Chapter 3 - Chapter1: The Mysterious Intruder (1)

Subaru stood near the window in Sakamaki mansion, his gaze fixed upon the moon shrouded in thick clouds. He absentmindedly twirled a sharp knife in his hand, the glint of the blade catching the dim light. As he stood there, his ears caught the faint strains of a melodic tune drifting through the air, emanating from a distance. The soft, haunting melody of a piano being played by Laito, his brother.

The music flowed through the mansion, its melancholic notes filling the silence. Subaru's eyes narrowed as he noticed Laito's head lowered, casting a shadow upon his face, making it difficult to discern his expression and mood. The eerie beauty of the music was abruptly interrupted by a ding sound, followed by a thud, shattering the harmonious atmosphere.

As if in response, the clouds parted, revealing the full moon in all its splendor. Subaru lowered his head, his palm outstretched, and there, entering his line of sight, was the unmistakable paw of a cat. His own paw. The curse that had been cast upon him and his brothers by their own father.

A ginger-colored cat jumped beside him, none other than Kou Mukami. The two cats locked eyes, a silent understanding passing between them—a mutual agreement not to provoke one another. This curse had been their father's punishment for their failure in the previous task, the Adam and Eve endeavor that ended in the tragic death of an innocent girl named Yui. The guilt they carried for her loss weighed heavily upon their hearts.

Subaru's eyes held a mix of emotions, a storm brewing within him. "Do you think he will ever stop? We are completely unaware of his true motives," he mused aloud.

Kou took a deep look at Subaru, his red eyes flashing briefly before he quietly turned his gaze towards the moon, lost in his own thoughts. Without waiting for a response, Subaru leaped down from the window ledge, his determination palpable in the air.

As Kou continued to stare at the moon, his expression inscrutable, a sense of foreboding settled over the mansion, as if the night itself held secrets that were yet to be revealed.

....

The old room of the mansion was like something out of a storybook, frozen in time and forgotten by the world. The white curtains on the windows were once delicate and pristine, but now they were covered in a thick layer of dust, as if they hadn't been touched in decades. The furniture was old and worn, the wood creaking and groaning with every movement, as if protesting against the passage of time.

This room once belonged to the first wife of the Vampire king Karl Heinz, Cordelia.

As the lightning flashed and the thunder roared, the room was briefly illuminated, revealing the silhouette of a young girl standing by the window. Her figure was frail and ghostly, like a wraith from the world beyond. But just as quickly as she appeared, she vanished, leaving nothing behind but a faint echo of her presence.

The room itself seemed to shudder at her passing, as if acknowledging her presence but also mourning her loss. The air was heavy with a sense of melancholy, as if the spirits of those who had once lived in the mansion were still lingering, trapped in this forgotten corner of the world.

For a moment, the room was silent, the only sound the patter of rain against the roof. But then the lightning flashed again, and the girl reappeared, her form wavering like a mirage in the storm. And as the thunder rolled, she began to speak, her voice faint and distant, like a whisper from another world.

"Who am I? Where do I come from? These questions have haunted me for far too long. But today, I take a step closer to the truth. This old mansion holds the answers I seek."

...

The Sakamaki mansion was perched on a hilltop, its gothic architecture looming over the surrounding landscape. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the front garden, when a mysterious figure appeared at the entrance. She was a young girl in a wheelchair, her face obscured by a hood. She moved forward with purpose, the wheels of her chair crunching on the gravel path as she approached the large oak doors.

The girl paused for a moment, as if gathering her courage, then pushed the doors open and entered the mansion. The inside was dark and shadowy, the only light coming from flickering candles that lined the walls. The air was thick with the musty smell of old furniture and books.

As she made her way deeper into the mansion, she heard the creaking of floorboards under her wheels. The girl was silent, her face still hidden, and her eyes darted around the room, taking in the strange surroundings. It was as if she was searching for something, or perhaps someone.

The girl in the wheelchair closed her eyes and flipped her hand, conjuring a small blue crystal ball in her palm. It glowed softly, emitting a faint blue light that filled the room. With a flick of her wrist, she sent the ball spinning into the air, where it hovered before her.

As the crystal ball began to pulse with an eerie light, the air in the room grew still, as if the very walls were holding their breath. The girl leaned forward, her eyes fixed on the ball, as if searching for something.

Suddenly, a burst of blue light shot out from the ball, illuminating the room and casting strange shadows on the walls. And then, as if by magic, a scene began to play out within the crystal.

It was a scene from the past, an event that had taken place in the mansion long ago. The figures within the crystal were ghostly and transparent, like phantoms from another world. But their voices were clear, echoing through the room as if they were speaking in the present.

The girl in the wheelchair watched, her eyes wide, as the scene unfolded. She saw the figures moving about the room, their faces filled with fear and uncertainty. They spoke of secrets and hidden knowledge, of things that were better left unsaid.

For a moment, she was lost in the vision before her, caught up in the mystery and magic of the moment. And then, as suddenly as it had appeared, the crystal ball flickered and went dark, leaving the girl alone in the old room once more.

But she knew that the mansion held many more secrets, and that she had only just begun to scratch the surface. With a sense of determination, she flipped her hand once more, summoning the crystal ball back into existence. She would find the answers she sought, no matter what it took.
