful when around them.

Soul Magic on the other hand are those who can cross the border of life and death. It is considered as a dead type of magic. Since no one has been recorded of being able to wield it for more than centuries now. It is considered taboo magic as well since it exploits the laws of life by being able to revive a dead person back." Hailey explains while she writes some examples on the whiteboard.

"What about the three External magic types? Can you clarify them?" Elizabeth asked.

"Alright, I forgot to get back into that. Let's get back to it shall we?" Hailey turns the whiteboard to the other side and begins writing down the details…

Not gonna lie I haven't heard any of this in my textbooks when I learned magic. This club shouldn't be taken as a joke since they sound like they know what they're talking about. Better to take mental notes about this to learn more about enemies later on.

"The Offensive type should be self explanatory since they specialize in offensive attacks that hurt people who come across it. Plus they have the advantage of being versatile in certain situations. Some offensive attacks can be applied as mobility enhancing magic such as using flame magic to propel once self to accelerate and many more.

Defensive on the other hand is the complete opposite: they're focused on making sure themselves or the people around them wouldn't get hurt. But in our theories there is a possibility of making Defensive magic into an attack. It sounds simple enough to understand.

And finally Supportive type magic is pretty diverse out of everything here. Because it can be applied in pretty much everything from military tactics to everyday life. Healing magic is part of it, which is where Mia's lineage is probably from.

With that… That's all you need to know about the basics of magic. Any questions?" Hailey closes her pen marker, finishing her discussion.

"Sorry if Hailey went overboard on the explanation part…" Sylve apologizes while bowing her head.

"No, not really we're glad we found out about this since we really wanna know more about magic anyways." Elizabeth replied.

"I see that's understandable then. But since everyone is still here might as well give something the members of the Magic Research Club should have as a symbol of your membership." Sylve grabs something from a chest container.

"Oh what is it?" Asked Mia.

"Well here as a symbol of your membership of the club. This is a sight glass amulet. Its use case is to see what the other members are doing and where they are right now. It's a good tool to know where everyone is. In case everyone gets lost or something." Said Hailey.

"Wow this thing knows where we are?" Mia replied.

"Yes, also it reacts to your magic pool. So it will adapt to its respective color in a few seconds." Sylve explained.

Soon after Sylve mentioned it. The amulets already adapted to the color of our respective magic. Which is great that I finally learned some of the things I never knew I wanted to know more about magic.

I just knew how to use it unwillingly like out of nowhere. I guess this is for the best to learn how to use it better for me to improve my already pretty capable self. After that we continued on talking about some of the details about magic.

I never knew such obsolete knowledge would be so capable of doing many things. Now I wonder why it became obsolete, I'll keep this knowledge for myself for now. It's better to have some underhand knowledge devoid from what my superiors taught me.

The club day went on the entire day taking up most of our time. We even had to take our lunch there to continue the discussion. Ending our day sooner than we anticipated this is what they call the days are shorter when you're having fun.

With no updates or mission requests from Exia this is by far a very much relaxing day for me. Plus the things I learned about Elizabeth, I need to write it down in my journal. A lot of it is important information that I have to analyze later…
