Eric entered the classroom for the first time, and his first thought was :*How excessively colorful. *
He was used to spending hours reading, surrounded by white and black walls made of Greek mythology literature books.
Instead, now in front of him were colorful decorations going from one wall to the other of the room as if it was a birthday.
The light yellow desks were grouped together in four, the plastic chairs were blue, and attached to their backrest, was a red bag.
The use of this last one was probably adding another color to the mix.
As if the colors weren't enough yet, on every desk were hundred colored pencils, and over the board were sheets about the alphabet, each differentiated with a colorful object that started with the same letter.
At this point, Eric was starting to go towards the exit to leave this colorful asylum.
But destiny wanted more from him, so at that moment when he was walking toward the door, he felt a little hand grabbing his arm.
''H-hi, what's your name? ''
The voice was feeble and seemed to be owned by a shy individual.
Sighing in his mind, losing some ability to see every second he passed in this psychedelic school, he turned around.
For a moment, he changed his mind.
What was right in front of him, could probably be described as the cute missing link between the human and the squirrel.
In fact, the girl in front of him had her head slightly declined, watching the ground.
Her hands covered her mouth as if hiding or stopping the words she had just said, to spread in the air.
The pale face was shapely oval, and her cheeks seemed soft as a marshmallow.
Finally, her eyes were green as a cold forest in the northern hemisphere, and her hair was dark brown as the bark of the trees of the same forest.
Watching her fidget out of curiosity and anxiety, he felt like laughing, but interested in her, he kept his reaction inside and answered politely.
''Hi, my name is Erechteus.
What about you?''
She felt embarrassed, but seeing his friendly attitude continued speaking.
''My name is Yuki. It means snow in Japanese. ''
At this point, Eric imagined her walking in a forest followed by some not-so-tall friends but again kept his thoughts to himself.
''Ah, it definitely suits you. Your skin is white as snow, and you seem as delicate as snow in your manners too.
My name, on the other hand, is after an ancient Greek king because my mother is quite into Greek culture.''
Yuki seemed very invested in the conversation, though a shallow one, and nodded as if telling him to continue.
''Your mother abandoned you, and now you try to pick up a girl who just arrived in the classroom?''
The voice felt angered, and the face from which it originated was red.
Then he grabbed the hand of Yuki and pulled her near him.
''Yuki, you don't have to stay with him. Talk with me!''
Uggh.
When he heard the pained sound from her mouth, Eric immediately divided the hand of that unknown bully from Yuki's arm.
''Can't you dose your force, you jealous troglodyte! ''
Seeing him protect her, Yuki instinctively went to hide behind his back, grabbing the end of his shirt with strength.
''T-trongo what? ''
He didn't know the meaning of that specific word, but from Eric's tone of voice and physical cues, the intention behind his words was clear.
Alex had found an enemy on his first day of primary school.
At that moment, the teacher entered the classroom after managing to console the over-emotional parents returning home with tears in their eyes.
In a second, her smile beamed.
''Good morning, everyone, my name is Janet Jackson, but you can call me Miss Janet, and from now on, I'll be your school teacher. ''
A second later, she inspected the faces of her new students with her eyes.
Among the many, one was red as a tomato, another shied away from her sight, watching toward the ground, and finally, one was observing her the same way a scientist to a guinea pig.
For a moment, she felt as if she was the student to be ranked by those discerning eyes.
Instinctively she looked away, slightly embarrassed.
The next moment she felt mentally confused because of what had just happened and decided to clear up this problem.
She started from the red pepper kid, probably the less complex to deal with.
''Hi, my name is Janet. May I know your name? ''
He was slightly nervous but answered:''My name...I'm Alex. ''
''Wow, Alex, what a great name! ''
Seeing him starting to smile and return to a more natural skin tone she finished.
*I was probably right. He feels quite simple. *
''I hope we get along well in the future, Alex!
Tell me, if you have something you don't understand or need help. ''
He nodded energetically while smiling.
*One problem down. ''
She felt like dancing out of happiness but hadn't finished yet.
This was her first day as a Grade teacher, but kids are still kids.
*It can't possibly be that difficult of a job. *
At least, that was what she thought up to now.
Then she turned her body towards Yuki, gradually exposing her face, from behind Eric's back.
''Hi, my name is Janet. May I...know your name? ''
She was almost left speechless when Yuki hid again behind Eric.
*They are already paired, uh?
She had difficulties finding any decent man, and this little flirtatious...kids, they're just kids! *
Her mind was shaken quite a bit from the precocity of their relationship, but it wasn't over.
''Good morning Ms. Janet. We already heard your name during your previous introduction. There's no need to repeat it. My name is Erechteus Blake. I hope we get along well.''
His tone felt professional, and she felt a little shiver go down her spine, but she had yet to know him. In fact, Eric continued.
''Finally, may I know what's so great about any name, for that matter, isn't the owner that, with his life, can give importance to his name? ''
*Oh shit! *
Janet's mind stopped working for a moment.
She never enjoyed complex, philosophic, questions that didn't have a clear answer during her high school and college days.
That was also one of the reasons she decided to teach in Grade school.
*1+1 is always equal to 2, right?... The cat is always on the table, right...Right? *
For a moment, she questioned her choices in life. She feared finding what she escaped from in her new workplace. Finally, she reset the system and resumed as if nothing ever happened.
''Wow Eric-Zeus, what a great name! ''
''You just butchered it. ''
His voice was emotionless, which worried Janet more than any possible anger.
''It isn't a compound name like Mary-Anne. The spelling is E-R-E-C-H-T-E-U-S, please get it right tomorrow, or you can call me Mr. Blake if it is too hard for you.
As if it wasn't enough having a βολβιτόομαι (stinking of cow shit) classmate, now I have a βοιωτός (dumb) teacher too. ''
His tone of voice was clearly disrespectful so...
In this way, Eric managed to go to detention on his first day of school.
After hearing what happened when she went to take him back home later in the day, Olive couldn't keep inside her laugh.
The day after, Ms.Janet started calling him Mr Blake.
Yuki kept staying close to him, and Alex did the opposite of that.
Finally, Eric was absentminded for the whole following day.
*My mother can laugh?!
So my life was all a lie up to now?! *
It was true, he learned a lot from his first day of school.
A.N.: A bit of the backstory is shown.
I had so much fun writing these last chapters as they were more light-hearted and comedic with respect to the usual style I use.
There were so much interesting parts that I was indecisive about the final Title.
I hope you continue enjoying the story!
