Chereads / Weisenburg / Chapter 18 - Christmas Incident Part 1

Chapter 18 - Christmas Incident Part 1

December 25th, 2030.

Beaumont High School.

4:37 p.m.

A rift would form above the school.

The people around the nearby park and those driving all gazed into the sky, taking photos and gossiping among themselves.

"...What is that?" "It's just like Fortnite!" "Do you think it's aliens...?"

...

Eternity's End would collapse onto itself, creating a hole between the real world and Limbo.

The place most traveled between the two dimensions was the location of this hole, the place that linked the two worlds.

That being Building X within Beaumont High School, Mr. Weisenburg's classroom.

...

4:49 p.m.

Someone would emerge from the rift.

They plummeted from the heavens and touched down onto the soil of the Earth.

A distant laugh and an echoing word filled the empty space.

"Steal."

...

4:50 p.m.

A screaming child, holding their lifeless parents in their arms.

A couple laying dead on the sidewalk, hand in hand.

Guts and intestines strewn across the sidewalks, cars stopped in the middle of the road with their interiors' painted red.

A homeless man and woman sharing in each other's warmth, now nothing but leaking bodies mixing fluids and organs.

A circle of people gathered around to give one another gifts for a "Secret Santa," but only a wreath of blood was left in their place.

Non-believers cried out to a God they didn't believe in.

Human lives were toyed with like a dog ripping up stuffed toys.

Approximately 6,432 people experienced death at this time.

...

4:51 p.m.

Someone else would emerge from the rift.

It was Weisenburg.

He gazed upon the scene solemnly.

This is unexpected. ARCHAIA is certainly weaker after what happened to her soul, maybe 1/10 of her true power.

In a previous timeline, this city would've been wiped off the map already.

He dissapeared from the sky and rushed through the remnants of destruction like a flash.

ARCHAIA's two abilities: "Claim" and "Steal."

"Claim" activates when a person is touched by ARCHAIA and she takes full control of their body.

"Steal" activates on anyone Akashic power-less within her radius. ARCHAIA takes full control of their soul and from there she absorbs it to strengthen herself.

Every life she took buffed her.

Discovering her amidst the rubble, Weisenburg clocked his fist back and punched, stopping an inch before hitting ARCHAIA.

She was blasted away, flying into the sky before a meteor shot from the earth and struck her even further into the stratosphere.

...

4:52 p.m.

Someone else would emerge from the rift.

It was Type-M.

She fell through the awning above the lunch area of Beaumont High School.

Landing onto the concrete, she desperately kicked at the ground and grasped at the air.

"JUAN!" She screamed out, tears streaming down her face.

"No... no... no... Please!"

Type-M had broken several bones from the fall, yet she ran as fast as her body permitted her.

She leapt atop the cafeteria building and impaled her chain into the H building adjacent.

Preparing to swing herself back into the rift, she caught the vision of someone from her future sight...

"Who-"

She was launched through the entire campus before she could react.

Her battered, unconscious body landed in the football field below, leaving a ravine of destruction in her path.

"Huh, how weak," A distinct German accent came from atop the cafeteria building.

...

Juan had failed.

His "Experiment B" disregarded the possibility of Godfried having other abilities on the same level as his reincarnation.

So he went along with "Experiment A," sacrificing himself and allowing Type-M to escape Limbo.

...

4:54 p.m.

Someone else would emerge from the rift.

It was Iris.

She plummeted from the sky, a mountain of corpses breaking her fall.

And as she emerged covered in blood and guts, the entire block shook around her.

ARCHAIA shot down the street into the sports park near the school.

Weisenburg quickly followed, slamming her deep into the crust of the Earth, kicking up a storm of debris and dust.

Yet as the destruction settled, ARCHAIA was nowhere to be seen.

Weisenburg quickly unleashed his power at 100 percent for an instant as an attempt to slow time down in the whole city...

But it was too late.

"Claim."

ARCHAIA took Iris in her arms.

Approximately 7,849 people experienced death at this time.

...

4:55 p.m.

Someone else would emerge from the rift.

It was Matt.

He tumbled down into an empty field near the warehouse a few miles away from the school.

Heaving his body upright, he was approached by a man.

It was Daniel.

"Another Asian, our kind has to stick together. Excuse me, but do you know what the cause of that rift in the sky is?"

Matt gazed at Daniel with his eyes glazed over.

Idly reached into his coat, Matt drew his pistol.

"Thunderer: Activate."

The nuclear shell transformed the empty field into a crater as the fiery coils of chaos spread omnidirectionally.

Daniel narrowly escaped its radius as a pack of glutinous beasts emerged from the smoke and ashes.

"Asura's Will: Judgement."

Swiping his hand downward, the creatures were pulverized instantly.

What are these things..? It's like they're made up of sin itself. I can kill them with no effort, Daniel thought.

From above, Matt plummeted with his arm shaped into a grotesque joining of jaws and skewered limbs.

"Gluttony..?" Daniel muttered.

Matt crashed into the hard earth which splintered into hundreds of tiny shards of rock.

Daniel rolled from underneath the attack and raised his hand, calling out...

"Consume."

...

An ability Matt had lost.

Daniel wielded it now that he understood Matt's sin...

Yet there was one thing that bothered Daniel.

With his Akashic power, there was usually a single vague reading of his enemy's sins.

But with Matt, there was two.

One reading being that of a person who sinned at a normal level, living a flawed yet quiet life.

The second reading was of a person who has committed so many atrocities that Daniel couldn't even begin to comprehend it.

This person isn't who he used to be.

...

It was like if Hitler were to be reborn in the modern day.
