His aim was true as he wrenched the head of a Brute sideways, then it lost its balance. Without giving the Brute a moment to retaliate, he planted a foot firmly on its broad shoulders. The butt of his gun descended repeatedly, its blows echoing in the storm.
*Crack*
The sickeningly crisp sound of a broken nose.
The whole gun-butt sank into the creature's face. The towering Brute twitched twice before falling utterly still.
"Phew...."
The process was grueling. The result, satisfying.
A few months ago, he'd been the hunted, chased pitifully by the Brutes. Now, although he still hadn't fully mastered the Awakening practice, with the simple enhancements from the Spore and the foundational upgrade of the Vampire Path, he could slay a C-lvl Brute.
