Chapter 25 - Chapter 25 - Firebrand Steed

"Yes, have you heard about the draft, right?" Leo motioned for Edward to come closer to the fire horse as he spoke. "This is one of my companions, a Firebrand Steed."

Edward nodded, recalling Julius's words about last year's tournament, and summoned the information index for the monster. "Quite a good pet…" he said, looking over the imposing creature.

The horse's mane, made of fire, swayed gently in the wind, and its large hooves, bathed in flames, gave it an incredible beauty.

"It took me quite an effort to get him, but unfortunately, he is still in his maturity period," Leo said, his face twisting with sadness. "As you know, I will have to join the army, but I fear that taking him into battle with his current cultivation level may be dangerous."

"So you're using the Sun Bathing Weeds to force him to mature faster?" Edward's eyes darted between Leo and his pet. He wasn't sure if this was prejudicial for the Firebrand Steed, but it wasn't something he had the right to meddle in.

"We aren't making it mature faster. That would be a stupid idea…" The old man tending to the Firebrand Steed suddenly turned and gave Edward an annoyed look. "The Firebrand Steed is an extremely unique monster, as its spiritual energy is highly dependent on the purity of the elemental energy on its mane."

Edward meticulously studied the monster once again, this time being sure to observe all the small details. "Oh? So you're refining its energy?" Edward carefully approached the Firebrand Steed and focused on the work of the old man. "I'm not very knowledgeable about these things."

"Humph! Of course not!" The man sneered as he looked at Edward and returned to his job. "We are professionals; we don't need the advice of a layman."

"Cough, cough… Edward, this is Sir Kaith, one of the best trainers in the city and a teacher at the Monster Tamer Association School." Leo quickly intervened, as he knew how grumpy Kaith was. "I called him to help me prepare the medicine for my Firebrand Steed."

Edward gave a quick nod and continued to watch the old man work. "Monster Tamer Association School? What do they teach there?" He had already heard about the schools, but he initially thought that they were places for teaching kids.

"The school that he teaches at is the best one in the city! If you can enter there, you'll have the best Monster Trainers and Ranchers teach you!" Leo walked closer to Edward as he explained. "If you want, I can show you around later, but can we focus on the matter of the Sun Bathing Weed now?"

Edward pouted, wondering if he should reveal more about the Sun Bathing Weed or not. "Just tell me one thing, if you can't find any more Sun Bathing Weed, what would you do?"

Edward's question confused Leo, yet he answered nonetheless. "I'd have to look for it somewhere else, and that would take at least two to three weeks, and unfortunately, I don't have that much time."

So you would go into battle with your pet at this level?" Edward sighed. From his initial interactions with Leo, he seemed like a good man, but Edward still wasn't sure if he should sell more Sun Bathing Weeds.

Seeing how Leo couldn't answer Edward's question, Kaith finally spoke up. "Without another batch of Sun Bathing Weed, we will actually have to force the Firebrand Steed to mature faster…"

"Hm… That would be bad..." Edward scratched his head, as he finally made a decision. "I planned to get a fire-type monster as my second pet, so I saved a few stalks." He swore that this would be the last time that he would show the Sun Bathing Weeds to other people. "I can sell them to you, but of course, at the right price."

Leo's face lit up with happiness as he heard Edward's words. He always thought that the chances of the boy having more plants were low, and he also knew that the chances for the boy to sell them were even lower.

"Thank you! You can name your price!" Leo immediately grabbed Edward's hands and began to shake them. "And you don't have to worry about your second companion, we from the Fire Guild will surely help you find a suitable pet!"

Steffon watched as the two of them talked with an awkward smile. He was initially surprised that Edward had some stalks of Sun Bathing Weed left, but after some more thought, he felt that it was pretty obvious that the boy wouldn't sell everything that he found.

As Edward and Leo were finishing the details, the door to the training ground opened once again, and to Edward's surprise, he instantly recognized the two men who walked in.

"Stop bothering me! Can't you see that I'm busy?" Jovan let out a heavy sigh as he looked at the old trainer tending to the horse. "Sorry for the wait, Master. I had to deal with some matters from the guild."
