"Stop! Don't eat me! Ahh! Help!"
Zed's eyes narrowed at the sound, scanning the direction from where it originated. He could barely discern the area, a dense cluster of trees.
Earlier, preoccupied by the downpour and his encounter with Brute, he hadn't paid much attention to it. But now, the whole woodland seemed alive, a breathing beast. Unlike the aggressive Thorneye nests they had previously encountered, the trees here were tranquil, devoid of any evident menace.
Vivian's expression tightened, and she began to move towards the cries for help.
"Hold on!"
Zed's voice halted her in her tracks. She turned to look back at him, the scales on her face not fully faded.
"What is it? Someone's there."
"We need to hold back for a moment."
Zed gestured towards the forest, adjusting his shell helmet with a serious expression.
"We can't be sure it's a person."
Vivian blinked, taken aback by his words.
